Story
This gal is what we call a FOR(friend of retrievers) and sadly her owner passed away.    She is still trying to figure out what to do now that she is not in the place she called home for the first half of her life.  She is in search of a new forever home and is great with other dogs.  She is housebroken and clearly enjoyed the indoor life of a home.  She knows basic commands and is also crate trained.  Although you may not be looking for a rottweiler,  please share this gentle soul with others to find her a new place to be loved. require an application, phone interview and home visit prior to meeting a dog and potential adoption. Our adoption fee for dogs under 9 months is $400, dogs between 9 months and 8 years is $350 and 8+ years is $125.. Please visit our website for more information. Thank you!

Story
Hi, I’m Brutus. Yes, I’m technically an adult dog… but spiritually I am a large enthusiastic puppy who hasn’t quite realized how big he is yet. My favorite hobbies include: Melting dramatically into my person for pets Supervising work calls by snoring in the background Learning new things so I can hear “good boy” (my favorite phrase) I’m already a pretty responsible dude. I’m crate trained, potty trained, and I sleep through the night like a champ. In the mornings I enjoy some training time and a nice walk before settling in for my important daytime job: Professional Napper During Zoom Meetings. I’m a very attentive boy and I really love my person. I’m the kind of dog who checks in, listens, and tries hard to get it right. I’m smart and eager to please, which means training is actually pretty fun for me. Now, I do get very excited about other dogs sometimes. My brain goes “FRIEND? PLAY? ZOOM?!” a little faster than my manners can keep up. The good news is I’m already learning how to handle my excitement and getting better every day with guidance. Because I’m a big, smart working-breed mix, I’ll do best with someone who enjoys continuing my training and giving me structure. Think of me as a dog who comes with extra potential and a big goofy personality. One important note: cats are not my thing. I saw one once and… let’s just say I had very strong feelings about it. So a cat-free home is required. If you’re looking for a loyal sidekick, a big cuddle bug, and a dog who wants to learn everything with you, I might be your guy. Also I will absolutely sit on your feet and lean my entire body weight into you for pets. You’ve been warned. — Brutus ##2681217##

Story
This is Kane. He had to flee NM after allegedly committing tax fraud, which is tough when you’re a 100-pound Rottweiler with no access to accounting software. He’s laying low now and rebuilding his life one chicken treat at a time. Kane is convinced he’s a lap dog. If you sit down, you’ve agreed to cuddles — it’s legally binding. He’s affectionate, smart, mildly dramatic, and very food motivated. He enjoys short, relaxed walks and exploring at his own pace. Recent X-rays showed severe arthritis in his front elbow from untreated elbow dysplasia (turns out crime doesn’t pay… especially for your joints). He’s currently comfortable, but an orthopedic consult would be a good idea, and he’ll likely need pain management as he ages. It doesn’t slow him down much — he just prefers the “retired mastermind” lifestyle over marathon training. If you’re looking for a big, loving, loyal companion who wants to be your shadow (and your lap dog), Kane is your guy. ##2666755##

Story
Hello, I'm Rumble! I'm a big lovable Rottie with a heart of gold for people!! According to my foster mom, I've got the heart of a big, playful puppy, and sometimes I forget that I'm a larger dog when I'm having a blast. So, if you have smaller dogs at home, we might just need a little adjustment period to get along famously. But here's the thing—when it comes to cats, I'm not the most purr-fect playmate, so if you've got a furry feline in the house, I might not be the ideal match. Now, if you believe you can provide me with a loving and caring home, please don't hesitate to apply today. And yes, I may be soaking up the Texas sunshine right now, but the good news is that I'm ready to hit the road and make my way to your heart and home. All it takes is a $230 transport fee, and I'll be on my way to becoming your loyal companion.Let's make it happen! Apply today, and let's embark on a journey of love and companionship together. Thank you for considering me for adoption! Online Application: https://service.sheltermanager.com/asmservice?account=ch2817&method=online_form_html&formid=41*Disclaimer: This pet is located in Texas. Once adoption is finalized the pet will be transported to the adopters location for an additional fee (currently $300).* The adoption fee helps to cover some of the cost of vetting the animal prior to adoption (spay/neuter, microchipping, and up to date vaccinations). Please fill out an adoption application to be considered for adoption. https://service.sheltermanager.com/asmservice?account=ch2817&method=online_form_html&formid=41

Story
Lady is a gentle, sensitive soul who is looking for a calm and patient home where she can truly blossom. She can be skittish at first — especially around men — and may bark when she feels unsure. Because of this, she’ll need extra time and understanding in a home where men are present. With consistency and kindness, she does begin to relax and build trust. Once Lady feels safe, her sweet personality shines. She is incredibly loving, enjoys being held, and happily melts into cuddles and pets. She forms strong bonds with her people and will be a deeply loyal companion. Lady is very food motivated, which is helpful for building confidence and continuing her training. She’s still gaining courage when it comes to walks and currently prefers the safety of home and yard time. She has started playing in the yard and is making small but meaningful progress every day. She will even go into her crate on her own with the door open to rest, showing she’s learning to feel secure in her space. Lady will thrive in a quiet home with consistent, patient people who can help her continue building confidence at her own pace. In return, she will offer unwavering love, loyalty, and the sweetest cuddles. Lady was rescued from a high kill shelter in Texas. She was at risk of euthanasia with her puppies due to overcrowding, but was able to be rescued in time.  Meet and greets are by appointment only.  An approved application is required to schedule a meeting. Check out our events page for upcoming open adoption events! We have no additional back story or update for this dog at this time.  When we do, it will be updated here.  This is all the information we have currently. Approved Applicants may make the adoption fee payment by clicking donate above.  Partial adoption fees will not hold a dog. If upon meeting the dog of your choosing at your scheduled pickup time you find that you aren't a good match, your deposit will be fully refunded. Adoption fees include vaccines up until time of adoption, microchip, spay/neuter and 1st 30 days of free pet insurance.  We are not affiliated with MetLife pet insurance. (you have to sign up for the insurance or it will not go into effect).  Adoption fees help cover the medical care of the animals while he or she waits for a new home, as well as food and transportation costs. These fees help to provide care for the other animals in the shelter or rescue group who may have medical bills that are much higher than any possible adoption fee. The money also acts as a donation to help support the organization as a whole, allowing the group to continue its efforts to rescue and rehome pets. The dogs in our care are fostered in Colorado, Texas, and New Mexico.  While all dogs are picked up during our scheduled times, sometimes transport dates change due to unforeseen circumstances.   More questions?  Read our FAQs here: https://4p4l.org/faqs/  Breed labels are a "best guess" by a shelter veterinarian and cannot be guaranteed.  ##2651369##
