Story
Smallz is an obedient, chill dog. He is house trained. We inherited him from a family member who passed away 3 years ago. We are sad to be looking for a new home for him. We have a new baby and he has become slightly anxious and acting a little out of the ordinary. We are nervous he will become aggressive towards the baby and we think this is what’s best.

Story
Hello! I’ve had Gummy since she was a puppy in 2015. She’s about 11 years old now and we’re looking for a place where she can spend her days with a house that can give her the love and attention she deserves. She loves to cuddle but also doesn’t mind laying down for most of the day. Gummy has spent all of her life surrounded by other dogs so she doesn’t like being left alone for too long. Great dog if you’re looking for an easygoing companion

Story
* To be considered for a meet/adoption, please read the full biography to see whether they may be a good fit for your home, then submit an online application at www.dpsrescue.org.Adoption fee: $800 The Verdict Is In: Jury Is Guilty of Being Irresistible   Jury is one of three Trial puppies born on June 10. They are now 9 weeks old. Their mom is a Shih Tzu and dad is a mystery. When their original owner realized there were simply too many dogs in the home, she made the responsible decision to surrender the puppies to DPS Rescue so we could find each of them a wonderful family. Now Jury is ready to present her case—and the evidence overwhelmingly proves that she is easygoing, affectionate, smart, silly, and extraordinarily adorable.   A Social Butterfly With a Silly Side   Jury LOVES people. She happily follows her foster family around, always interested in what everyone is doing and eager to be part of the action. She is confident and outgoing rather than shy or timid, greeting life with a happy smile and plenty of enthusiasm. This funny little girl will grab a stuffed toy, race off for a round of zoomies, and spring right back when called. When she gets especially excited to see her people, she jumps into the air and practically twirls with joy. She is energetic, playful, and endlessly entertaining—but once the fun is over, she is equally happy curling up in a lap for some cuddles.   Friends, Toys, and Puppy Adventures   Stuffed toys rank very highly on Jury’s list of favorite things, but she is also delighted by her medium-sized resident Doodle foster sibling. She is curious and interested while remaining respectful, making her a promising candidate for a home with another friendly dog. She sometimes joins in with a bark when the resident dog starts barking, apparently assuming that whatever he has to say must be worth repeating.   Jury has also demonstrated a surprisingly reliable recall for such a young puppy. Even in the middle of an exciting zoomie session, she comes springing back when her foster calls her. She is bright, engaged, and eager to learn—an excellent combination for continued puppy training.   Potty-Training Prodigy   For a puppy this young, Jury is doing exceptionally well with potty training. She uses potty pads reliably, will also pee outside, and has already chosen a favorite outdoor bathroom spot. She is quickly learning the “go potty” command and will make little noises around 6:30 a.m. when she needs to go outside. Thanks to her excellent potty-pad habits, her family does not necessarily have to race out of bed immediately.   Jury is also comfortable when left home alone in an appropriate puppy setup and settles without difficulty.   The Perfect Home   Jury would thrive with a family excited to engage with a social, intelligent puppy. She would love people who will include her in daily life, play with her, continue her training, and appreciate both her energetic antics and affectionate cuddles. As a young puppy, she will need a family prepared for all the usual puppyhood adventures, including continued housetraining, socialization, teething, and learning good manners.   The Trial puppies will each be adopted separately so they can bond with their new families and grow into confident, well-adjusted adult dogs.   Final Ruling   Jury is easygoing, happy, clever, cuddly, and hilariously entertaining. She is also so adorable that her future family should be prepared to answer questions from admirers everywhere they go. After reviewing all the evidence, we find Jury guilty on every count: excessive cuteness, possession of irresistible puppy charm, and stealing hearts without remorse. August 22, 2026, 2:00 pm

Story
* To be considered for a meet/adoption, please read the full biography to see whether they may be a good fit for your home, then submit an online application at www.dpsrescue.org.* This dog will be at the Palo Alto Pet Food Express on Saturday, August 22nd from 12–3 PM (unless adopted prior to the event). All DPS Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, flea/tick treated, and microchipped prior to adoption.   Adoption fee: $800 The Verdict Is In!   Verdict is one of three Trial puppies born on June 10 to a Shih Tzu mom. They are now 9 weeks old. When their original owner realized there were too many dogs in the home, she made the responsible decision to surrender the puppies to DPS Rescue so we could find each of them a wonderful family. Verdict has been fun, fearless, and full of personality since the moment she arrived—and the evidence confirms that she is one unforgettable puppy.   Small Puppy, Big Personality   Verdict is an explorer at heart. She approaches each day as though there may be a new case waiting to be investigated in the backyard, and she intends to examine every inch of it. Confident and curious, she is always ready for her next adventure and has no trouble keeping up with the “big dogs”—who are actually her foster family’s small resident dogs.   She loves racing around outside, wrestling with her canine friends, and discovering whatever the backyard has to offer. One of her funniest moves is flopping dramatically onto her back while playing with the other dogs. Whether it is an invitation to keep playing or simply an advanced comedy technique remains under investigation.   Verdict is more independent than her sister Bailiff, but she still loves people, attention, and plenty of pets. She is bold without being too busy for affection—a perfect combination of adventurous sidekick and lovable puppy.   A Day in the Life   Verdict wakes around 7:30 a.m. and immediately heads outside for potty time. Breakfast and play follow, and then she returns to her pen for a couple of hours of napping. The rest of the day is a highly organized rotation of potty breaks, outdoor exploration, meals, playtime with the resident dogs, and more naps.   She currently has access to food throughout the day and enjoys playing with two Chihuahua mixes as well as a Shih Tzu. Verdict is fearless about approaching other dogs and loves being part of the action. At the end of her busy day, she cuddles up in the crate with her sister and goes to sleep.   Smart, Spunky, and Quick to Learn   Verdict is a certified smarty-pants who catches on quickly. She and Bailiff are doing exceptionally well with potty training and understand the cue “Go make a pee pee.” Verdict responds right away, has very few accidents, and prefers to keep her x-pen clean.   Like any young puppy, she is teething and may gently chew or sample the occasional backyard stick. She can also bark from time to time, although she is not especially vocal when people visit.   Verdict currently cries when first left in her x-pen or crate, so her new family should continue patiently teaching her that short periods alone are safe and temporary.   Coat and Care   Verdict appears to have a low-shedding coat. Depending on how her adult coat develops, she may need regular brushing and professional grooming to keep her comfortable and looking her best.   The Perfect Home   Verdict would thrive with a family that appreciates a confident puppy with a spunky sense of adventure. She would love people who will play with her, continue her training, and include her in all sorts of fun.   She could do very well with friendly dogs and may also be a good match for children who understand how to interact appropriately with a young puppy.   Final Ruling   Bold, clever, playful, and endlessly entertaining, Verdict is the kind of puppy who will keep her family laughing and wondering what she will do next. She is always game for an adventure and never short on surprises. After reviewing all available evidence, the decision is unanimous: Verdict is guilty of being far too cute, and her sentence is a lifetime of love. August 22, 2026, 2:00 pm

Adoption fee: $800 Maverick: Your Loyal Wingman   Maverick is a 2–3 year old, 18 lb Shih Tzu with a fabulous underbite, a freshly trimmed non-shedding coat, and all the charm needed to fly straight into your heart. This happy-go-lucky guy came to DPS from the shelter and has quickly proven himself to be a sweet, affectionate, and remarkably easygoing companion. Maverick’s mission is simple: find his place in the family, make everyone smile, and never miss out on the action.   Ready for Takeoff   Maverick starts his day between 7:30 and 8:30 a.m. with breakfast, then spends his time playing, napping, exploring outside, and keeping tabs on his foster family. Dinner is served around 5 p.m., and Maverick is wonderfully adaptable about everything in between.   He is equally happy joining a play session, curling up for a nap, or settling onto a welcoming lap for some affection. He matches the energy of the household beautifully—ready for fun when something is happening but perfectly content to lounge when the day slows down.   At night, Maverick sleeps either in bed with his foster brother or in the living room. He slept quietly in a crate on his first night, but once he realized another dog was roaming freely, his sense of fairness kicked in. Maverick does not want to be benched while the rest of the team is on the field! He may be able to adjust to crating with consistent practice, particularly in a home where another dog is not visibly enjoying privileges he has been denied.   Brothers from Another Mother   Maverick currently lives with Mocha, a French Bulldog who immediately became his foster brother, best friend, and personal role model. The two were introduced during a walk on neutral ground before entering the house together, and their friendship took off from there.   Maverick likes to stay close to Mocha, following his lead and trying to do everything he does. They play together, nap together, explore outside together, and generally operate as a two-dog flight crew. Maverick seems genuinely eager to fit in and be a good member of the family. He would likely enjoy having a friendly, appropriately matched canine companion in his forever home, although he could also thrive as the center of attention with people who include him in their daily lives.   He is friendly and enthusiastic when meeting other dogs. Occasionally, his enthusiasm can become a little too personal, especially with dogs who are hesitant to set boundaries. A confident, tolerant canine companion may be a better match than a nervous or easily overwhelmed dog.   Sweet, Social, and Seriously Charming   Maverick is an exceptionally sweet and respectful little dog. He follows his people from room to room, happily accepts lap time and cuddles, and wants to feel like a full-fledged member of the family. His cheerful expression and signature underbite make him nearly impossible to resist.   He is alert and will bark if he believes someone is outside or there is something his family should know about, but he is otherwise a quiet companion. He is not a chewer or digger, and he has shown no aggression. When Mocha once corrected him for approaching his food, Maverick immediately backed away and respected the boundary.    House Manners and Walking   Maverick is housetrained and figured out the doggy door on his very first day. He has otherwise done well, though the presence of visiting dogs can trigger some territorial marking.  On walks, Maverick is friendly and does well on leash. He has not shown reactivity toward dogs or people.   Because someone has always been home during his foster stay, Maverick’s comfort with being left alone has not yet been fully tested. He appears to take confidence from having another dog nearby, and his adopters should plan to help him adjust gradually to a new routine.   Maverick is affectionate, adaptable, playful, respectful, and genuinely eager to belong. Whether you are looking for a lap dog, a canine playmate, a walking companion, or a cheerful little shadow with an unforgettable smile, Maverick is ready to become your loyal wingman. August 22, 2026, 2:00 pm
