Please contact Chandler Jaffe (chandler.jaffe@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.baby girl seeking her family! LUCINDA NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!!   Name:   Lucinda       Best Guess for Breed:   Shih tzu and Jack Russell terrier   Best Guess for Age:   14 weeks as of 1/28/26         SEX:   Female   Estimated Weight (puppies' weights change quickly!):   6 lbs as of 1/28/26   Gets Along With:        Most puppies are in the prime of their socialization window and will do well with other dogs, cats and kids so long as they receive patience and proper training.   Currently Living at:   South Carolina shelter; needs a foster or forever home in the DC area to get up here.    Special Adoption Considerations:       Puppies under 6 months of age need to have multiple potty breaks/exercise throughout the day. Potential adopters with a standard 8-hour workday must be willing to make arrangements to meet the needs of their puppy.  Lucinda is Looking For:  Hiya! I'm Lucinda! I'm ready to pack my bags and find my very own forever home! I'm looking for a home that will let me play with toys and get my puppy zoomies out and give me snuggles in between playtimes. When I'm a little older, I can't wait to explore my new neighborhood on lots of walks, and I'd really like to make a bunch of doggie friends along the way. Oh, and I should probably take a puppy obedience class or two so I can show you how smart I am.What do you say? Do you have room in your home and your heart for me? What My Foster Says About Me: We will update this once she has spent time in foster care. Puppy Vetting Requirements:        Lucky Puppies have had their age appropriate vaccines, but may not yet be “fully” vaccinated. It is the adopter’s responsibility to ensure that the remaining puppy vaccines are given at the appropriate time. Please also keep in mind that, until your puppy is fully vaccinated, they are at greater risk for illness than an adult dog.      Due to this puppy’s young age, she/he has not yet been spayed or neutered.  As part of the adoption contract, it will be your responsibility, as the adopter, to ensure that this is done no later than April 20, 2026. There are NO EXCEPTIONS and NO EXTENSIONS to this date. A non-refundable spay/neuter deposit will be collected if you would like Lucky Dog to pay for this animal to be spayed/neutered at one of our low cost partner vets.   Your new puppy will need to work on their house training and will also need to go to obedience school so they can grow into a well-socialized dog!  TO ADOPT:       The adoption fee for this puppy is $485, which includes the cost of routine vetting and transport from the shelter.    If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online bit.ly/adoptaluckydog   Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption. Story
'Nauti' Girl!MEET VALENCIA!   This little lady’s world was rocked earlier in December when her owner was deported and she found herself scared and alone in the shelter. The outpouring of empathy and support for her and her situation was heartwarming, and she quickly found her way into a very experienced foster home with four other small dogs (some of whom had had similar, stressful backgrounds) and multiple cats. There she has had the time to settle, destress and come to life again. She is now back to what we believe is her true-self; a playful little gal who will roll over for tummy rubs for her (adult) human and play with her toys to entertain herself. Her favorite is stealing a nautical rope ball her foster mom has on a table, thus “Nauti” girl. Ha!   Valencia is bi-lingual having come to Tara’s House familiar with basic commands in Spanish and is picking up their English translations (Sit and Down, for instance). She enjoys hanging out with and playing with her foster-siblings, both canine and feline varieties. She sleeps through the night and has gone into an open crate to rest on her own several times (although she is not crated otherwise.)     Valencia has had some stress in her life and it sometimes manifests in her being fearful of new people (or even people who aren’t her main care-giver). She should not go to a home with children (most small dogs shouldn’t) and would do best in a home that can give her consistency as well as love. We think she would do best with another small dog in the home, as she could use the confidence that a canine relationship can bring and she seems to genuinely like other dogs. She is fearful at times so needs a strong leader that can show her that her human has things under control.   Valencia’s adoption donation fee is $450, which includes spay/neuter, routine vetting and a microchip. You can apply for her by filling out our online application, which is found on our website www.tarashouse.org.  Please email us at info@tarashouse.net with any questions.January 3, 2026, 1:16 pm

Story
Current Location: Hanover, PA Meet Squash: A Tiny Sweetheart Who Needs Your Patient Love At just 12 pounds and 7 months old, this little Shih Tzu mix is still very much a puppy navigating a big, sometimes overwhelming world. Squash is sweet, gentle, and curious, with a heart full of love for the people he trusts. Once he's comfortable with you, he loves to be held, stay near his person, and show you just how affectionate he can be. Squash has the energy you'd expect from a young puppy. He's extremely energetic and requires frequent activity, mental stimulation, and structured outlets to keep him happy and balanced. He loves to chew on his toys and toy bones, and a fenced yard would be wonderful for letting him run and burn off that puppy energy, though it's not a requirement. Here's what makes Squash special and what he needs: he's a little shy and nervous until he feels comfortable. New sounds, people, and experiences can feel scary to this tiny guy, and he needs a patient family who will support him as he learns that the world isn't meant to be frightening. He's working on meeting new people and can be wary at first, but he's always friendly. He just needs time and gentle encouragement. Squash is great at meeting new dogs and is very responsive to praise and food motivation with those he's comfortable with. Because of his nervousness and the fact that he's still learning about the world, a home without younger kids may be best. We're not sure how he'd react to children sharing his toys or moving unpredictably around him. This sweet boy needs someone who understands that beneath his concerns is a gentle soul who just wants to feel safe and loved. With patience, consistency, and compassion, Squash will blossom into the confident, affectionate companion he's meant to be. If you have the time and heart to help this tiny treasure find his courage, Squash is ready to trust you with his whole heart.

Story
Certified Lap Monsters Warning: Extreme cuteness ahead. These Shih Tzu–Yorkie puppies are tiny balls of fluff with BIG cuddle energy. Soft? ✅ Fluffy? ✅ Totally obsessed with their people? Absolutely. They love following their humans around like little shadows and are happiest when they can plop themselves right into your lap (personal space not included). Whether it’s cuddle time, nap time, or “just because” time, these pups are always ready to snuggle. If you’re looking for a sweet, silly, lap‑loving best friend, congratulations—you just found them. I'm searching for... * someone who won't leave me home alone for more than 4 hrs, at least not until I am older. The older I am the more I can stay home alone. I just don't want you to get mad at me if I have accidents or chew things I'm not supposed to when you leave me for too long. I'm a puppy, so I get bored quick and when I'm bored I could get in trouble. * I am looking for my forever home, not my for right now home. So as I get bigger I need someone to teach me how to be the best dog I can be. I am young and still learning. You may want to teach me some new tricks like sit, stay, etc. Professional training will help me bond with you. That sounds like fun! * I saved the most important for last. I am hoping my new mom or dad will snuggle with me, play with me and love me forever and ever! Current location: Woodbridge, VA Available to go home on 2/1/26
