Gertie Shihtzu mix Female Black, White, and Grey 8/10 years old 9 lbs Meet Gertie! Gertie is a gentle, loving senior pup who’s looking for a peaceful home to enjoy her golden years. Though her eyesight and hearing are limited, she gets around well and enjoys naps, sunshine, and sniffing around the yard. She’s as quiet as can be, no barking, just the occasional sneeze, and loves spending time near her person, especially when it’s mealtime! Gertie needs soft food since she has only a few teeth left, she has full dental with extractions, as well as daily eye drops and supplements to keep her comfortable. She isn’t fully house-trained but does well with regular outdoor breaks or a diaper indoors. She’s made wonderful progress in foster care and has so much love to give. NO LONGER ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS! Meet Sully! This adorable little fluffball was found running as a stray in an area where we’ve rescued two other Shih Tzu mixes who look just like him! His finder reached out for help, and thankfully, we had a foster ready to bring him safely into rescue. Sully is currently living with Johanna, her four dogs, and two cats. He may be the smallest in the pack, but he’s not shy about speaking up when another dog gets too far into his personal space. He’s playful, social, and just figuring out his boundaries. He’s also cat-friendly and kid-tested (8 years old). Sully has no issues being handled or picked up. He’s crate-trained, housetrained, has solid leash skills, and even knows “sit,” so he was clearly someone’s pet at some point. He LOVES his humans and is a total lap dog—his favorite place is curled up getting pets from his foster mom. Johanna describes Sully as a fun, upbeat pup who gets excited for any adventure. He rides great in the car and is ready to be your little sidekick. Sully is getting groomed today and will be heading to the DC metro area on 12/6. Apply today to welcome him home! Bubbles and her sister and brother, Buttercup and Brodie were surrendered to a kill shelter because their owners just had too many and couldn’t find homes on their own. Their mom is a long-haired Chihuahua and their daddy is a Shih Tzu and they were born on February 2nd this year so they are 8 months old. Bubbles has been spayed, is up-to-date on vaccines and heartworm negative. She’s also microchipped. She weighs just under 9 pounds and is probably full grown now. Bubbles is great at the Vet and The Groomer and loves riding in the car. She needs a little practice on the leash and she’s making great progress on house training. Although and three pups are extremely sweet, Bubbles is a most friendly and a super snuggler! She plays great with her brother and sister and we feel like she would be fine with other dogs after getting to know them. She would do well with older children and we have not had her around cats but we feel like she would be fine with proper introduction. Meet Hip Hop – The Sweetest Senior Shih Tzu Around! Hip Hop is a Shih Tzu weighing about 10 lbs, and she’s ready to find her forever family! This little lady has come a long way—from being found roaming the streets and ending up in a crowded shelter, to now living her best life in a loving foster home. When she first arrived, Hip Hop was matted and had some hair loss from a flea allergy, but with a little TLC (and some cozy sweaters), she’s blossomed into the adorable, happy pup she was always meant to be. Hip Hop is the definition of an easygoing companion. She loves lounging around the house and soaking up the comforts of home, but she also enjoys short backyard adventures with her dog friends. She’s been around dogs of all shapes and sizes—from a calm 5-year-old Jack Russell mix to an energetic 8-month-old Great Pyrenees mix—and she gets along with everyone. She’s even polite with cats!
