Please contact Destiny Sibert (DestinyS@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.small sweetie seeking fresh start and love! BOBBIE NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!!   Come meet Bobbie and other great adoptable dogs this Sunday (Feb. 8th) from 12-3 pm at the PetSmart in Rockville (5154 Nicholson Ln, Kensington, MD 20895)!     Name:  Bobbie        Best Guess for Breed:  Shih tzu mix Best Guess for Age:  1 year as of February 2026       SEX:  Male   Approximate Weight:  7 lbs     Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen him with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters!   Currently Living at:  Texas shelter; arriving in the DC area on Sunday 2/1/26   About Bobbie: Bobbie is settling into foster life with an older resident dog and doing a great job learning the ropes. He can be a little shy with new people and dogs at first, but don’t let that fool you—he warms up quickly and is very friendly once he feels safe. Outdoors is where Bobbie really shines: he’s confident, curious, and loves exploring, and he’ll happily alert you if he hears someone or something near the front door.   This boy has a great appetite (slow feeder bowls are his friend!) and a nice balance of energy and chill. He enjoys being active and playful, but he’s also learning to entertain himself or take a nap when his humans are busy. Bobbie truly loves human time and thrives on affection and connection. As a young pup, Bobbie is doing well with crate time overnight and during short outings. He can get a bit anxious when everyone leaves and may protest at first, but he settles down after a while. He’s still working on potty training and is making progress with a consistent schedule and clear cues for going outside. If you’re looking for a loving, playful companion who’s eager to learn and grow with you, Bobbie might just be your perfect match Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.    TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this dog is $460, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations and spay/neuter. Story
Meet Ember! This heartthrob has a goofy smile, the manners of a gentleman, and a heart of gold. This fragile soul spent WEEKS in a crowded shelter after being found wandering alone as a stray. The second he stepped through our door, he completely lit up. Within hours, he was following his foster like a tiny flickering shadow ~ smiling, tail wagging, tongue peeking out when he woke from naps. His foster mom says he's so well-behaved and so happy to finally be included in a family. Ember's ideal home has people who are around most of the time, want to take him on plenty of walks and fun adventures, and love to cuddle. He wants to spend most of his day on the couch with his humans, supervising any kitchen activities, and snacking on all the treats. When Ember wakes up from naps, his little tongue sticks out, like it's been searching for snacks in his sleep. As if that weren't cute enough, one ear tends to flip back in his sleep so he wakes up with lopsided ears to match his lopsided grin. Ember loves going for leash walks (in nice weather only - he's not big on snow and we don't blame him one bit!) and is equally happy to ride along in the car. He is housetrained and generally sleeps through the night. While his vision and hearing aren't perfect, he still bounds up and down stairs and can even jump up onto the couch. He doesn't need a ton of exercise, but he absoutely needs a ton of snuggles! After everything he’s been through, Ember still believes people will choose him. He's so ready to finally have someone to give all of his love to - could it be you? Ember is approximately 12 years old and 16 lbs. Fostered in Germantown, MD Please apply at MirisHaven.org

Story
'Nauti' Girl!MEET VALENCIA!   This little lady’s world was rocked earlier in December when her owner was deported and she found herself scared and alone in the shelter. The outpouring of empathy and support for her and her situation was heartwarming, and she quickly found her way into a very experienced foster home with four other small dogs (some of whom had had similar, stressful backgrounds) and multiple cats. There she has had the time to settle, destress and come to life again. She is now back to what we believe is her true-self; a playful little gal who will roll over for tummy rubs for her (adult) human and play with her toys to entertain herself. Her favorite is stealing a nautical rope ball her foster mom has on a table, thus “Nauti” girl. Ha!   Valencia is bi-lingual having come to Tara’s House familiar with basic commands in Spanish and is picking up their English translations (Sit and Down, for instance). She enjoys hanging out with and playing with her foster-siblings, both canine and feline varieties. She sleeps through the night and has gone into an open crate to rest on her own several times (although she is not crated otherwise.)     Valencia has had some stress in her life and it sometimes manifests in her being fearful of new people (or even people who aren’t her main care-giver). She should not go to a home with children (most small dogs shouldn’t) and would do best in a home that can give her consistency as well as love. We think she would do best with another small dog in the home, as she could use the confidence that a canine relationship can bring and she seems to genuinely like other dogs. She is fearful at times so needs a strong leader that can show her that her human has things under control.   Valencia’s adoption donation fee is $450, which includes spay/neuter, routine vetting and a microchip. You can apply for her by filling out our online application, which is found on our website www.tarashouse.org.  Please email us at info@tarashouse.net with any questions.January 3, 2026, 1:16 pm

Story
Meet Charlie. This gorgeous boy with the striking marbled coat came from a breeder in a small town outside Charlotte, NC. Charlie is a double merle, which occurs when two merle-patterned dogs are bred together and can result in vision loss. Because of his limited sight, the breeder was unable to sell him and listed him on a Facebook rehoming page. Thankfully, one of our local volunteers, Dina, saw the post and stepped in to get Charlie safely into rescue. Charlie has been in Dina’s home for the past two months and is fully integrated into her pack of 5 pups. He’s best paired with a playful dog his size or larger, because this young boy loves to wrestle and play. While he is technically blind, Dina believes he can see shapes and shadows, and his limited vision doesn’t slow him down one bit. It’s the only life he’s ever known, and he fully embraces it. Dina has been amazed by how adaptable Charlie is, both at home and out on walks. Within just a week, he learned to climb her non-carpeted stairs (she still carries him down to be safe!). He navigates the world using his strong sense of smell and hearing and lives life like any other happy, confident dog. He's mostly potty-trained but needs regular breaks and has been exposed to the crate for short periods of time. Dina shared this update: “Charlie is a snuggly pup, and Shih Tzus are very social dogs. He loves to bury his nose near your cheek and sleeps well through the night, cuddling in bed with me. He takes after the Shih Tzu personality more than the poodle. He loves being picked up, too. When you pick him up, he tilts his head back like Stevie Wonder. He’s playful but not overly energetic and loves all kinds of toys, especially ones that make noise when they hit the floor, like squeaks, rattles, or crunchy plastic bottle sounds. That helps him find them quickly. He has moderate energy. He plays with my dog Bentley or enjoys zoomies in an open grassy area. He also keeps himself busy with a Benebone, bully stick, or lick mat, then happily settles on the couch or floor.” Charlie’s ideal home would include a fenced yard for zoomies and another playful canine companion. Like any dog, he’ll need a gradual introduction to a new home—and with limited vision, taking things a bit slower is important. Starting with one safe room and gradually expanding his access helps him learn his surroundings. When introducing other pets, moving slowly and using jingling tags can help Charlie hear them approaching and feel more comfortable initiating interactions. He’s also best walked on a short leash for added guidance and security. Charlie is joyful, fearless, and ready for a home that will  Apply today!
