Story
Hi, I'm Smore, a 4-year-old chocolate Beagle with a sweet disposition and a nose for adventure! 🐕 I'm friendly with other dogs, so I'd love a home where I can have canine companions to play with. I'm not yet spayed, but that's something your vet can help with as part of settling into your family. With my compact size and lovable nature, I'm ready to bring joy and beagle charm into your life. Come meet me and let's sniff out a wonderful future together! 🐾 This dog tested positive for heartworm disease before arriving to the rescue. Heartworm disease is transmitted to a dog through a bite from an infected mosquito producing a positive test in six months. OPH will treat the dog and provide two weeks of recovery time prior to adoption. Potential adopters will receive detailed information on the disease and their role in completing the recovery process from OPH’s heartworm coordinator. With monthly preventatives, the disease is completely preventable. Read about heartworm disease here: Read more about heartworm disease at https://www.heartwormsociety.org/pet-owner-resources/heartworm-basics

Story
Location: Centreville, VA Meet Wally! 🐾 This lovable 4-month-old boy is a bundle of puppy sweetness, curiosity, and just a little bit of mischief! ❤️ He bonds deeply with his people and loves showing affection to the person caring for him. He’s a little shy with strangers at first, but give him a few minutes and he’s starting to realize that new people can be friends, too! This smart boy has already learned Sit and Paw and is eager to learn more. He’s curious about absolutely everything—he loves sniffing on walks, chasing squirrels, running, trying to climb trees, and munching on grass! 😂 He’s also making great progress with potty training and is quickly learning his routine. At night, he’s an impressive sleeper, usually snoozing for about 9 hours straight. He loves chew toys and carrots and enjoys three meals a day. He gets very excited around other dogs, so his foster family is still learning about his play style and taking introductions slowly. This sweet, smart, adventurous boy is ready to find a family who will give him the love, patience, training, and adventures every puppy deserves. 💕

Story
Current Location: Woodbridge, VA Meet Minnie Minnie is a one year old, 27 pound Terrier mix who is still unfolding, and what is emerging with every passing day is something genuinely sweet and worth waiting for. She is loving and affectionate with the people she trusts and has a playful side that comes out beautifully around other dogs and with toys when she feels comfortable and safe. She is still finding her footing in the wider world though, and she is honest about it in the most endearing way. New people, and particularly new men, can cause her to hang back and observe from a safe distance rather than rushing in. She is not aggressive in the slightest, just careful, watching quietly and making sure things feel right before she decides to engage. She is the kind of girl who needs to write her own timeline and she deserves a home that respects that. She is a work in progress with house training and is getting better every day with patience and consistency. She is not a fan of going into her crate but once she is settled in she does just fine, which tells you that her hesitations are mostly about the unknown and that once something becomes familiar she handles it with grace. Minnie needs a calm and patient adopter who understands that some of the best things take a little time. She is not the finished product yet. She is the in between, the becoming, the slow and steady reveal of a dog who is going to be absolutely wonderful when she fully arrives. The person who gives her that space is going to feel very lucky indeed.

Story
This handsome fellow is good with people, but he has never learned how to play with other dogs. He’s walking well on a harness and leash. He loves going on walks (where he won't encounter other dogs) and he’s shown that he enjoys going for a swim in the water. Farley loves getting one-on-one attention. Due to his history (see below), he will never be a dog that can go to a dog park, but he would love a fenced backyard to run and play in. If you’d like to have a single dog to cuddle and have no cats in your home, Farley would be a perfect buddy for you. Farley spent nearly all his life at the end of a chain. He was attacked by an animal, perhaps a dog, and received terrible injuries on his neck. Due to his history, Farley is reactive around other dogs while on a leash. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO MEET FARLEY, PLEASE SUBMIT A MYM FORM AND WE WILL ARRANGE A SPECIAL MEETING. FARLEY DOES NOT COME TO REGULAR ADOPTIONS. Gender:  Neutered Male DOB: Approx. 1/23/2019 Current size; 31 pounds   PLEASE NOTE:  we only adopt to residents of the DC metro area, which includes DC, Prince Georges and Montgomery Counties in MD, and Arlington, Fairfax, Prince William, and Loudoun Counties in VA. Story
Penny has come a  long way in the short time we've had her. Initially she was very timid, but now she has become more curious. Penny has realized that people mean good things--treats and pets. She is friendly and appears to be crate-trained. We suspect she may be a little timid initially in a new home, but she will warm up quickly when she feels safe.  Penny came to us with her sister, Mouse, as well as with Mindy, who we believe is her mother. They all came from southwestern Virginia. Gender: Spayed Female Current Size: 16 pounds Breed: Beagle (?) Mix Approximate DOB: 2/1/2024  PLEASE NOTE:  we only adopt to residents of the DC metro area, which includes DC, Prince Georges and Montgomery Counties in MD, and Arlington, Fairfax, Prince William, and Loudoun Counties in VA. Visit our event page (https://www.lostdogrescue.org/events/) to see which one—event listings are usually updated on Fridays with attending dogs. Meet Pinky — a playful, affectionate, and smart girl who is truly a total catch! This sweet pup may be a little unsure in busy outside environments at first, but inside the home (or with dog friends), her confident, goofy, loving personality shines through. Pinky is the definition of easy living at home: she’s potty trained, crate trained, sleeps through the night, and loves a good balance of playtime and downtime. She’s just as happy chewing on a bone or playing with toys as she is curling up nearby for belly rubs and snuggles. This social girl is also fantastic with other dogs and thrives in playgroup, where she shows off her great communication skills and playful energy. A dog buddy would be a huge bonus for her as she continues building confidence in new environments. Food-motivated, eager to please, and super smart, Pinky makes any desired training fun and rewarding. She enjoys enrichment, puzzle toys, and games, and she’s already got a great foundation with leash skills and checking in with her person on walks! Pinky is looking for a home that will give her patience, structure, and plenty of love as she continues to blossom. In return, she’ll give you a hilarious, loyal, affectionate best friend who’s always ready to play, learn, and snuggle.
