Adoption Fee Covered + Free Training! Thanks to a generous supporter, this pet's adoption fee is fully covered — and OPH is including six virtual training sessions with a certified trainer in the first 60 days to help you start off strong together! Meet Nora – The Pocket-Sized Cuddlebug with a Gentle Spirit Currently fostered in Silver Spring, MD With her beautiful chocolate and white coat, long silky ears, and soft eyes that speak volumes, Nora is the very picture of understated elegance. But don’t let her quiet arrival fool you - this sweet, shy girl is on a journey of transformation, and with the right person by her side, she’s bound to bloom. Nora is wary of men so would flourish in an ALL-FEMALE household. Personality & Energy - Timid but loving – Nora is quite shy at first, as well as cautious around new situations and strangers. Once she warms up - she bonds very quickly, shows how big her heart is, and follows you everywhere! - Calm demeanor – She prefers short gentle activity or lounging close to her person. - Affectionate and clingy – She bonds deeply and wants nothing more than to be by your side (or on your lap if you let her!). Home Life & Compatibility - House-trained – Nora is doing great with regularly scheduled potty breaks and has a natural preference to potty outside. She will need continued training, she is very treat-motivated and responds well to positive reinforcement. She is eager to please her people! - Crate-trained... sort of – Nora tolerates the crate but would prefer not to be left alone. She settles much better when she’s near her people. At first, she welcomes the crate as her safe place, but as she becomes more acclimated to her new home, the less she wants to be crated. - Lap guardian – She may growl softly if another dog tries to interrupt her snuggle time. She’s not aggressive, just gently possessive. - Dogs – Nora enjoys the company of other dogs of all sizes with a similar demeanor. She occasionally runs zoomies but spends most of her time lounging by her humans. - Cats and kids – Unknown, but Nora would likely do best in an easygoing, quieter home with adults. Training & Growth - Learning Off, Stay, No, and responding well. Nora gently jumps on her people for attention. - Wants to please and will thrive with calm guidance and positive reinforcement. Very treat-motivated! - Still discovering toys and play - her inner puppy came out a few weeks into her foster home. Ideal Home Nora dreams of a peaceful life where she can tag along with her person, lounge in sunspots, and be the loyal little shadow she was born to be. Transitions can be a scary time, and she will need a patient family with a calm household who will give her time to feel safe and come out of her shell. She would not do well in an apartment or urban setting, and she would benefit from a home with a secure fence. She would also benefit from someone who is home more often than not, as she prefers not to be alone, but mostly she just wants someone patient and gentle who will let her unfold at her own pace. Nora is the kind of dog who shows devotion in the purest way — by never leaving your side. Whether walking from room to room or settling down to rest, she follows faithfully, a constant shadow of love and loyalty. Nora is looking for her forever family! Is that with you? Click "apply for adoption" to get your family started! Included Veterinary Care: - Up to date on vaccinations for her age - Spayed - Microchipped - Heartworm preventative - Flea and tick preventative - Worm/parasite treatments

Story
Current location: Hanover, PA Estimated date of birth: 12/19/25 Meet Rumi Get ready, because Rumi is here and she is full of life. This spunky ginger girl is the kind of puppy who makes everything feel like the most exciting event of the day, and honestly, she's not wrong. Playful, curious, and absolutely full of personality, Rumi loves toys, loves people, and really loves other dogs. She's happy to entertain herself for a bit, but what she truly wants is to be in the middle of the action with you. Whether it's a play session, a cuddle, or just hanging out together, she is all in. She even gets thrilled when her water bowl is being filled. The simple joys of puppyhood! Rumi is doing well with sleep, making it through the night without a peep. Fair warning though - the moment she hears you stirring in the morning, her day has officially begun and she is ready. Coffee first, then puppy. You've been advised. She's still working on house training, as you'd expect from a puppy, so patience and consistency will go a long way. She's also a little escape artist in the making and is curious about everything she sees. With her gorgeous ginger coat and her boundless enthusiasm for absolutely everything, Rumi is a pure joy. She's going to grow into one amazing dog. Rumi would thrive in an active home that's ready for the wonderful chaos of puppyhood and someone with the time, energy, and patience to help this bright, lively girl become the best version of herself.

Story
Current Location: Woodbridge, VA Meet Minnie Minnie is a one year old, 27 pound Terrier mix who is still unfolding, and what is emerging with every passing day is something genuinely sweet and worth waiting for. She is loving and affectionate with the people she trusts and has a playful side that comes out beautifully around other dogs and with toys when she feels comfortable and safe. She is still finding her footing in the wider world though, and she is honest about it in the most endearing way. New people, and particularly new men, can cause her to hang back and observe from a safe distance rather than rushing in. She is not aggressive in the slightest, just careful, watching quietly and making sure things feel right before she decides to engage. She is the kind of girl who needs to write her own timeline and she deserves a home that respects that. She is a work in progress with house training and is getting better every day with patience and consistency. She is not a fan of going into her crate but once she is settled in she does just fine, which tells you that her hesitations are mostly about the unknown and that once something becomes familiar she handles it with grace. Minnie needs a calm and patient adopter who understands that some of the best things take a little time. She is not the finished product yet. She is the in between, the becoming, the slow and steady reveal of a dog who is going to be absolutely wonderful when she fully arrives. The person who gives her that space is going to feel very lucky indeed.

Story
This handsome fellow is good with people, but he has never learned how to play with other dogs. He’s walking well on a harness and leash. He loves going on walks (where he won't encounter other dogs) and he’s shown that he enjoys going for a swim in the water. Farley loves getting one-on-one attention. Due to his history (see below), he will never be a dog that can go to a dog park, but he would love a fenced backyard to run and play in. If you’d like to have a single dog to cuddle and have no cats in your home, Farley would be a perfect buddy for you. Farley spent nearly all his life at the end of a chain. He was attacked by an animal, perhaps a dog, and received terrible injuries on his neck. Due to his history, Farley is reactive around other dogs while on a leash. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO MEET FARLEY, PLEASE SUBMIT A MYM FORM AND WE WILL ARRANGE A SPECIAL MEETING. FARLEY DOES NOT COME TO REGULAR ADOPTIONS. Gender:  Neutered Male DOB: Approx. 1/23/2019 Current size; 31 pounds   PLEASE NOTE:  we only adopt to residents of the DC metro area, which includes DC, Prince Georges and Montgomery Counties in MD, and Arlington, Fairfax, Prince William, and Loudoun Counties in VA. Story
Penny has come a  long way in the short time we've had her. Initially she was very timid, but now she has become more curious. Penny has realized that people mean good things--treats and pets. She is friendly and appears to be crate-trained. We suspect she may be a little timid initially in a new home, but she will warm up quickly when she feels safe.  Penny came to us with her sister, Mouse, as well as with Mindy, who we believe is her mother. They all came from southwestern Virginia. Gender: Spayed Female Current Size: 16 pounds Breed: Beagle (?)
