Story
Oversized teddy bear seeks snuggle partner. Cuddly, smart, and eager to please, swipe right if you can handle this high energy heart with a soft side. Hatchi’s story is heartbreaking — he came into the shelter with his brother, but when their owner returned, they only took his brother… leaving Hatchi behind in a high-kill shelter. He soon found himself on the euthanasia list. Hatchi is now in a loving foster home and is looking for his forever home where he can feel safe, loved, and supported again. Hatchi does require eye drops daily for the remainder of his life. In our dream world, Hatchi would find a human that would help him feel confident and secure in a FINALLY stable environnment.

Story
Meet Nike, the Akita Siberian Husky mix. Nike arrived at the Shelter by no fault of her own – her previous guardian was unable to continue caring for her. Nike has been described as energetic and friendly with people. She enjoys going for walks and runs. She’s lived with children ages 5, 8, and 9 years of age as well as teenagers and did well. She was crated when left alone for a few hours and was eager to reconnect with her family when they came home. Nike is a smart cookie and comes with a whole vocabulary of things she knows including: “sit”, “lay down”, “high five”, “shake”, “wait”, “slow down”, and “come here”. She would love to work her brain with her new family (and bond through positive reinforcement based training. Nike enjoys riding int eh car on her way to adventures. She can be selective in her dog friends (liking some but not others) so if there are any resident dogs in the home, it would be recommended they meet prior to adoption. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.

Story
Meet Emi Emi’s sleek, brindle coat is a thing of beauty and so magnificent to behold. Engaging, charismatic, gregarious, and spirited are the first things you sense about her from the moment she enters a room. Emi exudes a brand of joy that makes her impossible to resist! Not until you witness her graceful elegance and see a bit of frost around her muzzle, do you realize she is a senior beauty with an abundance of life experiences to share. She’s 8 yrs old and has found herself homeless, but she’s seen enough in life to know there’s still a wonderous journey ahead. She is a lover of people and she’d much rather be enjoying a fun adventure with you by her side on interesting walks or trips to the beach, than be left at home alone. She needs to be an only dog and is not suitable with cats. She is approximately 60 lbs. and seems unaware she has some arthritis and hip dysplasia. But as you can see, she enjoys playing with her toys and doing tricks for treats. Her healthy curiosity keeps her engaged in life’s adventures, though she also loves her beauty naps. Please don’t let her age deter you from considering giving her a home. Her heart is overflowing with love. If you are interested in Emi, please complete our adoption application in the link below. Story
Meet Ombre, an 11-month-old Akita who radiates an easygoing and sweet demeanor that captivates everyone she meets! Despite her young age, Ombre displays a maturity beyond her years, approaching life with a calm and gentle disposition. Ombre came to our shelter as a stray about 6 weeks ago. She was found with her sidekick companion, Margarita, a sweet, timid, 11-pound, 3-year old Chihuahua.  Ombre is an exuberant, playful and very loving dog. She is very gentle with Margarita, so they are housed together and often hang out in the yards together. While Ombre thoroughly enjoys playing and interacting with others; she would thrive equally well in a home with or without another dog, thanks to her independent nature and friendly demeanor. Ombre's love for playtime is infectious, and her charming personality makes her a wonderful addition to any loving household ready to provide her with the care and companionship she deserves. Ombre has a beautiful coat, weighs about 40 pounds, seems quite potty trained and also very quiet in her kennel that she shares with little Margarita. Ombre is good with every dog and every person she has ever met; loves to play with soft toys and most of all, has discovered the joy of a kiddie pool in the heat! At the shelter, we often let them play together, but also separate them out. I have been taking Margarita home to play with my littles so she can build her confidence and come into her own. She is a delightful little girl (whose cherry eye will be fixed when she is spayed soon). Both Ombre and Margarita are vaccinated and will be chipped and spayed  We would love to get sweet Ombre and Margarita out of the shelter so they can continue to grow and thrive in a home. Ombre and Margarita are being cared for at Yolo County Animal Services in Woodland, CA (near Davis and Sacramento Airport). Story
My daughter got Nala when she was a puppy. Shortly after, she found out she was pregnant. She had a different pregnancy which let to preexisting health conditions after her pregnancy. With her health condition now and a new born, she's unable to give Nala the care and attention that she needs. Nala just turned 1, November 2025. Nala loves to play, go for walks, and gets along with other dogs and children. She was the runt from her family so she won't get any bigger. She weighs no more than 45lbs. She knows how to shake with 1 paw or both. Hoping to find her a home where they can give her more attention that she deserves.

Story
All of our foster dogs are kept in individual homes.  Go to our website Bayareasiberian.org to get the foster home contact if you do not see it in the bio.Meet Aurora: A Sweet Survivor Ready for Love! Introducing Aurora, a beautiful blue-eyed Husky who has endured a tough past but is now ready to find her forever home. Aurora was rescued from a heartbreaking situation in Texas, where she was stuck in a small pen with two other huskies, deprived of food, water, and shade in the scorching heat. Despite the neglect she faced, Aurora’s spirit remains unbroken, and she is one of the sweetest and friendliest dogs you will ever meet. Aurora loves everyone she meets and has a special way of making you feel loved with her gentle nature. She enjoys being vocal, but her cute howls are more endearing than loud and repetitive. One of her favorite things to do is lean on you and give kisses, showing just how affectionate and grateful she is for any attention and love. On a leash, Aurora is pretty easygoing and prefers a leisurely pace over running. She’s not particularly into toys but finds joy in simple pleasures like walks and cuddles. When greeting new friends, she might jump a little out of excitement, but her enthusiasm is always sweet and never overwhelming. Aurora is looking for a loving home where she can be cherished and cared for. If you’re ready to open your heart to a dog who has so much love to give, Aurora is waiting to meet you.
