Story
Bella is an adorable petite bunny-eared girl weighing just 42 pounds who is a sweet, wiggly, and shy lady, Bella doesn’t ask for much; she loves the simple things like hanging out with her family and going on walks. Bella has a reserved yet affectionate demeanor. Adopted in 2022 after being turned in to ACCTPhilly as a stray, Bella spent several happy years with her owner until they surrendered her back to the ACCT Philly in February 2026. When her second stay there became too long and with dozens of dogs entering the shelter daily, Bella was Timestamped. Fortunately, we were able to pull her and she is now blossoming in her foster home! Bella does have a noted history of resource guarding dating back to her original shelter stay, but with proper management and separation for meals and fun chews, she has shown she is completely capable of living with another dog and she has a history of being okay with cats. With her behavioral needs in mind, Bella requires a loving household that is equipped to manage her resource guarding, and ensure that any food or high-value items are given under supervision and while Bella is separated from any other resident pets. With additional training and proper management of her known behavioral needs, Bella is sure to bring light, love, and joy to her new family. Bella loves cuddles, loves going for walks and walks well on leash, loves to talk to her people using grunts and groans. Story
Lars is a handsome 2 years old, 76 lb. Terrier/Boxer mix brindle with white paws and bib around his neck. He's a big goofy people person and a love bug.  He loves to play, chew bones and give big sloppy kisses.  He is crate trained and appears to be good with other dogs and cats and school aged children. He does jump sometimes so probably not a good choice for a family with small children. Lars is neutered and has all of his vaccines.  He is being rehomed due to his owner's change in employment and just not being home very much to give him the loving home that he deserves.  Please email us at AlmostHome4Dogs@Yahoo.com for an application if Lars sounds like the right dog for your family. (Local adoptions preferred — Philadelphia and tri-state area [South Jersey and northern Delaware] only.) PLEASE READ BEFORE CONTACTING US! We are NOT a shelter: All of our dogs live in private homes with foster families. Story
Hey there! I'm Bart, a 1-year-old Boxer mix who arrived at the shelter as a stray on June 1st. I'm ready to leave the shelter behind for good and find my forever home! I'm a little shy here in the shelter but I'm hoping to find an active family soon, with owners who can match my enthusiasm and zest for life. I've met another dog here during my time at the shelter, and we said "hi" to each other but I'm still nervous and wasn't quite ready for playtime yet. If you have a doggo at home already, I'm happy to meet them at the shelter prior to adoption to see if we get along! I recently got to spend a day at Art City Vets where their team took great care of me and got me all neutered so I'm ready to be adopted! And I'm pretty sure I overheard them say I was their best patient EVER. (Okay, maybe they say that to all the dogs, but I was a really good boy!) Want to meet me? Stop by ACCT Philly and say hi! Open every day from 10am to 6pm. He was easy to leash & walk. In the yard he just wanted to hang out with me and be pet. He is very friendly & affectionate 6/11 Per staff behavioral eval Kennel Presentation: quiet and bouncy, soft eyes, loose body, tongue hanging out. At the front, some gentle jumping on the gate. Appeared eager to come out! Leash Skills: can pull hard at times, darting hard at the end of the leash and straining to go in certain directions. Sociability: he was spinning, running, zooming and jumping when loose in the pen! Ears back, loose wiggly body. I sat on a bench and he jumped on my lap for cuddles, burrowed his head into my chest for next rubs. Tongue hanging loosely, squinty eyes, low fluid tail wags. Highly social, sought constant contact with me. Play: ran after a tossed toy, then ignored. For play he would run and pounce off me, then run away and repeat. Dog Interaction: Met Larnold https://youtube.com/shorts/okYO7SlB_rQ?si=iKYcA5oxygINdCoZ https://youtu.be/9REhQ5Mdg0Q?si=afGHgy6Pm-n1XZ1I https://youtube.com/shorts/VXcF_TVSZE0?si=lph8TZ33jqXaafst Vocal at the fence, prey bows, disengaged on his own. On leash, tried to go vertical and over the head of the other dog immediately, with continued interaction, showed some teeth and then Did a Loud air snap. Decided to walk along after that. Sniffed other dog when rear was accessible, rest of walk was uneventful. Good and bad elements to the dog meet Return to Kennel: easy Color Level: remain blue Recommendations and considerations: high energy, needs to run daily, tons of fun! If other dog in the home be prepared to do a very slow and incremental introduction with lots of management like crates, baby gates, paralleled walks, etc. may take time to fully integrate Per Volunteer 6/10/2026: Very excited and playful boy. When I approached his crate in the isolation room, he was very loose and wiggly and very excited to go out! Easily leashed him, and he pulled very hard the whole way out of the shelter. I would recommend a harness. In the play yard he was super playful and loves to romp around. He also has a very cuddly side to him and got right in my lap for pets. He doesn’t seem overly interested in toys and he’s pretty treat motivated but not overly interested. Very wiggly body meeting other dogs through the fence and sometimes vocal also. Very sweet and playful young pup! Very easily went back into his kennel and no issues unleashing Walksheet notes: Bart was taken out on a walk on 6/5 and 6/7. Bart had no general issues on 6/5, had low energy and was noted by the handler “excited to go out, but still calm. Wanted to run toward someone walking through the yard". On 6/7 Bart had no issues in or out through the kennel, and was noted to have moderate issues on the leash and mild issues being shy. Energy was low to medium that day and the handler noted “Pulls very strongly towards other dogs. Shakes off after handling. Not eating outside” Dog Meet Notes from 6/7: Pulled hard towards Theodore, stiff body, high still tail, hackles raised when face to face. In the yard, able to be sniffed and sniffed back. Air snapped and started to hard bark when Theodore put a paw on his back. Per staff 6/7: "Kennel Presentation: Laying on his bed when I approached, slowly came forward, ears to the side, low tail, ate the food I tossed into his kennel. Leash Skills: Tried to push out of kennel at first, stopped and backed up after a second and then was able to easily leash. Once leashed came right out and pulled moderately on leash, tail low, ears back. Sociability: Not eating outside. When handling, tail low, ears back, panting. Shook off when I stopped handling and moved away. Play: n/a Dog Interaction: Met Theodore, pulled very strongly towards him, ears back, mid to high tail. Stiff and hackles raised when face to face. Pulled very strongly towards him as he left, was still pulling hard towards him when he was out of view, not eating food, mid tail wags, hackles raised, ears forward. Switched to a harness, when in the yard did not approach Theodore. When Theodore sniffed, he would turn around and sniff, snapped and hard barked when Theodore put a paw on him. Return to Kennel: Walked back loose leash, hopped right into kennel and leash was removed easily. Color Level: Blue" ACCT Philly is located at 111 West Hunting Park Ave in Philadelphia. Story
Terra (ACCT-A-253200) is a sweet soul who is looking for a patient and loving home where she can truly blossom! This friendly girl may start off a little shy—showing those big, soulful eyes—but she warms up beautifully once she knows you. According to her previous home, she is a loyal companion who can be protective of her favorite people. Terra is already a pro at house life! She is fully housebroken, crate trained, and knows her commands. While she was described as having a high energy level in her previous home and a love for play, she has been showing a more relaxed, low-energy side while adjusting to the shelter. She is a huge fan of back scratches and belly rubs, and she will happily take jerky treats or chew toys with a very gentle mouth. In her time at the shelter, Terra has shown that she can be social with other dogs and has participated in playgroups. If you are looking for a well-mannered and gentle friend to join your family, Terra is waiting to meet you! 📽️Videos📽️: Playgroup 6/19 https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLcnvoGYrJkIYMN7r_avH9K946h-qyGs4l ⭐Behavioral Notes⭐ Walksheet notes: Terra was walked on 6/18, 6/19 and 6/21. She was noted by handler “loves back scratches and belly rubs, very nice but a bit shy” 06/21/2026 per staff behavioral eval: Kennel Presentation: At the front of her kennel, wide eyes, ears pinned back, tail low. Took treats gently through the bars. Leash Skills: Easy to leash and once leashed came right out. Walked tail low, ears back, eyes darting, tense body, pulling lightly on leash. Sociability: Asocail in the yard, would not come over when called or for treats. Sniffing around, nose to the ground, tail low and still, ears back. Tolerated all handling with tucked tail, ears back, panting, wider eyes, would move away when I stopped. Took treats gently. Play: No interest in the toys in the yard. Dog Interaction: n/a Return to Kennel: Walked back low still tail, ears back, wide eyes. Hopped right into kennel and leash was removed by hand Color Level: Blue 06/20/2026 playgroup: Steerable with spray bottle and shake can (2/5). Nonreactive during fence meet with other dogs.
