He is learning some better leash manners, and that people aren’t so scary. Bronson truly believes he is a lap dog, and just wiggles in closer to give love. Balou was found as a stray and luckily he seems to make friends anywhere he goes. A few nice people took him in and cared for him while trying to find his owners. We can not believe his owners never came looking for him, as he is the sweetest dog. Even at the vet he has all of the staff and other clients loving all over him. Balou is a big guy, weighing over 90lbs, so he is looking for a big dog savvy home. He is well behaved, but would benefit from some training as he can get excited and want to jump up or pull on leash a little. He has quickly become a volunteer favorite, as he is just a big and cuddly teddy bear. Balou just adores people. This boy enjoys long walks, and then curling up to nap in a warm sunny spot. Plus he is quite the head turner, and can you blame them with his gorgeous eyes?! Our most regal of gals, Princess Lula, is currently in need of a foster or adopter. Don’t let the name fool you: She’s the sturdiest princess you’ll meet … a true warrior Princess. She's been through the school of hard knocks and is ready for a life of comfort. Lula entered the shelter system in November 2021. Overwhelmed by the hectic environment and unable to get out for regular exercise and enrichment, Lula struggled. She started self-harming. Day after day, she watched dogs around her get rescued or adopted while she continued to deteriorate. Then one day a wonderful human stepped up and offered to temp foster Lula through the shelter. Lula did great in the home during her two-week staycation, receiving an A+ on her foster report card. The temporary fostering period came to an end and Lula had to go back to the stressful shelter. Volunteers and staff did everything they could to comfort her, but again she struggled. Then came the day it was finally her turn to be adopted. Unfortunately, shortly after adoption, her adopter's life turned upside and she ended up without a home for Lula and herself. Lula was confined to living in a car and permanently wearing a pinch collar with someone who couldn’t meet her basic needs. After a short time, the adopter surrendered Lula to us. Unfortunately, all of Lula's life experiences had begun to leave a mark. Lula was clearly in need of a reset. She needed a fresh start. Fortunately, her temp foster was willing to take her back while we worked on a plan for her. Her first stop would involve time at the amazing K9 Kommittee's board and train. Next step, a loving home. Here is where you come in: If you’re someone who loves to get out for a long walk or hike and want a buddy, she wants to meet you. She’s approximately four to five years old, a lean 52 pounds, and is a quick learner. Since she’s a current student of K9 Kommittee (dog trainer and behaviorist), her foster or foster-to-adopter would have the opportunity to work with the team and continue the excellent foundation they’ve laid. During the transition period, K9 Kommittee would work with you in and outside the home. Meet Goliath. He was a dog at the shelter that all the volunteers were eager to walk. He would sit in his kennel with a big grin on his face when he realized it was his turn to get some TLC. Despite being eager for his strolls around the neighborhood, Goliath is easy on the leash and remains calm even when passing by reactive or easily excitable dogs. Goliath’s ideal home would be one where the people are looking to take it easy more often than break a sweat on hikes with hefty inclines. A good day for Goliath is one that has him napping in the sun and spending time with his human friends. He has a sweet disposition and is appreciative of his toys and treats. In a pack setting, Goliath has proven himself to be very comfortable around dogs with calm, well-balanced energy—(as many as four at a time). A dog who can downshift quickly is a friend of Goliath’s. In contrast, high-energy dogs who like to engage in rowdy play are not a good match for him. Goliath is currently in a board-and-train, honing old habits and developing new ones. His ideal foster or adopter would be an experienced handler who is willing to continue the work of the trainer to provide the structure and guidance he needs. Goliath is comfortable in a crate and is a low-energy dog, but he can be stubborn. For this reason, setting consistent expectations and following through is key.
