Story
MEET DEW! Dew is the sweetest senior “velcro dog” looking for his forever person. He came to rescue after his owner of 10+ years faced homelessness and made the heartbreaking decision to surrender him so he could have a better life. Now Dew is an eligible bachelor ready for love! In addition to his "unique" looks including short little legs and a beefy head, Dew also has an award-winning personality. He is fully housebroken, calm, and spends most of his day snoozing (with a stream of snores and farts – it's very charming, we swear). He loves resting his big head on your lap and is a goofy, uncoordinated goofy boy who keeps his foster family laughing. He instantly befriends new people and adores any affection he can get. Dew is great at loose-leash walking, which he likes pretty slow and short! He definitely isn't a cardio fan and prefers to be a couch pittie potato. While Dew is in a home with another dog, he has his own space and is looking for a home without other dogs as he gets stressed when they are around. He is fine to walk by them on the street with soft barks, but wants to be your one and only in the home. One consideration is that Dew does not like being crated or contained in rooms by himself and will actively work to escape. We’ve found that he isn’t destructive when being left to roam though we do expect a transition period in his new home where he will require patience and understanding while adjusting to a new home and family. Dew’s ideal home would be a calm one with someone who maybe works from home or who can even bring Dew to work with them. He prefers to not be left alone for extended periods of time and will become anxious when he is. If you’re looking for a chill, quiet dog to keep you company while you’re on zoom all day (just like his foster mom), Dew could be the guy for you! Dew has received a complete medical catchup and had a couple mast cell tumors removed. To prevent further mast cells from forming, it is recommended he remain on OTC Benedryl. Dew has a cataract in his right eye but has no vision troubles. He is currently on daily anxiety medication to help with his recent transitions which he takes very easily. Dew is available for adoption through City of Elderly Love. He is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. You can follow Dew’s foster family on Instagram at @adoptwithakila. Interested in meeting him? Story
MEET HAM! Her shelter name is actually Clarabelle but we refer to her as ‘Ham’ because it perfectly fits her fun, squishy personality and piggie body type. Ham is around 10 years old and was brought to Philly's animal control shelter as a stray, though it's suspected that the person who brought her in was her original owner. Ham was actively lactating, had bite wounds around her neck, and pressure sores on her legs. Because she was already fighting infection and then stressed in the shelter, she developed severe pneumonia and almost didn't make it back out. Luckily, her sweet little face caught her foster family’s heart, and she was swept off to the ER and a new life of safety with City of Elderly Love. She has since made a full recovery! Since coming to the rescue in December 2024, Ham has gone through quite the transformation. She has completely recovered from her stint of homelessness and had all of her medical needs addressed. Since losing some unnecessary weight and recovering physically and emotionally, Ham has blossomed into a spunky, joyful, medium-energy girl who loves to do zoomies through the house and yard just as much as she loves to curl up under a heated blanket. Ham loves to meet new people and has always been a social girl. She is not currently living with kids but we think she’d do well in a home with older kids who might not mind this little house hippo zooming by them during playtime. We can’t wait to see this squishy, hilarious girl complete one lucky family! Ham is currently in foster care on a small hobby farm with many other animals but we think she’d be happiest in a home without pets. She doesn’t love to share her space with other dogs and can be reactive to them on walks. She shows too much interest in smaller animals and may be too pushy in her approach with them. Given that Ham has likely had several litters in her younger years, it seems she’d prefer to spend her golden years being the sole center of attention, which is fine! Ham’s ideal home would be outside the hustle and bustle of the city where she can lounge in the sun in her own yard and take leisurely strolls through the park. Ham has an old torn CCL in her knee which healed on its own at some point but causes a bit of arthritis now but it doesn’t slow her down in the least. In fact, she seems even more mobile these days. She should remain on a glucosamine/joint supplement and may need meds for pain management as she continues to age. Like most pitties, she has some itchy skin and does well on a daily allergy medication and may need something stronger during peak allergy seasons (medicated shampoo or cytopoint). She recently had a dental cleaning, had several mammary masses removed, and is feeling and looking better than ever! Ham (Clarabelle) is available for adoption through City of Elderly Love! She has been fully vetted since leaving the shelter and is spayed, vaccinated and microchipped. She is also perfectly house-trained! Interested in adopting her? Story
MEET NELLIE! Nellie is an 8-10 year old pittie who was seized for cruelty and neglect by Philly's Humane Law Enforcement team, completely emaciate. She spent some time in the shelter before she hitched a ride to City of Elderly Love and never looked back! She's now ready to lay down some roots in a low-key home with a family who can help Nellie's world remain small due to her difficult past. Nellie has the most unique face with wrinkles galore, soulful golden eyes, and pouty lips. She also has some muscle loss in her head but now that she is at a healthy weight, it's less noticeable. Despite looking larger in photos, Nellie is a peanut! She has short little legs, a peanut head, and (now) a nice round belly. Nellie is currently living with another dog but prefers her own space where she can spread out. She tolerates him, but can get overstimulated around him easily and isn't afraid to tell him to beat it if he's being annoying. Because of this, we think she'd be happiest as an only-pet or with another lower-key dog. Nellie loves her crate and you can sometimes find her curled up in it without being prompted. Nellie takes a little time to warm up to new people and can be anxious in new settings (like an unfamiliar car ride or during a vet visit) but settles in wonderfully and will be your very best friend if you offer her a treat. She loves being petted and scratched and will bonk her head into your leg or flip over on her back to let you know she'd like some lovin'. We really don't know anything about Nellie's past before entering the shelter its safe to say she's been through a lot. She doesn't require much - a quieter home where she isn't asked to go on tons of adventures but can get a nice stroll through the neighborhood and a comfy spot to sit in the sun would be a dream come true. Nellie is available for foster or adoption through City of Elderly Love. She is spayed, vaccinated and microchipped. Interested in meeting her? Story
MEET BLUEBERRY! This sweet girl has been bounced around enough - she's ready to lay down roots in her dream retirement home! Blueberry was originally adopted from a shelter in 2013 and lived in a home for several years where she was loved and well cared for. When that family ran into hard times they rehomed her with someone they thought would take good care of her, but unfortunately Blueberry found herself tied up and abandoned, then taken in by someone who was letting her live outside in their yard. She was ultimately surrendered to animal control and is now safe with City of Elderly Love. Somehow Blueberry has gone through so many changes and remained the sweetest and most gentle girl! Blueberry is now around 12 years old and is an all around sweetheart and incredibly easy to handle! She is beyond content sleeping next to you while you work or watch TV during the day. She is really low maintenance, taking pets whenever she can get them but never demanding them. When you do stop petting her she will usually look back at you to check in on why the fun stopped, then go right back to sleep! Our favorite is when she gets in silly moods where she does play bows and has little spurts of zoomies but those don’t usually last more than a minute or two. Blueberry occasionally loves a squeaky toy and will gently chew her toy while taking pets. She’s a dainty player and doesn’t require very durable toys. Blueberry has been housebroken since day 1 and seems to be content going outside every 4-5 hours. She spends much of the work day alone and doesn’t make a peep! Blueberry loves to approach people and gives gentle tail wags when she gets to take pets and snuggle right up to you! She has attended events and is a peach when meeting her people. She's happy with a 15-20 minute walk a day and is great on leash, responsive to leash guidance, and barely pulls. Blueberry has interacted with various dogs since entering the shelter (including play groups) and the rescue. She can be a little forward in her greetings with other dogs but is otherwise friendly and appropriate! She loves to go on daily walks with her canine foster sister and is happy to just chill with other dogs ar our events. Looking for a sweet, spry senior who could do well in just about any home? Blueberry's your girl! Blueberry has the expected lumps and bumps for a 12 year old dog which were found to be benign lipomas (fatty deposits). She was previously spayed and is now up to date on all vaccinations! Blueberry is an absolute angel at the vet and distracts all the vet techs when they see her come in! She stands patiently for her vet exams and happily takes treats and pets when offered. Blueberry is available for adoption through City of Elderly Love. She is spayed, vaccinated and microchipped. Interested in adopting her? Visit cityofelderlylove.org to complete an online adoption questionnaire!

Story
I took Koby in because one of my students couldn't care for him anymore. He is leash trained, house trained and crate trained. He is very affectionate and loves to play. I have 4 cats and he loves them but he is also a bit scared of them (my old cat bullies him). He loves treats and is easily trained using them. If you can take him he comes with his cage clothes toys etc. If interested call (267)334-9041
