Story
Kash is an 11 month old, blue nose pitbull terrier. He was born May 23, 2023. Kash likes to sprint across the yard and roll around in the grass. He follows simple commands such as sit, come, in the house, cage, outside and downstairs. Kash is not trained to a leash, however, he remains inside the perimeter without escaping. Kash has encountered numerous dogs without engaging in aggressive behaviors. Kash is playful and looks forward to fun. Unfortunately, as a new healthcare worker, I am no longer able to uphold these duties. Over the course of 2 months, I have not been able to provide the full attention or proper love a puppy needs. I am looking for someone who can nurture and love Kash just as much as I do.

Story
Riley joined our family when she was found being abandoned on the side of the road. She has been a loved member of our family for years. It is with a heavy heart that we are looking to re-home her as we have recently welcomed a baby into our family and we can no longer provide Riley with the care and time that she needs. Riley is a sweet dog who would do best in a single-pet household with older children who are familiar with dogs as she has high energy and loves to play. Riley loves her people and shows her affection by cuddling and laying belly up for belly rubs as often as possible. Riley would be a great companion for a family who has a fenced in yard where she can run and enjoy time playing with her humans. We love Riley and would love to see her go to a loving home!

Story
MEET HANK! This polite older gentleman was found by animal control tied up to a post in an abandoned shopping center. He was timestamped for euthanasia due to the shelter being so full but thankfully, he caught the eye of a City of Elderly Love foster family and is now ready to find the perfect home! Not much is known about Hank’s past, aside from the fact that he was once an owned pet, but his found condition indicates he was likely on his own for a while. Hank has received a full medical workup which revealed an old spinal injury that causes weakness in his hind legs. Coupled with a bit of arthritis, Hank wears booties on his back paws to stop from scraping when walking on concrete and gets an abundance of compliments on his fashion choices every time he goes out! Despite his hardships, Hank has remained a polite and happy dog, eager to meet every person and dog he comes in contact with, especially now that he has put on some weight and is feeling much better! He also doesn’t let his mobility issues stop him as he still loves to walk, run and play – just a bit slower than some of the other dogs. The only real limitation he has is the inability (or lack of desire) to walk up or down more than 3-4 stairs or participate in rough and tumble play. Hank’s favorite thing to do is roam around slowly and endlessly, taking in his surroundings through sight and smell as he is at least partially deaf. He loves to gallop around a grassy field and say hello to any dog who might come within 20 feet of him. When inside, Hank mostly keeps to himself, taking frequent snoozes in his dog bed and occasionally playing with his favorite stuffed toy. His favorite games -- when he wants to play -- are tug-of-war and indoor fetch. He walks very well on a leash, and rarely ever barks, making him the perfect, quiet companion. Hank would do best in a home with continuous access to a yard big enough to require routine perimeter checks to ensure it’s all still there, and perhaps a couple of like-minded companions with whom to form a pack. He is not a constant house dog and would do best with an active family. Hank will also require routine vet checkups and lab testing as his care team have identified organ abnormalities that are not currently concerning and want them to stay that way! Hank is house trained, crate trained, neutered and microchipped and currently cohabitates with the resident cat. He is the true definition of resilience, and now just needs his forever home to complete his comeback journey! Hank is available for adoption through City of Elderly Love! Interested in adopting him? Story
MEET BLUE! This stunner is named Blue (though she's more red)! Blue is around 8 years old and we originally met her back in 2019 when she was surrendered to Philly's animal control shelter due to her family becoming homeless. We were able to help provide Blue temporary foster care until her original family was able to secure housing. Fast forward to 2023 and Blue was returned to the rescue due to further housing issues. Blue is a hilarious, kangaroo of a dog. She's always happy to see her humans and will dance around in delight when she sees you. Her favorite things to do are go for walks and take in every smell she comes across, chasing soccer balls (and rarely giving them back), going for car rides, and snuggling up on the couch. She's a strong girl who weighs around 80 lbs. Her foster family walks her on a no-pull Freedom Harness to help her not pull so hard on walks but she does tend to still pull. Blue LOVES to play! Any kind of toy is the best kind of toy. While in the yard, she'll do zoomies so fast it's hard to believe she's considered a senior! We call her a "flash dance" player because she'll freeze, do a little spin, freeze again, and so on. This girl will have you laughing all day long, then lay her head in your lap while winding down for the night. Blue does have a couple behavior quirks to keep in mind. While she enjoys interacting with other dogs (and even cats!), once she is comfortable in a space, she will begin guarding items and spaces that she considers high value such as food, toys, and her crate. She will start tussles over them. Because of this we recommend Blue not live with other pets. In addition to guarding items from other pets, Blue can also be a little protective of her favorite humans. While she usually loves meeting most people, she may growl, grumble, bark at strangers while on walks or strangers coming into her home if she's uncomfortable. That said, Blue is an excellent listener! She's super smart, super obedient, and is eager to please. She is crate trained and enjoys spending time in her crate. Should a new person be coming over, it's easy to ask Blue to go in her crate so she has her own safe space. She is currently living with children and adores them but we recommend she go to a home with older kids due to her size and bounciness. Blue is completely housebroken and great about holding it while you're at work! Blue may need a special type of adopter but she's a special type of dog! With a little bit of structure, she is the sweetest, goofiest, most loving pup. She is the definition of Man's Best Friend. She may have a couple quirks, but don't we all? Blue has been medically evaluated and proven to be a healthy girl! She is spayed, vaccinated and microchipped. Interested in adopting her? Visit cityofelderlylove.org to complete an online adoption questionnaire or email us at info@cityofelderlylove.org! PA Kennel License 12930

Story
MEET FREDDIE! Meet the total package: Freddie! Freddie joined the rescue after being found as a stray in Philadelphia and brought to the animal control shelter. We don’t know much about his past as he didn’t have a chip or any identification. He was in rough shape and extremely emaciated but despite his condition, Freddie was so amazingly sweet and happy with every interaction! He was an easy addition to the rescue and his foster home! Freddie is here to prove that age is just a number! We guess him to be somewhere around 10+? This sweet senior is full of life, very spunky, and determined to make every moment count! He will greet you with a wagging tail and plenty of cuddles, whether you’ve been gone 5 minutes, 5 days, or 5 hours. Freddie is very dog friendly! He’s done well meeting both male and female dogs and enjoys romping around with them. Because he’s hard of hearing, Freddie doesn’t always hear his foster sibling growl if he’s getting too close to her personal space- he’d love a patient foster sibling who doesn’t mind a clumsy, goofy dog’s company! In the house, Freddie is very much a Velcro dog. Whether you’re going outside, to the kitchen, or even the bathroom, Freddie would love to come along! With that said- he does well alone and doesn’t make a sound! He’s been house trained since Day One! He has yet to have one single accident in the house. He is, however, a silly dog who is very curious in household items like the trash can or the toilet which he can investigate and dig around in so you may want to keep them closed. Freddie LOVES his pets and cuddles. His favorite spot is in your arms staring into your eyes with his tail gently wagging. Freddie has been fully vetted since coming to the rescue. He is doing very well for his age and despite the condition he joined us in! He’s on a daily joint medication to help his crunchy old man joints, and wears little booties in the house to avoid slipping on the hardwood floor. He may not need them ongoing as he's getting stronger every day. His main focus now is gaining weight! Freddie gets 4 smaller meals a day with the hopes of gaining about 10 pounds to get him to a normal weight for a dog his size. He's doing great packing on the pounds now and will continue to do so! He may be a little hard of hearing but this doesn’t hold him back at all! He responds to a whistle or a clap, and otherwise, we find he’s a happy boy not being able to hear too much of the hustle and bustle outside of the house. Freddie is such a sweet but resilient soul. We don’t know what his past consisted of, but we know his future is filled with a warm bed and loving cuddles. Freddie isn’t asking for much in his forever home- he needs cuddles, lots of love, and regular meals! Freddie is available for adoption through City of Elderly Love! He is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. Interested in adopting him? Visit cityofelderlylove.org to complete an online adoption questionnaire or email us at info@cityofelderlylove.org!
