Story
My name is Sheba and I came to the shelter when my previous owner could no longer care for me. I arrived to the shelter pretty underweight but with proper diet and some TLC I am doing much better! I have some broken teeth, and some possible arthritis (common in older dogs) - but I don`t let this get me down! Like many dogs in NC, I am currently heartworm positive, but don`t worry - OCAS will cover the cost of my treatment! Ask the front for more information!

Story
Queenie has had a tough life, being overbred and likely caged. She is extremely affectionate and her favorite spot is to be a snuggly decorative pillow leaning on you, nuzzling her head into yours - she cannot get enough. She would be a wonderful support/comfort animal with her hands on affection. Queenie gets along with the other fosters in the home, though she does exhibit some intolerance to female dogs in which case she pins them on their backs until they behave. This may be a result of her being a mother. She likes to walk and is crate trained, and E collar trained. She doesn’t mind being alone in my bedroom, which is her preferred space. She is extremely sweet with all humans, approaching them calmly, looking for love, with her little nubby tail going like an allegro metronome. Queenie is available and is sponsored for foster to adoption. Telling me this loving lady. You won't be disappointed.

Taco is a sweet girl that comes with some baggage. She was found on the side of the road and now is a spoiled baby who loves to be tucked into bed at night. She does not get along with other dogs or cats. The perfect home for her would be her as the only pet in the house and given so much love.

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Please be sure to click on Cassi's photo to learn all about her, and the home we are seeking for her placement.Cassi is a very sweet and sensitive girl who is looking for a laid back family to call her own.  She would love another dog in her forever home that is confident and well behaved, to help show her that new things aren't scary.  She does have some anxiety, and is currently taking medications that are making a huge difference for her.  She would do best living in a home with experienced dog owners who are patient with her, and willing to provide a consistent environment for her to thrive.  She would do well with kitties, but they should a dog savvy cat would be best.  Cassi can be vocal, so she would not do well in high density housing.   Cassi needs humans who are not gone for long hours.  All humans in her forever home must be 12 years of age, or older.  She requires a fenced in yard (physical fencing no invisible fences please).  She is up to date on preventative medications, vaccines and has been spayed and micro chipped too. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 3, 2024, 10:18 am

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Please click on Buddy's photo to read his bio prior to applying. Buddy is a really sweet, goofy guy. He loves to run around his big yard and play with his canine sister and brothers, he enjoys going for walks and loves to snuggle with his humans. He has come a long way so far, but still has some training to do. He can be quite the bouncy little boy when there is food to be had, and is still learning to take treats gently.  His forever family will need to ensure he continues to work on his impulse control. Buddy would do best with another playful canine in the home to run and wrestle with. Preferably a female, as he tends to get overly excited when he plays with the larger, male dog in his foster home. He is able to adapt his play style based on each individual dog, but when he gets overly excited he needs a break in his crate.  He has met kitties too, but would do best with dog savvy cats that will set limits.   Buddy requires a forever home with experienced dog owners who can be patient and continue with his training. Children should be over 10 years of age and a fenced yard (not electric) is a must. Story
Meet Ducky! Hes an absolute love bug, eager to make his humans happy, and is genuinely just the happiest boy youll ever meet. If you dont mind having your personal space invaded with puppy love constantly, then Ducky is for you. Theres no such thing as too close when it comes to this Velcro-dog. Hes got a degree in cuddles and a knack for melting the hearts of anyone who meets him. Duckys curious, playful, and fearless. His favorite activities include playing with his toys, playing in the yard, going for walks, and meeting new people! He enjoys walks on a leash, learns at an impressive pace, and is crate trained. Ducky would do best as the only pet in a home, but he could do well with another dog who lets him be the boss. While Ducky knows a variety of commands and is eager-to-please, he is so excited and can be distracted - so he needs a family who can advocate for him and love him for all his silliness. Ducky was found as a stray in January 2024 and is believed to have been abandoned as a puppy. He has been with his foster family for more than a year and he has grown to be such an amazing boy! His foster family has worked hard to train him in a way that advocates for him and ensures a smooth transition for when he meets his forever family. Ducky would thrive with a family who is able to provide him with consistent structure and enrichment. Ducky would be suitable for a family with older children. If youd like to meet Ducky, we can promise hed be thrilled to meet you too!

Story
Hello. I was transferred to OCAS from another shelter and I seem like the sweetest guy! The medical staff noted that I was gentle and did well for handling during my intake exam and vaccines. I`m so cute and I`m ready to find people that will give me a good home and love me. Insights from my friends, foster, or adventure buddies:He is a sweet boy; gentle with the kids (9 & 12); very curious (stops to smell and mark a lot); enjoys running (while on the leash). He`s strong and can pull hard while on leash, especially when he sees squirrels or other dogs. So, he would benefit from some leash training. He loves treats, so that will help with training. He`s overall a very good boy and incredibly sweet!`Buckie was an absolute angel to have during the ice storm. Other than not liking his reflection (in mirrors and windows) we have nothing negative to say about him. His demeanor is calm and when we were just chilling in our apartment he was content to rest on his blankets and nap. He never barked nor peed in the house (not sure if he was housetrained or not) but he was very respectful of us and our space. On the rare occasion he took something we didn’t want him to have, such as a shoe, he could easily be redirected with a toy and was respectful/not aggressive with us. He enjoys long walks (he will run with you on the leash if you let him) and can definitely be properly leash trained with treats, praise, and consistency. He LOVES meeting people and always got excited/pulled on the leash anytime we walked past people. He’s one of the best dogs we’ve met and will make a loving addition to any family. We love his ability to chill/rest when we are doing work. He doesn`t require constant attention, is content to do his own thing.``Buckie was such a sweetheart. He’s just a baby with a big head!! While very nervous getting into the car, once he got familiar with it he tolerated car rides very well. He’s very strong, and will pull on the leash if he wants to sniff something out, but can also walk with a relaxed leash at times. He’s not especially treat motivated, but loves being called a good boy and getting pets. He’s easily riled up and will wrestle with you and smother you with kisses. Buckie was so affectionate and sweet. He’s all about the kisses and doesn’t really care too much about the treats. He was very interested in looking at himself in the mirror- admiring how handsome of a boy he is. Also! He seems to reall
