Story
Meet BEVERLY (1% Great Dane!) * Bev is our shelter underdog. She is about 2 years old and has a puppy energy about her. Bev's favorite activities are playing Tag and Keep Away with her other canine friends in our play yard. * Bev would be great with people who have personal experience training a larger breed who needs consistency and parameters established to patiently teach her how to behave. A professional trainer is also a fantastic bonding experience for both dog and adopter. Our shelter works with several we can recommend! * Beverly loves to play with other dogs, BUT would not be a good fit in a home with cats. She loves yard time with people willing to run or play toss with a ball. She would not enjoy being left in a yard unattended, but most dogs would find that pretty boring anyway! She would be a great match with people who like to be outdoors and like long walks. We'll be the first to tell you that she can be a challenge when she mouths or tries to play with her leash during walks! She's also likely to grab your mittens or sleeve to play with it. * Beverly is a Bulldog/Pitbull mix, but can you guess what else she's mixed with? She is also 1% Great Dane! One of her friends at the shelter had her DNA tested as a gift. * What will melt your heart about Bev though... is her sad eyes as she patiently waits her turn to be walked at the shelter. Bev was found wandering the golf course in Riverview. No one ever came for her... * She may not be a good match in a home with young kids, or kids unfamiliar with strong dogs. She is a bit of a bull in a china shop and would likely knock little ones down thinking they can play as hard as she can. * We have had Beverly spayed, vaccinated and heartworm tested (negative). She is also currently on monthly prevention (of course). Check out wacshelter.com for an online application. All dogs are spayed/neutered, heartworm tested/on current prevention and vaccinated. Interested in meeting or adopting Beverly? Please submit an application through our website at wacshelter.com. * Go to www.wacshelter.com * CLICK THE "APPLY ONLINE" BUTTON FOR AN ONLINE APPLICATION! :) * You will get an email confirmation * Once your application has been processed (that can take 1-3 days) a volunteer will call or email with any questions. * We set up a time with you to meet the animal you've applied to adopt! We look forward to meeting you! Please email us at wacvolunteers@gmail.com with any additional questions!

Story
Bunny was picked up as a stray, though officers believe the individual who found her actually knew her and couldn't tolerate the way she had been existing. Bunny was in so much pain she could barely walk. A geriatric dog at least 10 years old, she had a severe uterine infection that required immediate surgical intervention to save her life. She had clearly been bred to the point of abuse, though barely able to stand due to joint pain and arthritis. Now that Bunny has recovered from surgery, and her arthritis is managed... she is ready to find the home she really deserves. A home who knows dogs should be cherished. At her age, it takes her longer to get around. What she would love is a home where she can sit in the sun with her new family or lounge on her dog bed inside. Thank you for your interest in adopting! If you think the animal in this profile might be a good fit for your home and would like to meet them, here's how! !. Go to our website at wacshelter.com. 2. Click on the Apply To Adopt button to submit an online adoption application. NOTE: You will get an email confirmation that we have received your application. If you do not see this email appear upon submission, please check your "spam" folder. 3. Your application will be processed and a volunteer will call or email with any questions. NOTE: If any questions are left unanswered or incomplete, the application cannot be processed. A completely filled out application will take 1-3 days to process! 4. We will set up a time with you to meet the animal you've applied to adopt! ** We DO give preference to applicants with verifiable dog experience as a primary caretaker. All dogs are spayed/neutered, heartworm negative unless otherwise indicated. All are up to date on age appropriate vaccinations and current on heartworm prevention! Additional questions... Does this dog get along with cats? There is almost always an acclimation period when a new pet joins the household. We are happy to suggest a few ways to ease the transition. If one of our dogs is reported to have lived with cats previously, that will be indicated in the dog's description! Does this dog react well to other dogs? No dog loves every other dog, just as humans do not like every other human they meet. A proper introduction (meet and greet) would be required as part of our application process. Is this dog good with children? The better question is how the children have been taught to handle animals. A dog will respond negatively if he/she is not being handled properly. We can offer suggestions on how to teach children to interact with dogs and pay attention to body language. Young children should never be left unsupervised with new dogs. How did this dog end up in a shelter? The top reasons dogs are given up are: Moving without considering the needs of the pets Death of the owner with no plan in place for the pets Previous owner did not provide appropriate training Owner did not consider the lifespan of a dog Owner did not consider the cost of providing for a dog
