Meet Rango!This 3-year-old charmer came to the shelter in early May, and the more we’ve gotten to know him, the more we’ve realized just how much of a gentleman he really is.The shelter can be a stressful place, so at first glance he may seem like a high-energy guy. But in a home? He’s surprisingly mellow. He loves lounging in the sun, relocating to a new nap spot when the temperature changes, settling in with a good bone, and working on enrichment toys.He’s also 1000% potty trained, has great recall, is food motivated and easy to train, takes treats gently, doesn’t counter surf, doesn’t jump on people, and has excellent bite inhibition. We haven’t seen any resource guarding with people, either. Basically, he has very good house manners and would like that noted on the record.On walks, he generally doesn’t pull and is happy to go longer distances as long as he can move at his own pace. Big dogs can make him nervous, which is something he’s working on, and deer are apparently extremely exciting. Squirrels, however, get a pass.He enjoys playing, but he’s not demanding about it. He’ll let you know when he’s in the mood, happily play tug-of-war, and usually participate in about two rounds of fetch before lying down with the ball and declaring the game complete.He’s a big baby, a quick learner, and a genuinely sweet dog who just needs someone willing to give him time to blossom. Because he needs continued support with some reactivity, he would do best with a dog-experienced home rather than a first-time owner.More than anything, this handsome guy needs a loving, understanding home that will give him the time and security to show just how wonderful he really is. Stop by the shelter during regular business hours to visit available pets. AVHS is open 6 days a week 11am-6pm, closed Sundays, adoptions wrap up at 5:30pm each day.

Meet Spike. His name is a misnomer because he is a gentle, mild mannered guy. He loves hanging out with his kids, going for car rides, and is super easy on leashed walks.His foster kids even tested his crowd handling skills by taking him to an adoption event at a Petsmart. He is deaf so his foster family has started to teach him sign language. Because he is deaf he becomes very attached with his family and keeps track of them. He is an amazing pup. He is potty trained. His shots are up to date and he is neutered. Hephaestus is a purebred blue nose bully. He's a wonderful dog. A little rambunctious. He's not house trained. He suffered with me through an accident. I was near death and he didn't see Dad for 6 months and he laid in one spot on the floor for 18 hours. When I came home 6 months later he was so happy to see Dad but Dad being in a wheelchair was strange to him and new to him and he's been very cautious ever since when everyone else is around me. He loves cuddles and loves to play. He also will save you from evil air bubbles in your Amazon packages. He absolutely loves attention and will defend you to his last breath. I just currently cannot take him with me in my living situation. Adoption to a loving family would be the best option the fee is to help me pay for his neutering
