Story
5 years old Neutered male Currently 61 lbs. Happy, joyful, loving boy Gets along with other dogs Despite my rough appearance, I'm as friendly as they come! I've had my fair share of medical challenges, including entropion and a hematoma on my ear, but thanks to some amazing veterinary care, I'm now pain-free and ready to find my forever home. My tail may be docked due to a tumor, but it doesn't stop me from wagging my nubbin with joy whenever I see you! I love absolutely everyone, people of all ages and my dogs friends too! I'm a smiley and happy boy who's a sucker for all the love and attention I can get. All I want in life is someone to love, snuggle, and give me treats. I'll even work for my treats! I'm very eager-to-please type of guy and am always ready to learn something new. I'm an all-around fantastic dog who will fit in well with just about any family. The shelter staff tell me my new family will be hitting the jackpot when they take me home! The online adoption listing websites require that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We encourage you to select your new companion by considering each dog's individual personality and pet qualities instead of relying on a breed label that is only a guess.March 1, 2024, 9:13 pm

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Adult (estimated between 2 and 7 years old, exact age unknown) Spayed female Currently 54 lbs. Playful and loving but slow to trust Gets along with dogs Looking for a home with children over the age of 14 years I'm on a journey to rediscover trust, love, and the joy of companionship! My past may have left me a bit reserved when meeting new people, but with a bit of time, love, and of course, some tasty treats, I become everyone's best friend in no time! I'm beginning to learn to trust again and have started to come out of my shell. There's nothing I love more than butt scratches and cuddles, and I'm generous with kisses to show my appreciation. I'm a toy enthusiast, especially when it comes to stuffed toys with squeakers, and I've become quite the expert at fetching and bringing them back. With my excellent manners—knowing sit, down, and paw—I've even been upgraded to office dog status, where I help greet visitors with a wag of my tail. While I'm a real snuggle bug, I prefer a quiet environment, so a home with kids over the age of 14 would be the perfect fit for me. If you're seeking a gentle and well-mannered companion to join your family, I'm ready to love again! Story
Howdy, my name is Dallas and I am a fun-loving guy. I lived with a very nice family most of my life; I had some kids to play with, went to dog parks, had a fenced yard to play in and learned life skills like housetraining; I even lived with a couple kitties and was friendly to them. When I started to protect the furniture from my young masters, it caused some disruption in the home and I came to WCHS to find a new place to live. I was respectful of my person's things and had the luxury of roaming free when I was alone. I must confess that I am not a fan of crates and find them quite confining. At the shelter I am learning to be more comfortable in a crate because I have a soft-sided crate in my kennel that I can go into and out of whenever I want to. When I get to my new home, I would be willing to continue practicing with a crate; maybe you could take the door off one and make it available to me. A cozy blanket and some fun toys might make it inviting such that I could come and go as I please and become more comfortable hanging out in a crate. I am hoping for a calm assertive leader who will set some boundaries in a patient and positive manner because I am a sensitive lad who just needs guidance. A while back I lived with a Lab and also did well with a Ridgeback at my dog sitter's place; I have also been enjoying participating in the playgroups at WCHS. When I am around other pooches I would appreciate if no food or resources like bones are in the area because I prefer to enjoy those things in private. Speaking of eating, I would rather not use metal bowls; I find the racket they can make very unnerving. Perhaps a plastic or ceramic bowl would be an option; I could even enjoy my meals using a foraging mat to make it a fun and mentally engaging activity. In my previous home I had learned to sit by the door and whine when I needed to use the outdoor facilities. When I come into my new home it would be wise for me to have plenty of opportunities to get outside until we learn each other's signals and routines. I have been described as friendly, affectionate, playful and calm; I enjoy a rousing game of tug and think bubbles are wonderfully entertaining. I am a young lad who needs plenty of exercise to stay happy and healthy; I think going for walks is a spectacular way to explore and spend time with my person. Stop by to meet me in person because I think you will agree that I am 74 pounds of stupendous.#1

Story
Yahoo, my name is Teddy and I am a spitfire and a perpetual motion machine. I was a stray at MADACC (Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control Commission) before I was transferred to WCHS. I am hoping for an active family who help me grow into the best pooch ever; I have enormous potential. I am adorable, lively and fun but I do have a ton to learn, discover and explore. I am counting on you to help me safely navigate the world and experience new things each day to allow me to grow into a confident young dog. So many things that seem common to you are completely new to me. I think I would be game for any activity that we could do together; I love to spend time with humans. When we are out and about, perhaps we can play dog parkour to keep my mind thinking and build self-assuredness. I have already shown that I readily hop up on a bench just to sit next to the volunteer who is walking me. I do need some practice walking on a leash because that is a new activity for me and I tend to head in random directions on a whim. I weigh about 38 pounds now but I do have plans to get bigger so it would be lovely to take some classes with you so that I learn manners and proper social skills. I hope to be your constant companion; to be welcome everywhere we go I know I must be polite. I also know I have to practice something called house-training so I know proper potty behavior. A routine, lots of yummy treats and praise will go a long way to helping me master house-training when I potty outside. Puppies and dogs need love, exercise, mental stimulation and consistency to be healthy, happy and confident. I would be very open to all sorts of housemates; I can be a bit mischievous and may find any other critter as a potential playmate, so they will need to understand that about me. I often explore the world with my mouth and while I am teething, I like to chew; my little puppy teeth are very sharp, so if I am around children we should always be supervised and I should be offered acceptable things to chew on. It is important that children learn about respecting me, too, and treat me gently because I am fragile and sensitive. Raising a puppy is a big responsibility, a lot of work, and it may interrupt your sleep cycle for a bit, but a courteous and well-behaved dog is certainly worth the investment and I promise to be loyal, love you unconditionally and be a companion forever. Stop by to meet me in person; I think we could have a splendid time together.#1

Story
Hi I'm Gibler! I came in from Whitewater with Jesse, Joey, and DJ. I'm pretty easy going and love attention. I love my walks and mind my own business for the most part. Boy dogs are ok but pushy female dogs I don't care for.

Hi I'm Joey, I'm sure Jesse talked about me already, but I'm the handsome one! I was a stray with 3 other dogs in Whitewater and then we came to Lakeland. I'm a bigger boy who does walk pretty well on a leash and more or less mind my own business. I'd prefer a home without other dogs so I can soak up all the attention myself.

Not good with dogs, Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Hi I'm Jesse! I came in with 3 other dogs I was hanging with on the streets of Whitewater. We got to take a ride in a police car, yep all four of us together. Joey and I look pretty similar so we could be siblings, but were not talking. I'm kind of big but I do walk well on a leash and have good manners. I don't react to other dogs but I don't want to live with them either. I will make a great companion!
