Believed to be a Labrador Retriever/Red Heeler mix, Gus brings together two exceptional breeds. From the Labrador side, he is expected to be affectionate, loyal, and eager to please, with that classic Lab devotion to his people. From the Red Heeler (Australian Cattle Dog) side, he will likely carry intelligence, determination, and a playful spark. Heelers are known for being quick learners and deeply bonded to their families — and Gus is already showing signs of both smarts and heart. Gus experienced an unfortunate accident prior to coming into rescue that resulted in the loss of his front leg. He received prompt medical care and is healing beautifully. Most importantly, it is not slowing him down. He runs, plays, explores, and embraces life just like any other puppy — he simply does it with a little extra resilience and character. Tripod puppies adapt incredibly well. They do not dwell on what they’ve lost, and they do not see themselves as different. Gus has already figured out how to balance, zoom, and keep up with the fun. Three-legged dogs often form especially strong bonds with their families and tend to be wonderfully determined and confident. Owning a tripod dog doesn’t mean limitations — it often means watching a truly inspiring spirit thrive. Meet Cadbury Cadbury has sure had a tough few years. A few months ago, he found himself at a high-kill shelter when his owner could no longer care for him. It was not the first time he ended up homeless and alone…through no fault of his own. Cadbury is a special boy, just 7 years old and about 38 lbs; he's small and compact, and a little stocky. We are not sure of his breed…could be a Cattle Dog/Lab Mix? He looks like a giant Chihuahua. He's a special-needs pup because he is missing his front right leg which became mangled about a year ago, and could not be saved. While sometimes difficult to get around, he does ok overall. Most challenging for him is going up and down stairs. As such, a ranch-style home or other one-level home would be best for him. Cadbury loves attention and enjoys the company of people. He also enjoys hanging out with other dogs, of all sizes. He is good with cats too. Cadbury enjoys car rides and is a very well-mannered passenger. Overall this sweet boy is a great dog, deserving of a loving and compassionate family of his own. Cadbury is up-to-date on all vetting, including vaccinations, is heartworm negative and on year-round heartworm prevention. He’s neutered and microchipped. Cadbury is housebroken as well. Meet Coca Cola! Lovingly nicknamed Coco by his foster family, Coca Cola is a young Blue Heeler mix who is newly neutered and just beginning his journey in rescue. After being abandoned and left behind in an apartment when his previous owners moved away, Coco was dealt a very unfair start in life. Because of that, the world still feels big, unfamiliar, and sometimes scary to him. Right now, Coco is timid and slow to warm up in new situations. Car rides, crates, and changes in environment are all very new experiences, and he is still learning that he is safe. He may hang back at first and observe quietly, but once he starts to feel comfortable, his true personality begins to shine. Underneath that initial shyness is a gentle, affectionate boy who genuinely enjoys human attention and wants to connect. One thing we’ve already discovered? He LOVES the snow! Watching him light up and play in the winter weather has been a joy for his foster family. Coco is showing beautiful signs of progress every day. He enjoys his meals, is beginning to seek out affection, and is slowly building confidence as he decompresses in foster care. With patience, consistency, and a little encouragement, he is learning that good things happen when he trusts. Coca Cola will thrive in a patient, dog-savvy home that understands shy dogs and is committed to helping him build confidence at his own pace. A predictable routine, positive reinforcement training, and gentle encouragement will help him continue to grow. A calm, confident canine companion could also help him feel more secure as he learns the ropes.
