**All dogs are by appointment only, please inquire through Petfinder, Adopt-a-pet, Rescueme.org or e-mail us directly at shelter@hbpets.org for the dog's questionnaire*** Hi, I am Spike, I am almost 2yrs old, neutered male, cattle dog mix. I have been searching for my new owner for over 6mths, but I keep getting passed over, so the amazing team who saved me, who helped me become confident again, would like you to know about what they think about me. They say I am extra smart, I am the sweetest boy, I am eager to learn and please, I love activities, I would make the best hiking partner and even a bicycle partner, I love the riding lawnmower, it doesn't scare me, so maybe I could be your lawn mowing partner. I love female dogs and male dogs who are calm, I love car rides. I am not for apartment living or cats and it may take me a minute to warm up, so I am hoping someone has a big heart and will be able to visit me a few times. All I want is a real home and a real family, who will love me as much as this team does!! Maybe that is you?? My adoption fee is $200

Story
Meet Cody 🤍 Cody is a 9-year-old Queensland Heeler with a gentle soul and a heart shaped by deep love. He spent his life with one person, growing up with five cats and another dog, and for the last four years being the only dog in the home. He is calm, mild-mannered, and incredibly sweet. Cody recently lost his owner after walking beside her through a long illness. He stayed with her through treatments and difficult days, and in her final moments, Cody was right there—offering comfort with gentle licks and quiet cuddles until she passed. He is a loyal companion in the truest sense. Cody was raised in a quiet, secluded area of Kelso and, until recently, had only ever lived within a fenced yard. He has just been introduced to a harness and leash and is learning very quickly. While the outside world is new and sometimes overwhelming, Cody is curious, responsive, and making steady progress with gentle guidance. Because his world changed so suddenly, Cody is currently skittish and cautious, especially with loud noises and unfamiliar environments. He also shows some apprehension around other dogs at this time. Any introductions will need to be slow, structured, and patient, with consistency and reassurance as he builds confidence. Cody would thrive in a calm, low-stimulation home with someone who understands that he is grieving and learning many new things at once. He doesn’t need a perfect setup—just patience, routine, and kindness. In return, he offers quiet companionship, deep loyalty, and a presence that feels steady and sincere. If you’re looking for a gentle, soulful dog who is learning the world one step at a time and ready to feel safe again, Cody is waiting 🐾

Story
Taylor 💜 9 months old mixed breed female. Rescued from the shelter and very scared and terrified sweet dog. Fearful of men and no kids best due to her being so timid . Needs a calm place to I've been fostering Taylor for a little under a week. She is AMAZING! So solid with other dogs. She reads their cues so well. She is doing really well with our cats. She wants to play and will chase if they run, but if you have a brave cat, it will be fine. Sleeps out of her crate at night with no trouble. She makes herself comfy out on my chair in the living room for the night. She does not shed. She loves to play with toys, other dogs, her trusted people. She is still fearful of new people. She will growl and curl her lip if she feels cornered. But mostly just a cautious growl otherwise. A quick treat or a walk outside together changes her demeanor pretty quickly. She fear piddles. If something gets loud and startles her or if she feels at all unsure, she might pee. She does not pee when excited. She needs leash work. We are trying but it's going to take a lot of time. She is FAST! Her zoomies are hilarious and she would make an excellent agility dog. She LOVES a car ride. She love belly rubs. She is spayed and UTD on shots, etc. I wouldn't recommend children under 12 and she would really prefer a woman. She will be loyal and follow whomever her person is around faithfully. She loves to lie next to me at the foot of the recliner when I'm still. She will go in her crate. Makes noise at first, but settles especially if a sheet is over it

Story
Lulu just continues to get cuter and cuter. She is the squishiest little bundle of joy who loves giving kisses. She is on the smaller size and while her litter mates sometimes take advantage of that and will stieal a toy or treat, she just carries on playing. There isn't a mean bone in her body. Please note that she may be hard of hearing or deaf - her reaction time to loud noises or movement is often slower than the other puppies.
