Meet Ghost! 🐾With those soulful eyes, wonderfully floppy ears and classic hound-dog good looks, Ghost is pretty hard to resist! This 5-year-old, 32-pound beagle mix recently came to Canine Collective after a change in his family's circumstances meant they could no longer care for him. Having lived in a home, Ghost already knows what it means to be part of a family, and his former owner tells us he's good with kids and other animals.Since arriving, Ghost has been showing us what a sweet, good-natured guy he is. He rode nicely to the vet while sharing the trip with two other dogs and was easy to handle on a slip lead, walking without much pulling. He's also been a very good sport about all the necessary newcomer stuff — including his recent medicated bath, which he handled like a champ. And we're starting to discover some of Ghost's personality! Give this boy a chicken nugget and apparently he believes in saving for a rainy day. He recently carried his nuggets away one by one, dug a hole, tucked them inside and carefully used his nose to bury them for later. At 5, Ghost is past the puppy craziness but still young enough for plenty of walks, sniffing expeditions and adventures with his new family. He's sweet, expressive, curious and just quirky enough to keep you smiling. This petite girl is sweet, affectionate and, as we're quickly discovering, has a very playful side!Hazel can be a little shy when she first meets you. She'll come up looking for attention but may scoot away if she's feeling unsure. Give her a little time to get comfortable, though, and a whole different Hazel starts to emerge. She recently had a blast in the play yard, racing around her volunteer in circles — and this little girl is FAST! Judging by those flying ears and happy face, Hazel was having the time of her life.Hazel is also pretty good on a leash and has done well walking both around the kennel and on an outing to the vet. Chonky is a 6 year old beagle/boxer mix. He is a couch potato, and would love nothing more than to curl up and snuggle all day. He loves to be around people, and will follow you through the house for “moral support.” He has lived with other dogs before, but seems to do best with low energy dogs that give him his personal space. He does not like to be jumped on or wrestled with. He doesn’t do well with cats, but has lived around Guinea pigs and ferrets and seemed very unbothered/disinterested by them. He is a very sweet, loving dog who wants nothing more than to be by your side. Has been around kids his whole life and loves them. A little shy at first, but once he warms up to you he will be your best friend.

Elliot will be 12 in November and has been part of our family along with her sister since they were 14 weeks old. Elliot is a gentle 30lb girl. She loves going for walks and running outside. She loves being pet and cuddling up next to you. She is quite protective and will alert if anyone enters the home/yard, she welcomes people kindly but with caution. Elliot loves playing with her sister and is fine around other animals but generally prefers to keep to herself. She is good with children. We love her very much and this is a hard decision to come to, but we have entered a different season of life as we now have three young children and are having a fourth child this summer - between my husband and I both having full time jobs and parenting we are no longer able to give them the love and attention they deserve. We are hoping they will find a loving home to ideally take them on together as they have been lifelong besties.

Story

This is Maggie, she is the sweetest, laziest dog ever. She loves snuggles and walks, being outside, and hanging with her fam. We adopted her at 12 weeks old from the Fairfield County Animal Shelter before I had my first child. I now have two young kids and due to mental health circumstances, allergies, and time I can no longer give her the life she deserves. She loves being outside more than anything, she goes out probably 10 times a day to just sit and watch the yard. She’s wonderful with my kids, very tolerant, has never growled or nipped, she gets along with other dogs but is very cautious around big dogs, and is great with cats. She can be wary of men but warms up in time. It breaks my heart to have to give her up, but she deserves to be someone’s priority and I just can’t give that to her anymore.

Story

Max is a sweet, loving little guy. Wherever you are he wants to be there too. He likes to play with toys and snuggle on the couch. He goes to the dog park just about every day and enjoys his sniffing while he's there. He must be kept on a leash if he's not in a fenced-in area as he will take off. He has separation anxiety so would do best in a home where someone is around most of the time. We have a home in Ireland where we spend our winters. The two family members who have watched him for us in the past are no longer able to do so. We tried to find someone who could watch him the 3 to 4 months we're gone last year but were unsuccessful and our son stepped up for us. He now lives in a condo that doesn't allow pets.
