Caper is a 4 year old male Beagle mix who is ready to bounce his way into your heart and home! Weighing in at a whopping 30 pounds, this happy waggy lovely boy is a perfect medium size.Caper`s story isn`t a happy one, but it doesn`t stop him from seeing all the good things in life. He was part of a large humane case in which approximately 22 dogs were removed from the worst squalor that you can imagine. Despite these living conditions, Caper apparently never lost hope, his love of life, his love of people, his joy. Caper is social, outgoing, adorable, and unphased by what he has gone through. He loves other dogs and appears to not have a disagreeable bone in his wiggly body. He is active, loves to go for a walk or ten, loves to smell all the smells, and will be an amazing family companion. We believe that he will do well with canine companions (meet and greet required) in typical beagle fashion. We don`t think that he would have any issue with children but would prefer him in a home with kids 8 and up. Cats are an unknown, but he does not seem to be reactive to them, so a dog savvy cat might work out just fine. Considering where he came from, we assume that Caper will need a crash course in house training. While he may well be house trained, living how he was forced to live could have definitely caused him some confusion, so we recommend treating him, initially, as though he is a baby puppy learning for the first time. While basic training was obviously lacking in his last living situation, he is a smart food motivated boy and will catch on quickly. He already does well on a leash, and while staying with us, will get good practice doing all the things!While we don`t absolutely require a fence for Caper, being mostly Beagle means that Caper has a nose with unimaginable talent - which may cause him to be distracted by all the smells around him. Many a beagle dog has been lost from following a scent trail and all of the sudden realizing they don`t know where the heck they are. He is not a dog who is going to be able to be off lead unless heavily supervised, and being `trained to stay in the yard` is not something anyone should put a lot of faith in. A fence is perfect, but if you don`t have one, prepare to make sure that this boy is never allowed to roam free. Caper is just about ready for adoption. Dilly aka Dilly aka Dilly Bar, is a 10 month old Beagle mix boy who is a happy friendly boy. Weighing in at approximately 28 pounds, Dilly is a nice medium sized boy who will fit into just about any household. Dill came from a cruelty situation where around 22 dogs had to be removed from a horrific home and life. It hasn`t phased him a bit - he`s still just a bouncy boy who loves everyone and everything. It is as if he doesn`t even remember the mess that he was rescued from. Which is just as well! You may have noticed that our Dill has a pirate vibe going on - he only has one functional eye! His other eye didn`t develop and gives him a rakish winking look, 24/7. It doesn`t matter to Dilly - he goes through life just like he has two working eyes, and it is likely he was born just like this and has never known any different. It poses no future issues for him, has been fully vet checked, and is just sort of a thing that he has (or doesn`t have, however you want to look at it!). Just remember - he isn`t giving you the stink eye - he just can`t help looking that way! Dill is very social, very friendly, mostly still a puppy boy with his whole wonderful life ahead of him. He seems to enjoy meeting any and all people he comes across without exception. He would do well with kids, seems to like other dogs (meet and greet required), and may even do well with cats if supervised correctly (cats are currently unknown but he doesn`t seem overly reactive to them). While a fence would be outstanding, so long as his family is willing to not allow him to be off lead unsupervised, ever. Anyone who knows Beagles knows that when they smell a smell that gets their interest, they will follow that smell to the ends of the earth - it`s sort of their job. Before they know it, they are hopelessly lost. They need a family dedicated to keeping them safe and sound, fence or no. Because Dilly came from such a terrible place, we are assuming that he will need a bit of work on house training. Even if he was perfectly trained at one point, we imagine that he was confused by how he was forced to live and will need a bit of a refresher. He is very smart and very willing to learn, so we don`t think it will take much time at all if his new family simply pays attention and shows him the way! Basic obedience and things like crate training will also be some of the things that his new family can work with him on - we know he has all the potential to be a super star once someone commits to giving him the life he always deserved! Nutmeg is our slightly shy snuggly 10 month old beagle mix boy. He is likely a brother to Dill, but he isn`t QUITE as outgoing and bouncy - he`s a little bit more of a burrower and cuddler. He weighs in at approximately 25 pounds, so is basically the perfect snuggle size.Nutmeg came from a horrible situation that necessitated the Humane Society removing him and another 20 some dogs from a life of total squalor. Nutmeg is still a happy lovey boy, but it just takes him about 5 minutes longer to get there. He likes to take things one step at a time, and once he realizes all is well, immediately burrows into your lap and gets just as close as he can to you. He loves to be loved. Maybe he isn`t as outwardly enthusiastic as his brother, but he has an innate sweetness that is hard to resist. Nutmeg would do best in a slightly quieter home. Don`t get us wrong - he is still an active playful young man, he just needs a little extra downtime to process all the things around him, so we think a home with lower activity, older kids only, and someone with time to give him the cuddles he craves, would be best. He seems to like other dogs just fine, would likely be fine with kids in general, and while cats are unknown, we think he might be a good match for them. Due to his former living situation, Nutmeg will likely need to work on his house training skills. While he very well may have been house trained at one time, it is reasonable to expect that living in the `home` he was living in has confused him greatly. With a little time and effort, this brilliant boy will get it in no time! Basic obedience has largely been absent in his life, along with crate training and socialization. All of these things are incredibly simple for his new family to accomplish as this is a dog who is more than ready and willing to please.Like most beagles, Nutmeg would do best with a fenced in yard, but it is not required so long as his new family pledges to keep him safe by keeping him on lead. Beagles tend to have a grand time following any scent that seems interesting to them - and that would be MOST scents. Unsupervised, a beagle will soon find themselves lost and wondering how they got that way. This isn`t a dog that will be able to ever reliably be trained to `stay in the yard`.
