Story
I am at Oakland Animal Services in kennel Dog Adoption:13Introducing Jolene! At first glance, Jolene may appear shy and timid, but with a little coaxing and sweet talk, her curiosity blossoms, and she eagerly approaches. Jolene has great leash manners. Once she knows you, she prances gracefully next to you with light, happy skips in her steps which will sure to bring a smile to your face. Off-leash, she’s an absolute sweetheart, gravitating towards her handler to nuzzle into their lap or delicately placing her paws for a friendly sniff. Around 2 years old, Jolene embodies gentleness, taking treats with the utmost care and readily responds to the ‘sit’ cue. A sweet and sensitive young adult, she enjoys just being next to you and thrives on positive reinforcement training, especially when tasty treats are involved. While she may demonstrate submissive tendencies, her potential shines brightly with a bit of guidance and encouragement. Prospective adopters who invest in positive reinforcement obedience training will discover a loyal companion in Jolene. Although older children may be suitable companions, her ideal home would be with patient individuals eager to nurture her growth and confidence. Jolene has met some other dogs at the shelter and while she's polite, she's still navigating the canine social scene. We believe she's still learning the ropes of doggie interactions and could benefit from the company of a confident and social dog in the home. Are you ready to welcome Jolene into your heart and home? Jolene is in foster - follow her adventures on IG @Mountainfosters April 25, 2024, 12:15 pm

Story
I am in a foster home and not at the shelter. If you are interested in adopting, submit an adoption questionnaire by email. Learn more hereMeet Tri Tip! About Me: I'm Tri Tip, the resilient tripod Malinois with a heart of gold! I had a rough start, coming in as a stray after being hit by a car in East Oakland. But thanks to the love and care of my foster parents, I've bounced back stronger than ever. Energetic & Smart: Despite losing a leg, I'm still as energetic and intelligent as they come! I thrive on mental stimulation and love showing off my problem-solving skills. I love exploring the great outdoors and learning new tricks. Sit, down, paw—you name it, I've mastered it! Just watch out, I 'm a crate escape artist, and too much time confined makes me distressed. Affectionate & Loving: Despite my rocky start, I'm a friendly and affectionate pup through and through. I adore cuddles and will happily lay my head on your lap for endless pets and scratches. Ideal Home: I'm searching for a forever home with someone who understands my journey and can provide the love and care I deserve. An active owner who can keep up with my energy and shower me with affection would be paw-fect! While I might not suit young kids, older children might be okay. I can be mouthy when excited, so patience and training are crucial. And don't forget, I might need a little extra help with crate time. Plus, I'll need just as much mental enrichment as physical exercise to keep my clever mind sharp and engaged. Ready to open your heart and home to a pup who's been through it all? Come meet me or follow my adventures with @MarsNMona on Instagram!April 25, 2024, 12:15 pm

Story
Shepherd Mix Age: < 1 yr old Male, Neutered > 30 lbs Adoption Fee: $125 (includes spay/neuter, microchip, vaccinations) Roth came to the shelter as a stray with a serious issue with his pee-pee (paraphimosis). The shelter’s vet did emergency surgery, then called us to rescue him. Unfortunately, the first surgery was unsuccessful (scar tissue closure causing the inability to urinate) so our vet had to go in do another surgery. So far, it is all good, however, he may need another procedure as he gets bigger (if he gets bigger). Given his mix with Chihuahua, he main remain a medium-size dog. Otherwise, Roth is a sweet, happy-go-lucky puppy that is people and dog friendly. He walks on a leash. He will need some training on jumping on people, and a few other puppy manners. Roth needs a home with another playful dog(s), probably close to his size or larger. Potential adopters must own their home with a good size fenced-in backyard. Please note that we don’t adopt any of our dogs out to homes with children under the age of 13. For more information about Roth, contact: nobodysperfektdogs@gmail.com

Story
German Shepherd Age: < 1 yr old Female, Spayed 40 lbs Adoption Fee: Donation (includes spay/neuter, microchip, vaccinations) Cheyanne was brought to the shelter as a very young, small, emaciated puppy with two broken legs (assumably from being hit by a car). Since as a German Shepherd, she had a lot of growing to do, the only viable option was to splint the legs and hope for the best. Fast forward 5 months and her front leg healed pretty well (which is good - front legs are more critical than hind legs for mobility. Unfortunately, we weren’t as lucky with her back leg. The severity of the fractures, impeded the needed bone growth, and the leg ended up shortened. There are ongoing discussions with the vet about whether to amputate that leg. Nobody’s Perfekt Dogs will cover the cost of the amputation, if that happens. Otherwise Cheyanne is a sweet dog that needs a lot of socialization with people. Shepherds are naturally wary of strangers, so continuing her peoples skills is important. She loves all the dogs in her foster home. We don’t put shepherds in homes with cats. A home with another well socialized dog around her size would be ideal. Please note for large breed dogs, we require that potential adopters own their home, with a securely fenced-in backyard. Please note that we don’t adopt any of our dogs out to homes with children under the age of 13. For more information about Cheyanne, contact: nobodysperfektdogs@gmail.com

Story
Jet was my mom’s dog and best furry companion. Unfortunately my mom had some health complications that led to her recent untimely passing. My sister and I both work full time jobs and are unable to give Jet the attention she needs and deserves. Jet is young and needs someone to work with her on basic obedience training (she knows sit, down, and shake). She currently lives with two other large dogs, and knows how to share her toys and read other dog’s body language. She can be leash reactive while on walks and has a prey drive around birds, cats, and reactive small dogs. She would do best with someone who has time to take her on outdoor adventures. She is great on road trips and settles well in the car. She is a goofy girl who wants to be a part of the action, but she’s also ok lounging at home on the couch. She wants nothing more than to love and kiss you, her new best friend.
