Meet Milo! This handsome Border Collie mix went from neglect survivor to professional treat-catcher extraordinaire. Milo was living with dogs, cats, and a chicken in rough conditions, but is now living the good life — mastering “sit,” “shake,” and “snag a treat midair” like a champ. He’s super friendly, good with other dogs, kids, cats and always ready to show off his skills (especially if snacks are involved). Basically, Milo’s the goodest boy with Olympic-level snack reflexes.Milo had to have surgery on his knee and is recovering nicely in a foster home. There, he has proven that he is house-trained and extremely well-mannered. Milo would be an excellent addition to any home! For more information about Milo please fill out an adoption application at www.hsfc.org or contact us at farm@hsfc.org

Blackey truly is the perfect dog. He is smart, obedient, loyal and loves to snuggle. He just turned one year old and is crate, potty trained and leash trained. He is treat motivated which makes a faster learner. Blackey and his siblings were pulled from a high kill shelter in Mississippi after being rescued from a hoarding situation. He loves to go on walks and play with his foster sister and after that he loves to snuggle and take naps with his humans! Blackey takes a little bit of time to warm up, but is a loyal friend once he knows you.  He would do well in a home with older children who will be patient and understand him. He does well with other dogs but can also be happy as an only pup. He is an absolute love bug! Give him some time and he will reward you with love, companionship, devotion and lots of snuggles.Accuracy is not guaranteed; however, information provided is accurate to the best of our knowledge.  For more information on the pet, please send an email to info@aforeverhome.org January 6, 2026, 10:00 pm

Story
Meet Shawna! This girl is pure sunshine wrapped in fur — just look at that smile! Her sweet, expressive eyes and happy-go-lucky grin could melt even the coldest heart. Shawna’s the kind of dog who makes every day brighter just by being in it. She’s a 1-year-old Border Collie/Heeler mix who’s super affectionate, snuggly, and will flash that irresistible grin the moment you rub her belly. Shawna is playful and full of fun, puppy energy. She does great on leash and in the car, making her the perfect little adventure buddy. She’s friendly and loves kids and other dogs, though she’ll need a feline-free home as her instincts may lead her to chase them. Smart as can be, Shawna is already housebroken and eager to please. She’s spayed, up to date on vaccinations, and ready to find her forever family — one that loves smiles, snuggles, and spontaneous tail wags as much as she does!

Story
-ESTIMATE WEIGHT FULL GROWN: lbs -ESTIMATED AGE: 2.4 years old -KNOWN WITH DOGS: Winston LOVES playing with other dogs at the dog park!! He gets along best with female dogs. He does NOT get along with unfixed male dogs. -KNOWN WITH CATS: No experience with cats -KNOWN WITH KIDS: Has been fine with kids, BUT due to some of his herding dog behaviors is recommended for a home with older teens/adults only. -KNOWN HOUSEBREAKING AND/OR CRATING: Winston is housebroken and crate trained! -KNOWN LIKES: Winston LOVES going to the dog park, laying in the sun, going on hikes, and chilling while the family watches movies -KNOWN DISLIKES: Fast introductions to new people in the home. (he's fine outside of the home!) Winston is a great pup, who needs a home comfortable with a dog that is wary around new people! Being part herding breed, his instinct is to nip at someone coming in when they make him nervous. The current family has a great method to keeping everyone safe, but its not a permanent solution from them. Otherwise he's a GREAT companion!!! Notes from the foster: He’s absolutely the best dog! He’s absolutely loyal to those that love him and take care of him. He loves to cuddle and follow you around. Wants to be around you all the time and have fun. He’s perfectly capable of relaxing and watching movie and shows. He loves to go on hikes and to run around. He’s super fast too. His recall is fantastic. I would be hesitant to change his and since he’s super responsive to Winston and Winnie. He’s absolutely not an aggressive dog but when he’s scared or anxious he reacts by nipping which is the boarder collie in him. Winston also loves to lay out in the sun. When you have guests over do a slow introduction. Have him in a crate in a separate room then bring him out. Treats are perfect for introducing him to people. He’s also comfortable with a soft muzzle and pretty calm with it on. Foster Homes Needed! Do you have time and room in your life for a foster dog? http://www.muttloverescue.org/foster.html *****************   Snuggles fetch and food!  What do these things have in common?  Ranger!  These just happen to be his most favorite things!  If you too love puppy snuggles then he’s the guy for you.   After a seemingly never ending game of fetch, Ranger will happily settle down and chill with a chew bone or even better a nap snuggled up next to his favorite person.   Food is up next on his list of faves, which makes him an ideal candidate for training! He loves to learn and picks up new skills so quickly.  All he needs is a new family to continue his education. It’s hard to believe this adorable guy was taken to a shelter in SW VA after being hit by a car and no one claimed him.  After being cleared by a vet he was able to be transferred to Mutts for a chance at a better life!  It’s taken some time for us to really get to know him but after spending quality time in not one, but two foster homes (he’s so popular two foster families are sharing his time!), we’ve discovered what an amazing boy Ranger is! To note, Ranger can be uncomfortable and reactive to some dogs while on leash.  We feel with the right fear free training, time and patience, this can be managed and improved.  Ranger has had some good play sessions with female dogs and was able to coexist in a foster home with calm, female dogs.  At this time it is best for Ranger to live in a single family home with a fenced yard where his interactions around other dogs can be managed.  He is able to go for walks with a plan and lots of treats for distractions.  Trust us when we say this love bug will be worth all the extra effort! Ranger is 40lbs and 2 yrs old.  **BECAUSE OF OUR REQUIREMENT FOR A HOME VISIT, WE ARE ONLY ABLE TO ADOPT TO HOMES IN THE NORTHERN VA / MARYLAND / DC METRO AREA** We have adoption events EVERY SATURDAY from 12-3 p.m. Please note that not all dogs can attend every event, so if you are interested in meeting a particular dog, please complete a no-obligation application on our website at http://www.muttloverescue.org/application.html OR write to adopt@muttloverescue.org. Hi there! My name is Ray, short for 'Radar.'  That is because, you got it, my magnificent, perky ears!  I don't miss a thing!  Especially when I hear the sound of a hand reaching into a bag of my doggie treats.  I love running and playing with my foster sister so I would make a great companion pet. I also love my daily walks. I am working on gaining confidence when I'm out on walks and improving daily.  I do check the boxes for housetrained, dog friendly, kid friendly, all around people friendly and SWEETNESS.  Did I mention I sleep through the night! I warm up quickly when I first meet people and I love cuddles.  I have a heart full of love and wating for that person/family to welcome me into their home. Accuracy is not guaranteed; however, information provided is accurate to the best of our knowledge.  For more information on the pet, please send an email to info@aforeverhome.org December 6, 2025, 10:37 pm

Story
Meet Penelope! This 5-year-old Heeler/Terrier mix has one of the sweetest, most endearing faces you’ll ever see — complete with a perfectly imperfect little smile that could melt anyone’s heart. Her grin might be a bit crooked (her vet thinks she may have had an old injury), but it just adds to her charm and never slows her down. She’s happy, healthy, and full of love to give. Penelope is gentle, well behaved, snuggly, and affectionate — the kind of dog who leans into you for pets and makes you feel instantly at peace. She’s a little shy at first, but once she warms up, she’ll be your most loyal companion and biggest cuddle buddy. She’s very social and does wonderfully with kids, cats, and other dogs. She’s also a smart girl who’s both crate trained and house trained. Penelope is spayed, fully vaccinated, and ready to find her forever family — one that will appreciate her beautiful smile and even more beautiful heart.
