Captain is the perfect combination of playful energy and loyal companionship. He’s full of enthusiasm for life and is always ready to go, whether that means a long walk around the neighborhood or a run if you’re up for it. He loves to play, especially with balls and soft toys, and he’ll happily play with you for as long as the game lasts. When playtime winds down, he shifts into cuddle mode without hesitation. He’s just as happy curled up next to you on the couch as he is following you from room to room, always wanting to be close to his people. He is also an incredibly smart and well-mannered boy. He learns commands quickly, he is 100% house trained with no accidents, and sleeps quietly in his crate through the night. Social and easygoing, Captain’s friendly with all people (adults and children) and enjoys the company of other dogs. He loves making new friends and would be thrilled to have a doggy playmate. Whether you're looking for a walking, hiking, or running partner, or a family searching for a fun-loving and affectionate companion, this sweet boy could be the perfect fit. He has the energy to join in on adventures and the loving personality to become a cherished member of the family. Captain has it all, and he's ready to find his forever home.Accuracy is not guaranteed; however, information provided is accurate to the best of our knowledge.  For more information on the pet, please send an email to info@aforeverhome.org June 22, 2026, 4:49 pm

Story
-ESTIMATE WEIGHT FULL GROWN: 35 lbs -ESTIMATED AGE: Estimated DOB 2/14/2024 -KNOWN WITH DOGS: Great, she seems to love every dog she meets and loves to play with her foster brother. -KNOWN WITH CATS: Good. She was in a temp foster home with cats who she ignored. -KNOWN WITH KIDS: Good -KNOWN CUES: Consistently sits and will usually come when called. -KNOWN HOUSEBREAKING AND/OR CRATING: Crate trained. -KNOWN LIKES: Playing with other dogs and snuggling her favorite people. Tennis balls and really all toys. -KNOWN DISLIKES: Loud sounds and sudden movements, she is slightly timid even with those she loves when there is a lot of movement around her. ABOUT THIS ANIMAL: Persephone is a sweet and friendly dog. She’s a bit shy in new surroundings, and she is still learning how to be confident on leash walks. A home with a fenced yard would be ideal for this gal! She is a perfect medium sized dog. Notes from the foster: We cannot say enough about what a great dog Persephone is, her future adopters will be lucky to have such a wonderful girl! She is one of the sweetest dogs we’ve ever met. She is affectionate and loves to be close to her people, and she has never met a dog she doesn’t like. She has a funny and happy personality and can often be seen jumping over her foster brother if he is in the way! She gets very timid if approached quickly and needs patience to let her acclimate to her surroundings, but after she is comfortable she is a perfect dog. Her pictures do not do her justice, she is super adorable and we think she looks a bit like a red panda! Story
Jett is a gem of a dog. Handsome and happy boy, he gets along well with other dogs and truly loves children. Just 43lbs, he is a young pup who doesn’t quite know his own size but is surprisingly agile when playing. We believe he has reached his full height, but will fill out further since he arrived to us with his ribs showing. Still very young, Jett is remarkably obedient and listens to direction. He already knows Sit and will learn others in no time at all. Tug-of-war, chasing each other, and wrestling are great, but chew toys are his favorite – but honestly, he really enjoys it all. And when the day is done, when he puts his goofy head on your lap and looks at you with his big expressive eyes, you will know you are loved. Foster Homes Needed! Do you have time and room in your life for a foster dog? http://www.muttloverescue.org/foster.html *****************   Snuggles fetch and food!  What do these things have in common?  Ranger!  These just happen to be his most favorite things!  If you too love puppy snuggles then he’s the guy for you.   After a seemingly never ending game of fetch, Ranger will happily settle down and chill with a chew bone or even better a nap snuggled up next to his favorite person.   Food is up next on his list of faves, which makes him an ideal candidate for training! He loves to learn and picks up new skills so quickly.  All he needs is a new family to continue his education. It’s hard to believe this adorable guy was taken to a shelter in SW VA after being hit by a car and no one claimed him.  After being cleared by a vet he was able to be transferred to Mutts for a chance at a better life!  It’s taken some time for us to really get to know him but after spending quality time in not one, but two foster homes (he’s so popular two foster families are sharing his time!), we’ve discovered what an amazing boy Ranger is! To note, Ranger can be uncomfortable and reactive to some dogs while on leash.  We feel with the right fear free training, time and patience, this can be managed and improved.  Ranger has had some good play sessions with female dogs and was able to coexist in a foster home with calm, female dogs.  At this time it is best for Ranger to live in a single family home with a fenced yard where his interactions around other dogs can be managed.  He is able to go for walks with a plan and lots of treats for distractions.  Trust us when we say this love bug will be worth all the extra effort! Ranger is 40lbs and 2 yrs old.  **BECAUSE OF OUR REQUIREMENT FOR A HOME VISIT, WE ARE ONLY ABLE TO ADOPT TO HOMES IN THE NORTHERN VA / MARYLAND / DC METRO AREA** We have adoption events EVERY SATURDAY from 12-3 p.m. Please note that not all dogs can attend every event, so if you are interested in meeting a particular dog, please complete a no-obligation application on our website at http://www.muttloverescue.org/application.html OR write to adopt@muttloverescue.org. Story
Foster Homes Needed! Do you have time and room in your life for a foster dog? http://www.muttloverescue.org/foster.html *****************   Smores is the best little guy and in the perfect little package.  He has mastered the basics of crating, potty training (with regular breaks outside), walks like a dream on a leash, great with other dogs and loves people. And did we mention e a beautiful boy he is too, that cute face and little stub tail that never stops.  He is a foster favorite and great at adjusting, no matter where he lands.  He has had small and extra large playmates and is quick to figure out their play styles.  He loves someone who will play and then nap and play again and did we mention play again.  He would probably like a pet pal and active family to keep him busy.  His toys, oh his toys , such a big part of his day.   He is usually moving them from toy box to a favorite spot outside or inside and back and then back again. With an occasional upside down, roll around with them in his paws.  Say his name and this boy is right there, stub tail going, for good boy accolades and some snuggles.  He lives to be a good boy.  He is young so does need a little guidance when there are new intros or if he still needs to burn off some extra energy.  A little herder traits make an appearance, like a hand grab or circle and jump. But if he gets all he needs for exercise,  he is smart and always listening, it is an easy swap back to the very best boy.  The perfect size at 26 lbs, about 1 years old and up to date on all his medical. Come meet me at the Adoption Center (4000 Burke Station Rd, Fairfax, VA 22032) during our adoption events every Saturday and Sunday from 10am-4pm! No appointment necessary! -ESTIMATE WEIGHT FULL GROWN: 35 lbs -ESTIMATED AGE: 3 years -KNOWN WITH DOGS: good with other dogs -KNOWN WITH CATS: unknown, can have her tested if you are interested in her and have cats. -KNOWN WITH KIDS: Previous owner said good with kids and met a staff member's 9 years old who she was very good with and enjoyed giving her daughter lots of kisses! -KNOWN CUES: will know more soon -KNOWN HOUSEBREAKING AND/OR CRATING: will know more soon -KNOWN LIKES: Attention, playing, being loved on, playing with other dogs. -KNOWN DISLIKES: Hyperactive dogs that do not listen to her cues. ABOUT THIS ANIMAL: Meet Halley – A Blue-Eyed Beauty with a Heart as Beautiful as Her Eyes Some dogs catch your attention from across the room. Halley is one of those dogs. With her stunning blue eyes and striking looks, she's undeniably beautiful. But spend even a few minutes with her, and you'll realize that what makes Halley truly special has nothing to do with her appearance. It's her gentle spirit, her loving heart, and the quiet way she connects with the people around her. At 3 years old, Halley is past the whirlwind puppy stage but still has plenty of life and adventure ahead of her. She loves to be active and would happily join you for walks, hikes, road trips, or whatever adventures the day brings. But unlike many high-energy dogs, Halley balances that playful side with a wonderfully gentle nature. She's just as happy soaking up affection and spending quality time with her favorite people. From what we've seen, Halley appears to do well with other gentle dogs and seems to appreciate canine friends who match her kind, respectful energy. While proper introductions are always important, she has shown us a sweet and social side around other dogs. Halley has the kind of soul that feels familiar, like she's been your friend forever. She leans into pets, enjoys being close to her people, and carries herself with a sweetness that makes everyone who meets her fall a little bit in love. What she wants most isn't anything complicated. Not fancy toys or endless excitement. Just a family to call her own. A soft place to rest her head. A person who will look into those beautiful blue eyes and see the incredible dog waiting behind them. Every day, Halley watches people come and go, hoping that someone will stop long enough to notice more than just her beauty. Because while her eyes may be what first draw you in, it's her heart that will stay with you forever. Halley is ready to trade shelter life for cozy evenings, daily adventures, and a family who will cherish her for the amazing dog she is. She has so much love to give and is patiently waiting for the day she no longer has to wonder where she belongs. Could you be the one to show Halley that home is finally here?
