Story
Current Location: Front Royal, VA Meet Shakira. This six month old, thirty five pound mixed breed beauty is the definition of happy. She is bright, affectionate, and full of life, with a joyful spirit that makes every day feel a little more fun. Shakira loves people. She greets everyone like a long lost friend, often popping up for a hug and covering you in kisses if you let her. She is incredibly affectionate and wants to be part of everything you are doing. Sit on the floor and you will instantly have a cuddle buddy who thinks your face needs a thorough cleaning. She is doing great learning the ropes of home life. She walks well on leash and enjoys getting out for hikes, walks, and new adventures. She rides nicely in the car, making her an easy companion for outings. She is picking up on routines quickly and already understands that gates and crates only open when she is calm and settled. Shakira has a playful, social side and loves other dogs. After a short adjustment, she bonded with her foster siblings and now spends her days running, wrestling, and happily stealing toys like they have always been best friends. She would likely love a home with another playful dog, but she can also entertain herself with toys when needed. She sleeps quietly through the night in her crate, even when other dogs are not crated, and settles nicely when it is time to rest. She enjoys being outside, exploring the yard, and getting involved in whatever project you are working on. Gardening, yard work, or just hanging out, she is all in. Shakira is still a puppy and can get excited, but she is smart and learning quickly. She appears to prefer going potty outside and has had no accidents overnight, though she is still adjusting after transport and a change in routine. This beautiful girl is up for anything. Play, adventure, cuddles, or quiet time. She brings enthusiasm, love, and a whole lot of personality. Someone is going to absolutely adore her, and she is ready to return that love ten times over.

Story
Current Location: Red Lion, PA Meet Mika. This one year old black and white Border Collie mix weighs 47 lbs and is bursting with personality, energy, and heart. She is incredibly sweet, loves attention, and wants to be right in the middle of whatever you are doing. Mika is a high energy girl who will thrive in an active home. She would love a big yard to run and play, or a person who enjoys adventures, walks, and time outdoors. She has that classic smart, busy mind and does best when she has outlets for both her body and her brain. She is social and loving with dogs and kids, though her excitement can lead to jumping, so older children would be the best fit for her. She enjoys playtime and happily engages with other dogs, then settles down nicely once the fun winds down. The shelter shared that she has done well with cats. Mika is still learning the basics of home life. She is working on house training and leash manners and has already made progress in just a short time. She is very smart and eager to learn. In one day, she figured out her feeding routine and now runs right to her crate when it is time to eat. That kind of quick learning will make training both rewarding and fun. She is playful, affectionate, and full of potential. With structure, consistency, and regular activity, Mika will grow into an incredible companion. She is looking for a home that will guide her, keep her engaged, and enjoy all the energy and love she brings. If you are ready for a smart, active, and loving dog who will keep you moving and smiling, Mika is ready to meet you.

Story
Shae is a sweet young lass. She's a big more tentative around new things than her brother, Simon, but warms up quickly. She likes to sit on your lap, in fact, she'd like nothing better than to cuddle on your lap while watching TV.  Shae would like to be your new BFF. As she did not learn about sharing in school, she would do best as an only dog in the household.  Shae comes to us from a shelter in rural southwestern Virginia. Shae and her brother, Simon, as well as their father, were seized from their owner for neglect (starvation). An anonymous donor has become Shae's Guardian Angel, in memory of her wonderful Bosnian street dog, Chloe. Gender:  Female DOB: Approx. 12/1/2023 Current size; 21 pounds PLEASE NOTE:  we only adopt to residents of the DC metro area, which includes DC, Prince Georges and Montgomery Counties in MD, and Arlington, Fairfax, Prince William, and Loudoun Counties in VA. He hasn't seen nearly enough of the world yet and is eager for sniffy walks, romps, and all the adventures his new humans can dream up. To get there, he needs extra patient and loving humans who understand he is a little shy and needs to experience new environments at his pace. A welcoming resident dog will help show him to dog too!   Most of all, he wants to be safe and loved. In exchange he promises so much love and loyalty. What do you say? Is Balt the one you see by your side? What My Foster Says About Me:  Balt is a very sweet boy who is learning all about the fun things that the world offers outside of the shelter. He absolutely loves toys, sleeping on the couch or the dog bed, and playing with friends. He doesn't pull on the leash but will zigzag in front of you because he just wants to sniff all the smells. He gets along great with my moody dog at home, taking her corrections perfectly when she doesn't want to play. Balt has done great with house breaking and crate training. He can be shy at first with people, but after a few minutes, he will come up to you and give you a kisses and a tail wag. So far, he has been a wonderful work from home buddy and is fast asleep on the dog bed next to my computer desk. I know this guy is eager to find his forever family and show them just how much love he has to give.      Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this dog is $460, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations and spay/neuter. Me and my brother Oscar have loved growing up together, but we are each ready to pack our bags and find our very own forever home! I'm looking for a home that will let me play with toys and get my puppy zoomies out and give me snuggles in between playtimes. When I'm a little older, I can't wait to explore my new neighborhood on lots of walks, and I'd really like to make a bunch of doggie friends along the way. Oh, and I should probably take a puppy obedience class or two so I can show you how smart I am.   What do you say? He also really enjoys having his privacy and feels very comfortable in his crate. Outside of the house, he is a very curious explorer who loves being out in nature. He especially enjoys rides to the dog park and taking in all the new sights and smells. It has been a pleasure having him here, and he is truly a wonderful companion.   Puppy Vetting Requirements:        Lucky Puppies have had their age appropriate vaccines, but may not yet be “fully” vaccinated. It is the adopter’s responsibility to ensure that the remaining puppy vaccines are given at the appropriate time. Please also keep in mind that, until your puppy is fully vaccinated, they are at greater risk for illness than an adult dog.      Due to this puppy’s young age, she/he has not yet been spayed or neutered.  As part of the adoption contract, it will be your responsibility, as the adopter, to ensure that this is done no later than July 13, 2026. There are NO EXCEPTIONS and NO EXTENSIONS to this date. A non-refundable spay/neuter deposit will be collected if you would like Lucky Dog to pay for this animal to be spayed/neutered at one of our low cost partner vets.   Your new puppy will need to work on their house training and will also need to go to obedience school so they can grow into a well-socialized dog!  TO ADOPT:       The adoption fee for this puppy is $485, which includes the cost of routine vetting and transport from the shelter.    If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online bit.ly/adoptaluckydog   Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption. Story
Meet Odie — the ultimate Velcro Aussie! If you’re searching for a deeply loyal companion who wants to be your shadow, your sidekick, and your best buddy, this handsome boy might be your perfect match. Odie is a stunning 4‑year‑old, 60‑pound Australian Shepherd with a heart as big as his fluffy coat. He can be a little unsure when faced with new places, people, or experiences, approaching the world with a mix of curiosity and caution. When something feels unfamiliar, he’ll gently retreat to the safety of his foster mom’s legs, but with patience and reassurance, he warms up beautifully. In his foster home, he’s already learned to trust, relax, and enjoy family life. This lovable teddy bear is the definition of a Velcro dog. He adores his foster mom and wants to be by her side as much as possible. He also enjoys snuggling with foster dad, is wonderfully respectful of the resident cat, and is learning how to play with his foster fur‑sisters. In his previous home, he lived with children, cats, and two husky siblings, so he’s no stranger to a full household. Odie is incredibly smart, affectionate, and eager to please. He thrives on human connection and makes sure his people never feel alone. Whether he’s acting as your shadow, your cuddle buddy, or your biggest fan, he’s happiest when he’s included in the rhythm of daily life. He enjoys moderate activity — a nice walk or some yard play is plenty — and then he’s ready to curl up for snuggles. He’s house‑trained, knows a few basic commands, and learns new things quickly… especially if cheese is involved. Odie’s ideal home is one where someone is around most of the day. He bonds deeply and feels most secure when he can be part of the action. Odie loves being surrounded by family, so another dog in the home will keep him company when his humans cannot is a plus, but not a necessity. He’s working hard on crate training, though it’s not his favorite, so a patient adopter who understands his need for closeness will help him thrive. What kind of forever family is Odie hoping for? • A calm, understanding home with patient humans who will guide him through new experiences at his pace. His motto is, “I’ll try it… as long as you’re right here.” • Plenty of time for snuggles, belly rubs, and companionship. • A family who loves a Velcro dog and wants a loyal adventure buddy by their side. If you’re looking for a devoted, loving companion who will follow you anywhere, Odie may be your boy. He’s ready to give his whole heart to the person or family who gives him a safe, steady forever home.

Story
Are you ready to fall in love? Then let us introduce you to Winnie, who is the total package of beauty, brains, and a whole lot of heart! Winnie is estimated to be a 10-to-11 month old Australian Shepherd/Border Collie mix with a stunning red-and-white coat (and some sun bleaching in patches) and a full tail to match her big, warm personality. She weighs 41 pounds, which is a little on the lean side for this active young girl. Winnie is already housebroken, crate trained, and she is picking up her basic obedience commands incredibly fast—she is such a smart little cookie! She walks nicely on leash and rides quietly in the car. Winnie LOVES people and she LOVES other dogs—no shyness here! Winnie has that perfect medium energy level: she’ll happily play in the yard with toys, other dogs, or her humans, then easily transitions into full-on cuddle mode as an oversized lap dog. Winnie will thrive in a home with an active family who will continue her training and maybe even introduce her to new fun activities or dog sports. A fenced yard and a playful dog friend are important, and because of her energy and enthusiasm, a home with kids over 10 is recommended. Winnie has not been exposed to cats. Winnie is ready to grow up with a family who will love her, challenge her, and let her shine. Winnie is fostered near the Raleigh/Durham area in North Carolina. Ready for love? Please consider applying for her at https://aussierescueofthemidatlantic.org/applications-2/.

Story
Oreo is an 11-year-old blue merle, tri Aussie, with a great personality and a beautiful, soft coat. Oreo came to ARMA as an owner surrender due to an overseas move, and he has shown himself to be an absolutely lovely dog while staying in his foster home. Oreo is neutered and has received a clean bill of health from the vet. He is up to date on shots and preventatives and ready to find his forever home. Oreo loves attention and prefers to be very close to his person. When he wants to snuggle, he will very endearingly put both of his paws on you and look deep into your eyes. He especially loves being outside and will happily hang out in the yard while you garden or read. On walks, he is interested in other dogs and people but does not pull on the leash. He is well-behaved on car rides and was delighted to be at the vet for his check-up. Despite being older, he still gets the zoomies and loves to sprint around the backyard occasionally. Oreo prefers not to be confined in a crate or pen, but he is incredibly respectful of house rules. He does not bother the trash can, anything on the counters/tables, or the cats (whom he ignores and does not chase). He gets along well with his foster family’s resident dog and has displayed no resource guarding behavior. Oreo is fully housebroken and has had no accidents with his foster family. Oreo has shown very little interest in toys beyond sometimes chasing a ball around the yard, but he LOVES a snuffle mat, lick mat, or Kong. His favorite treat is peanut butter! He knows his basic commands and would be interested in learning new skills for treats, as he is very food motivated and eager to please. In general, Oreo is a handsome, spry, polite little gentleman with a wonderful temperament. Due to being separated from his original family after 11 years, we believe Oreo would be happiest in a home where someone is around most of the time. While he doesn’t mind other dogs, he does not appear to think of them as playmates--he just really wants to be with people. It should be noted that Oreo can be a little anxious at first, which has led to some spells of anxiety-related barking in his foster home. Redirecting with puzzle toys, lick mats, Kongs, etc. has helped, as does reassuring Oreo and having people speak in a friendly way when approaching him. He was afraid of the stairs when he came to ARMA, but he has since figured them out and does not have any difficulty if the stairs are carpeted/not slippery. Oreo seems to strongly prefer not being left alone and would love to be someone’s daily companion for walks, couch snuggles, gardening, car rides, or whatever other adventures you choose (dog friends/packmates optional). If you are interested in this mature gentleman, please send in an application at https://aussierescueofthemidatlantic.org/apply/
