Story
Hi, I’m Smiley—and I think my name suits me pretty well. If you look closely, you’ll notice my adorable little grin, but it’s my big brown eyes that usually do all the talking. They’ve seen a lot, but they’re still full of hope that my forever family is out there. I’m a 7-year-old Border Collie mix, which means I’m just barely a senior and still have plenty of adventures, walks, and cuddle sessions ahead of me. I can be a little shy when I first meet new people, but if you’ll give me a little patience and let me get to know you at my own pace, I promise you’re in for something really special. Trust is a gift I’d love to share with the right person. Once I know you’re my friend, you’ll discover that I’m the sweetest boy around. I absolutely love snuggling up with my soft, squeaky toys and I’m perfectly happy entertaining myself for a while. But don’t worry—I have plenty of room in my heart for cuddle sessions, kisses, and just being close to my favorite people. I’m a little goofy, a little independent, and a whole lot of lovable. One of my favorite things to do is go for walks. I stroll nicely on a leash without pulling because I’m much more interested in taking my time, sniffing all the wonderful smells, and enjoying the trails. Every walk is a new adventure, and I’d love to have someone to explore the world with. If you already have a dog at home, that’s even better! I absolutely LOVE other dogs and would be thrilled to have a canine buddy to share life with. As for cats, I’m not sure what I’d think since I haven’t met any yet. I’m also healing beautifully. My skin and fur are growing back after recovering from Demodex and a flea allergy, and every day I’m looking and feeling a little better. My outside is catching up to the sweet boy I’ve always been on the inside. All I’m really looking for is someone who believes that the best things in life are worth waiting for. If you’ll give me the time to trust you, I’ll give you my whole heart in return. I can’t wait to meet the person who sees past my shy beginning and discovers the loyal, loving best friend I’ve been waiting to become.

Story
Meet MJ (“Max”)! Max is a handsome 1-year-old Border Collie mix with brains, energy, and a whole lot of love to give! This smart boy is neutered, crate trained, house trained, and eager to learn. He already knows sit, lay down, wait, and stay, and he’s currently mastering spin and place. Max absolutely loves people and gets along wonderfully with other dogs. He’s happiest when he has room to run, play, and frolic in the yard—sometimes with a few excited barks to let everyone know he’s having the best day ever! Because of his herding breed mix and active nature, Max would thrive with an active family and a securely fenced yard where he can safely burn off energy and enjoy outdoor adventures. While Max adores dogs and humans alike, a home without cats is best for him. This young boy is looking for a family that will continue his training, keep his mind busy, and give him the love and exercise he craves. In return, Max will reward you with loyalty, fun, and endless affection. Could Max be the perfect addition to your family?

Story
Shae is a sweet young lass. She's a big more tentative around new things than her brother, Simon, but warms up quickly. She likes to sit on your lap, in fact, she'd like nothing better than to cuddle on your lap while watching TV.  Shae would like to be your new BFF. As she did not learn about sharing in school, she would do best as an only dog in the household.  Shae comes to us from a shelter in rural southwestern Virginia. Shae and her brother, Simon, as well as their father, were seized from their owner for neglect (starvation). An anonymous donor has become Shae's Guardian Angel, in memory of her wonderful Bosnian street dog, Chloe. Gender:  Female DOB: Approx. 12/1/2023 Current size; 21 pounds PLEASE NOTE:  we only adopt to residents of the DC metro area, which includes DC, Prince Georges and Montgomery Counties in MD, and Arlington, Fairfax, Prince William, and Loudoun Counties in VA. Please see our adoption guidelines at  https://spcanova.org/about-us/adoption-policies/. March 12, 2026, 4:34 pm

To learn more about Roxie, please get in touch with dogs@lostdogrescue.org Roxie will be at one of our adoption events this weekend! Visit our event page (https://www.lostdogrescue.org/events/) to see which one—event listings are usually updated on Fridays with attending dogs. Roxie's love language? Belly rubs, head scratches, and quality time! Roxie is a sweet girl whose favorite place in the world is wherever her people are. She hops right into the car, settles in beautifully at home, ignores barking dogs like it's no big deal, and politely asks for more pets by gently placing her paw on you — trust us, you won't be able to say no! The outside world is still a little overwhelming for Roxie, especially loud traffic and busy streets, so she's looking for someone who will help her build confidence at her own pace and gain positive experiences. In return, you'll get one of the sweetest, most loving companions around. She already knows "sit" and "down," takes treats like a lady, and was perfectly behaved during her stay in a volunteer's home. She has also done well both in playgroups at our Rescue Care Center and in the home with other dogs! Professional cuddle enthusiast? Check. Gentle soul? Check. Future best friend? Absolutely! All Roxie needs is a little patience, a lot of love, and someone to show her that life is pretty great. We have a feeling she'll return the favor tenfold. 🐾

Story
Meet Rand! Rand is a compact 9-year-old, 38-pound black tri Australian Shepherd with a full tail, a gentle heart, and a very clear favorite thing in life: other dogs. He is neutered and up to date on all vaccinations. This sweet boy is doing wonderfully in foster care. He is potty trained, eats well, and walks beautifully on leash. Rand is the kind of dog who stays right by your side and never pulls, making neighborhood walks calm and enjoyable. Rand can be a little cautious with new people and sudden noises. He appreciates slow, gentle introductions and is learning to trust more each day. He has even started gently taking treats by hand, which is a lovely sign of his growing confidence. Rand’s personality really shines around other dogs. He is gentle, happy, and relaxed in their company, and his tail wag and smile come out more and more. Morning seems to be his favorite time of day, when he is especially eager to greet his foster parents and start the day! Rand follows his person from room to room and is clearly looking for someone he can quietly bond with. He would do best with a calm, patient owner who will let him move at his own pace and continue building on the progress he has already made. Because other dogs give Rand confidence and joy, we suggest a friendly, well-matched canine companion in his forever home. With the right dog friend and a kind person willing to give him time, Rand is going to be a deeply loyal and very special companion. If you’re an approved ARMA adopter, please reach out to the volunteer with whom you’ve been working. If you’d like to be approved to adopt Rand, please fill out an application on our website: www.aussierescueofthemidatlantic.org.
