Story
Nala was an owner surrender to a shelter in south Texas, so not much is known about her past. She was picked up by an independent rescuer, and Second Start Rescue agreed to take her in. I have been fostering Nala in Magnolia, TX for about a week now. Nala is a timid young pup. She is scared of many things, including loud noises and fast movements. Despite her fear, she has remained the sweetest thing. Her favorite thing to do is snuggle when we are sitting or laying on the couch. She will lay with anyone on the couch for hours. Nala is house trained and crate trained. She even prefers to eat her meals in her crate. Nala has been around children, cats, chickens, as well as other dogs, and has done well with all of them. Nala will do best in a quiet home with patient people and patient pets. She needs people who will love her and show her that the world isn't so scary. She will benefit from a home with another independent dog that can show her the ropes. However, another dog is not necessary - she would do fine being the only pet where she can have all the attention from her people. Nala would do best in a home with older children due to her shyness around noises and quick movements.

Story
Captain is the perfect combination of playful energy and loyal companionship. He’s full of enthusiasm for life and is always ready to go, whether that means a long walk around the neighborhood or a run if you’re up for it. He loves to play, especially with balls and soft toys, and he’ll happily play with you for as long as the game lasts. When playtime winds down, he shifts into cuddle mode without hesitation. He’s just as happy curled up next to you on the couch as he is following you from room to room, always wanting to be close to his people. He is also an incredibly smart and well-mannered boy. He learns commands quickly, he is 100% house trained with no accidents, and sleeps quietly in his crate through the night. Social and easygoing, Captain’s friendly with all people (adults and children) and enjoys the company of other dogs. He loves making new friends and would be thrilled to have a doggy playmate. Whether you're looking for a walking, hiking, or running partner, or a family searching for a fun-loving and affectionate companion, this sweet boy could be the perfect fit. He has the energy to join in on adventures and the loving personality to become a cherished member of the family. Captain has it all, and he's ready to find his forever home.Accuracy is not guaranteed; however, information provided is accurate to the best of our knowledge.  For more information on the pet, please send an email to info@aforeverhome.org June 13, 2026, 3:07 pm

Story
https://foha.org/pet/nelson2021/ Nelson here! My new adoptive family will need to be ready to provide a lot of training which my friends at FOHA will help to coordinate at time of adoption. I can be unpredictable so I am looking for a family with no kids 15 and under. Look deep into my different colored eyes - then get me a ball! I LOVE to play fetch! The second I see a ball or hear you say the word, I'm ready to play. I know how to fetch and I'll bring the ball right back to you and drop it at your feet. I also love water and getting sprayed with a hose! I've been lucky to join doggy social here at FOHA and I have enjoyed playing with other dogs. I love going for walks as I get to know the volunteers and they get to know me. As much as I like new dogs I am not comfortable around a lot of new people. So I would not do well in a dog park or doggie daycare. I'll go ahead and say it, I'm extremely smart. I'm looking for an active family that will put my intelligence to good use. I would love to have a huge fenced in backyard to chase my ball until my heart is content. Apartments and condos will not be a good fit for me. If you would like to come meet me, submit an application and we can set up a time to get to know each other. See you soon!! I am looking for a home with no kids, no cats, house with a large backyard, and an experienced owner willing to work on training. Check out all of the dogs available at Friends of Homeless Animals! https://foha.org/pet-adoption/find-a-dog/

Story
https://foha.org/pet/pelican2022/ Hey there, I'm Pelican, and while I may be a dog, my dreams take flight! I'm a spirited and cheerful fellow, always ready for some fun and games. Among all the activities, soccer is my absolute favorite, and I can't resist a thrilling match with my volunteer friends at FOHA. I've had a taste of home life before, where I shared the space with another dog. Things started off well, but I quickly realized that I might be at my best as the only four-legged companion in the house. If you're looking for an only-dog scenario, count me in! I'm a people-loving pup and have the boundless energy that's typical of a border collie mix. Bonus: I'm super soft to the touch, making cuddle time even better. If you're considering bringing me into your life, I have a special request. I'd thrive in a home with a very experienced owner who's up for working with me on a few behavioral challenges. I'd also do best in a home without children. I'm eager to shower you with love and am more than willing to learn and grow. So, what do you say? Will you be the one to come and meet me and embark on this incredible journey together? I'm waiting to spread my wings and soar with you!

These pups are in Herndon, Virginia too!

Story
Meet Scout! Scout's story is one of resilience, hope, and an unbreakable spirit that refuses to give up despite the hand he has been dealt. This striking young man deserves a chance to show the world exactly who he is — and with the right person beside him, there is absolutely no limit to what he can become. His Story We may not know every detail of Scout's past, but what we do know tells us enough. This handsome boy was failed by the people who should have protected him. Living in a home with two other unneutered, aggressive males, Scout was left to navigate a volatile and stressful environment with no guidance, no security, and no advocate. When his original owner decided he was no longer wanted, his plan was to simply release Scout onto the streets to fend for himself — until a compassionate Good Samaritan stepped in and refused to let that happen. Scout did not ask for any of this. He deserved better from the very beginning. But despite everything, this boy's capacity for love and trust remains beautifully intact — and that speaks volumes about the kind of dog he truly is. Who He Is Scout is a stunning 3-year-old Blue Heeler Australian Cattle Dog whose intelligence, loyalty, and energy are everything you would expect from this remarkable breed. Underneath the uncertainty of his past lies a dog who is: Deeply loving and affectionate toward the people he trusts Incredibly intelligent and eager to learn and grow ️ Calm and devoted once settled — nothing makes him happier than curling up beside you with his head in your lap Resilient and hopeful despite everything life has thrown at him His Energy & Needs ⚡ True to his breed, Scout is bursting with energy and drive. He is not a dog who will be content with a short stroll around the block. Scout needs and deserves: An active lifestyle with vigorous daily exercise and outdoor adventures Mental stimulation — puzzle toys, training sessions, and activities that challenge his brilliant mind A securely fenced yard with high fencing to keep him safe and give him space to run Consistent, structured training from someone who understands and appreciates the Cattle Dog breed Important Considerations Scout has had a difficult road and as a result there are some important things to know: No other dogs — Scout is currently dog reactive and must be the only dog in the home No cats or small animals No small children — his exuberant energy could accidentally knock little ones over ⚠️ Crate trained — though he gets very excited upon release and needs patience and guidance to settle initially ✅ Once calm he is wonderfully relaxed indoors and absolutely thrives on close human companionship What He Needs In An Owner Scout is not the right fit for everyone — and that is perfectly okay. He needs someone truly special: An experienced dog owner who understands high-drive working breeds Someone who is confident, patient, and consistent with training A person who can provide the love and security Scout has always deserved but never truly had An active individual or couple who will embrace an adventurous lifestyle alongside him Someone who sees not just who Scout is today but who he has the potential to become His Current Situation Scout is currently in his third foster home. Through no fault of his own, each placement has been unable to fully meet his physical and mental needs. His current foster cares deeply for him and wants nothing more than to see Scout find the home where he can finally exhale, settle, and truly thrive. He is running out of temporary stops — what Scout needs now more than anything is his permanent place in the world. His Health ✅ Scout is healthy and ready for his next chapter: ✅ Neutered ✅ Heartworm negative ✅ Up to date on all core vaccinations ✅ Housetrained ✅ Crate trained The Bottom Line Scout is not a project — he is a promise. A promise that with the right home, the right lifestyle, and the right human by his side, he will become the most devoted, loving, and remarkable companion you have ever known. He has already survived so much. He has already shown so much grace. All he needs now is one person to believe in him and give him the life he has always deserved. "Without the training and the right lifestyle, the odds are against him — but with them, Scout has every chance of being extraordinary." Are you Scout's person? He has been waiting for you — and he is so ready to finally come home.   Contact foster directly at 703-994-0669 or bkohan2018@hotmail.com as this is a guest posting. Adoption fee: $525, includes first 2 DAPP, bordetella, sterilized, heartworm test, dewormed, flea preventative, microchip   If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application and a representative will get back to you shortly to answer any questions you may have. Story
Meet Your New Best Friend! Jayce is a 3-year-old Brittnay Mix who is looking for his forever home. While he might be a little shy when you first meet him, give him a moment to come out of his shell, and you'll find a funny, bouncy, and deeply loving companion. Jayce is a "paws-on" kind of dog! He is famous for his hugs and will spend his time trying to wrap his paws around you if he isn't already trying to curl up in your lap. He is the perfect blend of a lounge partner and a playmate. Because of his cautious temperament, Jayce has some specific needs to help him feel safe and successful: No Other Dogs: He prefers being the "only child" and can be reactive toward strange dogs. Quiet Environment: He would not enjoy the high-stress environment of a dog park. Patient Humans: He needs an owner who understands he needs to approach new things at his own pace. No Strangers (at first): He can be vocal with people he doesn't know, but his loyalty to his inner circle is unmatched. If you have the patience to let him blossom, you will be rewarded with a level of love and loyalty that only a dog like Jayce can give. He is ready to be your most devoted friend. Jayce's adoption fee is $325 to offset the cost of vetting and help other rescues in need. He is currently located in Georgia and can be transported up to 1400 miles via our Canine Railroad.
