Meet Cashew! Cashew is a 1 year old, 39 lb Boxer mix. He's got the biggest grin, ears up, tongue out, and he is always ready to make friends with anyone who walks by. He was dumped at a park and brought to the shelter. He's put some weight on since, filled out, and showed his goofball personality to his foster right away. Cashew will do anything for a treat, especially a pup cup!! He has greeted crowds of people, including kids, at a few adoption events with a wagging tail and a wiggly body. He is extremely confident and loves his people. His favorite part of the day is going on walks, heading to the park with his foster and playing fetch and tug. Cashew is super smart!! He knows his commands already. He has had a few sessions with a trainer to work on slowing down and self-regulating as well as structured play. He is making amazing progress. Cashew recently recovered from tibial repair surgery on an old leg injury and is now cleared for running, jumping, and normal play. He'd do best with a family ready to keep that training going and would love another dog to play with. A good day for Cashew is a walk, some training, some play, and a long nap after. House trained, crate trained, food motivated, and SO much personality packed into one goofy dog. He's a little older now, but at 6, he's still got plenty of wonderful wigglebutt years ahead. He has become a very popular dog at Houston Boxer Rescue (HBR). He attends our annual Wine Walk and schmoozes the crowd. He also attends the Houston World Series of Dog Shows and is a perfect gentleman! He loves people and gets along well with other dogs. He does not like storms or fireworks; I mean, really, who does? Please consider Hewitt to be your lifelong member. Original Bio: Talk about a transformation. Yep, that was me-I was almost at the rainbow bridge at only 18 months old when a kind person picked me up, and I found myself getting food, medicine, and love. Hi y’all, my name is Hewitt. Can you believe how handsome I am? I had almost forgotten, but yes, I clean up pretty nice. Despite my previous struggles, my foster dad says that I love people, and cuddling is one of my favorite things. I love toys, playing with the resident pup, but sometimes I get a little too excited. Guess it’s just getting used to living the great life. I will let you know when I need to go outside, so just show me the door. I will even get into my crate without any trouble. While I am recovering well from my skin issues, I still need a bath every three to four days, but I promise to be still and not to splish splash. Because I am fur-real looking for a couch to call my own! Honestly, I'm not sure who I love more: other people, or other doggies, but I love meeting new friends, whether they are two-legged or four-legged. I really just cannot wait to meet YOU! I really love going to the park and getting to play and run with the other pups, but I'm also just as happy to lounge around on the couch with you. I really just want my family around so we can all love each other. I'm still learning what kind of toys I like, but I will be sure to get back on here and update you. I am really a lover-boy at heart. I am a world champion at wiggling my whole body with excitement. I'll show you the best of my wiggling abilities every single time you walk through the door and say hello to me again! I also show off my wiggling to new friends; did I mention I love meeting new people? I would really love to be in a home with another dog. I really feel safe and comforted in the presence of a good friend, and possibly future sibling!
