Story
This cat is part of our Silver Paw Pets program, a foster and adoption program for pets who arrive at the ARL after their owner either passed away or was moved to a care facility where they could not take their pet. If you're interested in adopting this pet, please visit the location it's at or reach out if there is contact info listed above. If you'd like to foster this pet or another Silver Paw Pet, please email Mary at mmccarroll@arl-iowa.org. - Stressed around other cats (happiest as the only feline) This cat has shown signs of overstimulation while in the shelter. Lots of handling, playing with hands, and excessive petting can cause them to overstimulate, which can result in scratching and/or biting. This cat is looking for experienced cat owners who will watch this cat's body language while interacting to note signs of overstimulation (tail waving, fur rippling, dilated pupils, ears turned back and quick body movements) and be willing to respect their boundaries. This cat will also benefit from interactive toys such as wands and ball spinners while playing. We are happy to speak with you more when you visit and can provide post-adoption resources. If you can give this cat mental stimulation, patience and space when they need it, please consider adopting! They would love to be your sidekick and buddy for life! All adoptable cats and kittens are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations (rabies and FVRCP as appropriate for their age) Primary Color: Grey Secondary Color: White Weight: 9.19 Age: 1yrs 6mths 3wks

Story
- This cat is available by appointment only. For more information, or to schedule an appointment, please contact Mary at mmccarroll@arl-iowa.org, or Cindy at cgerke@arl-iowa.org ---- This Persian cat came to us from a large breeding situation after the owner passed away. While undeniably beautiful, their early life was very different from that of a typical house cat. - These cats received limited handling and socialization, which means they may be fearful in new environments and around unfamiliar people. They are not naturally outgoing and may take a long time to feel safe in a home. Many may never enjoy being picked up or held, and affection - if it comes at all - will be on their terms. - At intake, several of these cats were severely matted and many were treated for upper respiratory infections, both common in crowded, high-stress breeding environments. They have received veterinary care and grooming, but these experiences may have been stressful and contribute to their sensitivity to handling. - Because of this background, adopters should expect:• A very slow adjustment period, with hiding and avoidance early on• Patience when introducing grooming, carriers, and veterinary care• A relationship built on trust and routine rather than physical affection- These cats have lived with other cats their entire lives, and many may benefit from having a calm, confident feline companion to help them feel more secure and show them the ropes in a home environment. - This cat would do best in a very quiet, predictable home with cat-savvy adopter who understands fearful or under socialized cats and values providing safety and stability over having a cuddly lap cat. While progress may be slow, the right home can help this cat feel safe and thrive in their own way. All adoptable cats and kittens are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations (rabies and FVRCP as appropriate for their age) Primary Color: Grey Secondary Color: White Weight: 4.6 Age: 4yrs 0mths 0wks
