Story
Petunia and Abbey are Bonded Buddies. They'll be adopted as a pair. This cat came from a situation where they did not get the socialization that house cats typically get from a young age. Because of this, they may be fearful in new situations and when meeting new people, may need help getting used to a carrier, and may never enjoy being picked up and held. Since this cat has lived with other cats, they may benefit from having another cat friend to help them build confidence and show them the ropes. You can find more info here about cats from hoarding situations and how to work with them to set them up for success.- May have allergies (more info at ARL)All adoptable cats and kittens are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations (rabies and FVRCP as appropriate for their age) Primary Color: Black Secondary Color: White Weight: 8.3 Age: 1yrs 4mths 0wks

HOW TO ADOPT: This cat is participating in our Shelter Cat Getaway foster program, which gives cats a vacation from the shelter and lets them enjoy home life while they wait to be adopted. To schedule a time to meet this cat, please contact Mary at mmccarroll@arl-iowa.org ---- A very large, loving lady who will win your heart- Will thrive in a more mature home; young, busy children are not a good fit for her- Is not a fan of other animals, and really needs to be the only pet in her new home; if you do have another pet, a VERY slow introduction will be required to set her up for success- Doesn't mind having her tummy rubbed, but will let you know when she has had enough- Looking for a committed adopter who will help her lose some weight- Enjoys being brushed and will benefit from an adopter who will be devoted to brushing her and keeping her looking her best! All adoptable cats and kittens are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations (rabies and FVRCP as appropriate for their age) Primary Color: Tabby Weight: 18.93 Age: 7yrs 3mths 1wks

HOW TO ADOPT: This cat is participating in our Shelter Cat Getaway foster program, which gives cats a vacation from the shelter and lets them enjoy home life while they wait to be adopted. To schedule a time to meet this cat, please contact Mary at mmccarroll@arl-iowa.org ---- Very sweet cat who welcomes attention and wants to be near her humans- Will cuddle up close to you when you sleep- She likes to look out the window to see what is happening outdoors- Her purr is very soft and will start almost the instant you start petting her- Is not a fan of other cats, and will be happiest as your one and only- Young, busy children will likely be too much for her, so she is looking for a more mature home that is calmer - Will be a wonderful friend for a calm, patient person who loves the quiet life just like she does- She will likely be shy when you first bring her home, and will need to be set up in her own quiet room at first, and then gradually allowed to explore the rest of her home at her own pace- She is a cat who will bond closely with her humans, and will be a devoted friend for lifeThis cat can be fearful and may need extra time to adjust to a new home. We've seen good progress here at the ARL, but don't be surprised if it takes several weeks for this cat to become comfortable in a new place. This cat may hide and just observe at first - maybe for quite a while - and that is perfectly normal. Young children are too much for this cat right now, so we are highly recommending a quiet, mature home. We are happy to provide post-adoption resources. If you can give this cat extra time, patience and TLC, please consider adopting! It will be so rewarding to watch them gain confidence and start enjoying all the good things in life! This pet is considered to be in their senior years and may enjoy calmer activities and environments. They may also have medical or behavior needs related to their age. Story
This cat is participating in our Camp Purr working cat program, which is designed for feral or semi-feral cats that would be happiest living outside as working cats. Adopters must provide shelter and food/water to these cats year-round and need to be willing to work with our Camp Purr team to ensure these cats are acclimated appropriately and humanely to their new environment. Because these cats are familiar with the other cats they are living with currently, we require that all Camp Purr cats be adopted with at least one other Camp Purr cat. The adoption fee for each cat in this program is just $25, and all cats have been spayed/neutered, microchipped and vaccinated. HOW TO ADOPT: These cats are available by appointment only to ensure our team has adequate time to assist you. To get started, please answer a few questions here and a Camp Purr Counselor will email you soon. Primary Color: Black Age: 0yrs 11mths 2wks

HOW TO ADOPT: This cat is participating in our Shelter Cat Getaway foster program, which gives cats a vacation from the shelter and lets them enjoy home life while they wait to be adopted. To schedule a time to meet this cat, please contact Mary at mmccarroll@arl-iowa.org ---- A big, handsome guy who greets you with a sweet, little meow- He starts purring as soon as you pet his beautiful, soft coat- He "trills" often, which is so endearing, and he also enjoys a tall sisal rope scratching post- Is mostly a lounger with occasional bursts of energy, and he enjoys batting mouse toys around the room and playing with wand toys- Enjoys looking out the window and being near you, and if you practice yoga or other floor exercises, he wants to keep you company on the mat!!! - Has done well with other cats- Young, busy children are just too much for him, so he is looking for a more mature home, that is on the calmer side- He will do best starting out in his own room for a few days to adjust to his new home - he doesn't hide in his foster home, but he is a little nervous about common household noises - Makes biscuits in his bed to get comfy before lying down - Loves Churu treats This cat has tested positive for feline immunodeficiency virus. FIV attacks the immune system leaving a cat vulnerable to recurrent infections. There currently is no cure for FIV, but infected cats can live fairly normal lives for years. FIV is transmitted through deep bite wounds. Casual contact such as sharing food/water bowls, mutual grooming, etc. is unlikely to spread FIV. However, we recommend that this cat be an only cat or live with other FIV+ cats. More info is on this cat's kennel, but if you have questions, please consult your regular veterinarian before adoption. All adoptable cats and kittens are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations (rabies and FVRCP as appropriate for their age) Primary Color: Buff Weight: 9.4 Age: 3yrs 4mths 1wks
