Meet Darlin Darlin is one of those kittens you notice twice. First, it’s her face. She’s a beautiful tortoiseshell with a coat full of black, warm orange and caramel, plus a little streak of orange running down the center of her face. Then you notice those big golden eyes—and suddenly you’re still looking at her. Darlin is one of three siblings—Dolly, Dean and Darlin—and this is one seriously cool little family. They’re the kind of kittens who remind you just how much personality can fit into a very small package. Darlin is still young, with plenty of growing, playing and discovering ahead of her. She’s ready for the part of her story where the shelter apartment is replaced by a home of her own, with toys to investigate, comfortable places to stretch out and people who get to know exactly who this little tortie grows up to be. She doesn’t need to look like every other kitten. Darlin clearly didn’t get that memo anyway. Story

Jameson believes introductions are best made at shoulder height. Open his apartment door and this handsome boy climbs right onto your shoulders to say hello. Sit on the floor and he’ll join you for rubs, thanking you with head butts, kisses and his delightful little purr-meow. Jameson spent about seven years living in a colony with other cats. When he came to us, his coat was badly matted and needed to be shaved and he needed care for dental issues. His beautiful black coat is growing back and his personality has given us plenty to fall in love with. At the shelter, Jameson is far more interested in the volunteers. He’s quite the ladies’ man, with a charming way of making a short visit feel like something special. He enjoys affection on his terms. After some attention, he’s happy to return to his own space. His person will need to notice when he’s ready for a break, as he may give a gentle nip when overstimulated. Giving him that space is part of getting to know him. Jameson is FIV-positive. FIV affects a cat’s immune system, but many FIV-positive cats enjoy years of good quality life. He’ll need an indoor home, regular veterinary care, and someone attentive to changes in his health. Meet Dolly Some kittens have to work to get your attention. Dolly just has to look at you. Dolly is a four-month-old girl with enormous golden eyes and a beautiful mix of tabby stripes, warm orange patches, and white. But as pretty as she is, the volunteers have discovered something even better about her: Dolly is a purr baby. She’s sweet, playful and apparently believes a good purr is the appropriate response to being loved on. Dolly came to us with her siblings, Dean and Darlin and now this little trio is ready for the next part of their lives. At four months old, Dolly still has plenty of kitten growing, playing and discovering ahead of her—and a whole lot of purring left to do. If you’ve been waiting for a kitten who can win you over before she even says a word, those eyes might do it. And if they don’t? The purr probably will. My name is Dean. I’m also known as Dean Bean and, for reasons you can probably figure out, Houdini. At only four months old, apparently I’ve already earned enough of a reputation to require multiple names. I’m a friendly, playful kitten with a lot to keep me busy. Give me a toy and I’m all in—pouncing, grabbing, wrestling and figuring out exactly how it works. I’m curious about what’s happening around me, too. There’s a whole world out there, and I have every intention of investigating it. I’m also a pretty sweet brother. I enjoy being with my sisters and manage to balance my kitten antics with being a good guy to have around. And then there are these ears. I know. They’re magnificent. I’m still growing into them. At four months old, I don’t have a long life story yet. That’s kind of the point. Most of my story is still waiting to happen. I need a family who understands that adopting a kitten means playtime, exploration, things that mysteriously move from where you left them and occasionally wondering exactly how I got there. Hi, I’m Trixie. When I first arrived at Crestwood Animal Shelter, I wasn’t so sure about this place—or the people in it. I needed time. So they gave it to me. And little by little, I started showing them more of who I am. Now I spend time exploring the cat room and hanging out in the catio, one of my favorite places to watch the world go by. I make my presence known, I let the volunteers pet me and I’m even learning how to play. Yes, learning. Toys are still a relatively new concept. Sometimes I play with them. Sometimes I study them. Sometimes I roll around with one and look ridiculously adorable. I’m figuring it out. The volunteers have loved watching these little pieces of me emerge. And maybe that’s what makes me special: getting to know me isn’t something that happens all at once. There are still firsts waiting for me. My first favorite spot in a home. The first time I come looking for my person. The toy I finally decide is the one. The day I realize I don’t have to wonder what’s next anymore. Because I’m home. I’ve already discovered that life can get pretty good when someone gives you time and lets you find your way. Now I’m ready to discover what comes next. Maybe it’s you.
