Meet Cookie and read what her foster has shared about her. Cookie is nothing short of a wonderful dog. She has a calm and very loving personality, bonds deeply with her people and gives lots of kisses. She loves humans and is always eager to say hello! She's joyfully energetic and channels her energy very well in the house, enjoying rest and nap time after a long walk. She's also very smart and knows "sit", "wait", "leave it" and "paw". Frequent walks and hikes are needed, especially as Cookie loves being outside and exploring. She gets at least 1.5 hours of exercise in a day (walks + running in an enclosed space where she can burn off her energy and get her zoomies out). Every 2-3 days, she goes on a longer walk or hike for 3 to 4 hours. She adores her walks and needs an active and outdoorsy family. Cookie is also fully houstrained. She can totally be trusted when left alone and we allow her to free roam in the house. She sleeps on her dog bed in her crate at night (in the living room), and often hangs out in her crate during the day to be in her own space, when she's not by our side napping or asking for pets and snuggles! Overall, she's a happy pup who really wants to make friends and highly benefits from being socialized with dogs as it seems to boost both her mood and self-confidence. She is especially drawn to her northern breed cousins (huskies and samoyeds, to name a few) and enjoys playtime sessions with them. At times, Cookie can feel a little insecure and may resource guard her person from other dogs, so she will do best with an adopter who understands this behavior and can provide clear boundaries and reassurance. She has strong prey drive so is not good around small animals. While she does well with most dogs outside, she is more selective about dogs in her home when it comes to personality, size, and playfulness. We think Cookie would do well either in a home with a self-confident, energetic dog companion she can play with, or in a single-dog home where her human(s) find opportunities for her to be around other dogs and play. This handsome pup was brought in while still nursing with their Mama, Duchess. Mama dog is listed as a Smooth Collie mix and based on puppy's looks, we feel Dad may have had Akita in the mix. Puppy will likely grow into medium size dog. We have started this little one on their first puppy shots and the litter will go over on 9/29 for spay/neuter. Our staff and volunteers have spent lots of time with the baby to make sure to socialize early. If you would like to start off with a new puppy, come out for a meet-and-greet. This sweet, sweet girl came to us from Turlock Animal Services with five tiny babies she was nursing. She has been an amazing mama and has taken such wonderful care of her puppies. Now that her little ones are growing up, it's time for this loving girl to find a family of her very own! She is very young-probably only about a year old-and is a nice-sized girl weighing approximately 32 pounds. From the moment she arrived, she has been incredibly sweet and affectionate with our staff. She has been such a wonderful guest at the shelter, and we think she is going to make an absolutely wonderful family companion. Because she came to us as a stray, we don't know her complete history, so we haven't had the opportunity to determine how she feels about cats or children. What we do know is that she has shown us what a loving, gentle girl she can be while in our care. She is vaccinated and microchipped and will be spayed before going to her new home. Her adoption fee is $350, which helps us cover the cost of her care while she waits for her forever family. After everything this sweet mama has done for her babies, she deserves a family who will love and spoil her just as much as she has loved and cared for them.
