Five: A Gentle Soul Searching for His Safe Place Five is the kind of dog whose presence is quiet but deeply felt. This 4-year-old Collie mix may not have had much in the way of love or stability in his early life, but he’s making up for it now in a foster home where he’s learning, healing, and beginning to trust. At 45 pounds, he’s the perfect medium-sized companion - gentle, sensitive, and quietly affectionate. Once just a number in a shelter, Five has slowly started to shed his past. He moves through the world with careful steps, especially around new people or unfamiliar situations, but every day brings a little more courage. He shadows his foster family from room to room, not quite ready for constant affection, but clearly drawn to connection. He’s most comfortable when he has another dog around, and he’s wonderfully respectful of cats, simply observing them with calm curiosity. Five is crate trained, nearly housebroken, and especially motivated by food and gentle guidance. He’s not fully confident on leash walks just yet, but he adores time outside in a fenced yard, where he can explore and play in a space that feels safe. Chew toys are a favorite pastime, and he’s learning which ones are his to keep. The ideal home for Five is one that’s peaceful and patient—with adults or older children who understand that building trust takes time. He would love another calm dog to show him the ropes, and a steady routine to help him feel secure. Underneath his initial shyness is a dog who wants to belong, and with the right people, he’ll be the kind of companion whose loyalty runs deep and quiet. Five is already on his way - he just needs someone to walk the rest of the journey with him. If you and the dog are a good match then we'll connect you with our dog's foster parents to chat more in-depth. If both you and the foster agree that the dog is a good fit then a meet and greet is scheduled. We require applicants' dogs to meet ours to ensure they get along. We'll ask you to read and sign our adoption agreement and pay the adoption fee to complete the adoption when it comes time. Our adoption fees help cover the costs of saving more lives! A home visit will be scheduled within one week of your new pet going home with you. The adoption fee for this pet is $375. Our adoption fee covers the following: Spay/neuter Microchip DAPP vaccinations as age-appropriate for the dog. Rabies vaccinations as age-appropriate for the dog. Adopters shall be responsible for all vaccinations after adoption. Please fill out an adoption application by clicking here . Please give us 48 hours to review your application and respond to you. (Remember to check your spam folder for our emails!) We want our pets to go to a lifelong new home, so thank you for your patience during the adoption process! Please email dogs@arrcolorado.org for more information, as we can't accept calls. PLEASE NOTE: The breed listed is the information we've received from the shelter. Shelters usually guess at the breed, so there is no guarantee, as we don't DNA test our foster pets.
