Buck is a 2-year-old Collie x Poodle mix with a heart full of love and a spirit that shines bright. He’s playful, affectionate, and known for his signature move – giving big, wet, sloppy kisses to everyone he meets. Buck came to us through no fault of his own and has shown nothing but sweetness and gratitude since arriving. He’s incredibly smart and gentle and would thrive in a home where he can be the only animal, soaking up all the love and attention he deserves. Story
Meet Kitt! Kitt is an older gal who enjoys gentle human affection, treats, and sweet talk. We suspect she will bond very tightly to her people and be a devoted companion! Kitt has done well playing with other dogs who are her size or larger, but would like to be the only dog in the home. She will do best in a quieter adult household - the energy of young kids might be too much for her! To meet Kitt, please submit an application at chicagocaninerescue.org!

Updated Raiden bio & pics! Hi I’m Raiden, an almost 3 year old, 36 pound, male, Shepherd mix. I’m good with people. I like kids. I’m house trained and crate trained. I love the dogs at my foster home, big and small. Sometimes I can be a little much for the senior, blind guy. Then I just take a break in my crate. I am a no cats kind of pup. So no Felines in my home. If you’re looking for a playful and fun loving guy, I might be your match. Raiden’s adoption fee is $395. If you’re looking for a fun loving guy & are interested in meeting Raiden, then using the menu at the top of the page, click on Adoption Application. Complete & submit your application, which will serve as the basis for a conversation, & you will be contacted. We will make arrangements to meet with prospective adopters for Raiden only after a submitted application has been reviewed & a phone conversation has taken place. ***Please note that we are a foster based group located in the southern suburbs of Chicago. Raiden’s adopter must live in the greater Chicago metropolitan area.***

Story
If you are looking for a sweet, soulful companion in a perfectly portable size, Diego is your guy. With his stunning tri-color coat and expressive eyes, Diego is beautiful inside and out. Despite a rough past, he has remained incredibly resilient and affectionate; his signature move is resting his paws on your chair and bowing his head to ask for ear scratches. He is a devoted shadow who wants nothing more than to be included in every family snuggle, curl up at your feet while you read, or supervise your cooking (just in case a scrap falls on the floor!).Thought to be around 8 yrs old, Diego is the definition of a polite house guest. He is 100% house-trained, signals when he needs to go out, and is so well-behaved that he doesn’t require a crate when left home alone. A homebody, Diego would prefer a quiet home with a yard (or at least a quiet neighborhood). He gets nervous on walks and in new situations and might bark at anything that moves. Being very food-motivated and attentive makes him easy to train. While he is generally quiet and easygoing, he does have a playful, curious side, especially when outdoor smells catch his attention.Diego is looking for a home where he can be loved like he deserves. He would do best in a home without cats and with adults or older children. While he is open to meeting other dogs, with slow introductions, he is currently neutral toward them and focuses mostly on his humans. If you are looking for a loyal, charming, and low-maintenance friend who has handled life’s challenges with total grace, Diego is ready to join your family.Interested in adopting this dog? Visit our website (http://www.SecondCityCanineRescue.org) to fill out an application and to find out where this dog may be shown this weekend. We love our dogs. We want happy lives for all of them and are looking for the home that provides the best fit for each dog’s individual needs. Please understand that there may be multiple families interested in this dog. Also, please know that the breed mix listed is simply a guess. In most cases, we don’t know their background. We encourage you to base your decision on individual personality and pet qualities instead of relying on our guess. Please understand, we only adopt our animals out near the Chicagoland area. Questions? Email us at adoptions@sccrescue.org. Hope to see you become part of the SCCR family!

Story
Indy is a sweet, loving boy who has a few quirks that make finding him the right fit important. He is leash reactive, but very friendly with other dogs off-leash. He currently lives in a home with another dog and they get along great! He loves to jump, so keep the countertops and cabinets clear of food or he WILL eat it. Separation anxiety means he would do best in a home where he won't be alone much, and not in an apartment. He's very healthy and has the softest, fluffiest coat which makes him an ideal cuddler. A huge goof with a silly bark, he can't catch a toy to save his life, forgetting he doesn't have hands. Not a great fit if you don't like kisses, personal space, or wrestling! He would do best in a home with a yard or easy access to outdoor space. Happy to answer any questions you may have!

Story
Current Location: Korea 🇰🇷 ♡ 🧡 Meet Ma-eum A gentle soul learning to love again Ma-eum spent his early years tied outside on a farm, living in fear. He was abused by a male owner and frightened by children who threw balls at him. Because of that, he is still afraid of men, loud playground sounds, and the sight of bouncing toys. But despite all this, Ma-eum has the gentlest heart. For the past two years, he has been living in a patient and loving foster home. He has made slow, steady progress — on his terms — and is now ready for the next chapter of his life. 🧬 Personality Ma-eum is a quiet, thoughtful boy with a soft energy. He feels safest around gentle women with warm voices, and he truly thrives in calm, peaceful homes. He may keep his distance from men indoors, but sometimes shows more courage when outdoors. He isn’t the kind of dog who will run into your arms — but with time and patience, he’ll follow you anywhere. He enjoys peaceful walks, nosework games, gentle pets, and long naps by your side. He doesn't bark much, and he waits quietly when left alone after a short adjustment. 🏡 At Home ✅ House-trained (prefers peeing on vertical surfaces — his foster can provide wall-to-floor pads) ✅ Good with calm dogs (interested and social but may growl at overly excited dogs) ✅ Neutral to cats (no strong prey drive) ✅ Tolerates children (nervous around fast movements but never aggressive) ✅ Excellent in the car ✅ Loves brushing and gentle touch 🚫 Afraid of balls and squeaky toys — he prefers games with treats instead 💛 Ma-eum is looking for… A family who will let him set the pace. Someone who doesn’t expect instant cuddles but understands how meaningful it is when a shy dog chooses to stay close. Ideally, a female adopter or a quiet household with gentle energy. 📦 Foster home can provide pee pad setup 📍 Adoption includes interview & home check 📩 If Ma-eum’s story touched your heart, we’d love to tell you more. He’s been waiting a long time for someone who sees past the fear — and into his true, beautiful heart

Story
Gus is an energetic and sweet dog looking for a home without cats or young children. He loves running, playing chase, snuggling on the couch and his lambchop stuffed toy! In between bouts of energy he is asleep most of the day and can be left alone while his owners are at work. He is housetrained and knows basic commands. He regularly attends a local dog daycare and loves playing with other dogs. He is leash-reactive towards other dogs and sometimes humans when out on walks. Supervision around guests is required as he might jump on and bark at them. Overall, Gus is a loving dog who responds really well to training! Unfortunately he does not get along with our cats and needs to find a loving new home.
