Story
Fenced Yard Required Fostered in SW Missouri (Springfield area) Meet Trixie! This darling 1.5 year old girl is slowly coming out of her shell and showing her true, sweet personality. For most of her life, Trixie was very sheltered. Then a family obtained her, and they loved her very much. But the busy household, daily activities, and active children were overwhelming for Trixie. Her family reached out to us with the hope that we would be able to find her a home where she could relax, live without fear, and thrive. Trixie is a very sweet and gentle girl that needs confidence building activities and slow, continuous socialization. Guiding her through these stress reducing lessons will be made easier since Trixie is food motivated and will gladly sit for a treat. Leash walking is a work in progress and will take a while as she gets nervous about new sounds and new situations. It takes her some time to trust, but once Trixie gains your trust she will want to stay near you and enjoy all the cuddling and petting you have to offer. She will also seek reassurance from her person when she gets a bit unsure or anxious. This girl is young and playful. She will entertain herself with toys; she will even bring you a shoe or a slipper just in case you need one. She also likes to carry her toys around the house and leave them in various locations. Being young, she still likes to chew on Nylabones so she will need to be supervised or crated when not watched. Still a puppy at heart, she likes to run and play with other dogs and needs to learn proper play manners. She is a little overwhelming for older dogs and gets too wild when playing with young ones. Trixie would be fine with a mild mannered, patient dog, but we also believe she would be fine as an only dog too. What she needs most is a patient family that will take things slowly and guide her through the adjustment period and the learning process. Because Trixie is easily startled, a fenced in yard is required. It will allow her to run around and play safely. This lovely, deserving girl is looking for a calm, understanding forever home where she will be loved and cherished. She will in turn repay you in collie kisses! Story
Are you ready to welcome the cutest bundle of fluff you've ever seen in your life? Meet Puppy, a 1-year-old chow chow, collie, golden retriever mix who was found terrified and roaming the streets of the South before SCCR took him in. He may have had a rocky start, but let us assure you, he's come a loooong way since then.Puppy's got a strategy when it comes to meeting humans. Step 1: approach them with a wagging tail and inquisitive sniffs. Step 2: assess the situation, and if a petting hand approaches, execute an expert retreat! Step 3: entice humans to dispense treats in exchange for trust. Step 4: allow special Puppy belly rub (with his foster parents, he's become a belly-rub connoisseur, with a hint of reluctance and a dramatic flair.) Who knew belly rubs could be both a pleasure and an art form?Let's talk about Puppy's skills. He's like a treat-seeking missile, guided by the invisible scent trails of his favorite snacks. He knows his commands - sit, leave it, and touch - and if you wave a treat, he'll be happy to give you a show. He's playful, too; he loves squeaky toys and a good dog wrestle! Puppy does well with all kinds of dogs, as long as they're not too "in his face." In fact, he'd love a home with a fenced-in yard and a confident doggie sibling who can continue to show him the ropes as he grows up. His best bud & foster brother Jaxson can vouch for this. They're like the canine version of dynamic duo, causing double trouble and playing all day long in the yard.Puppy might not be a cuddler (yet!), but he's got ways to show he cares. Waiting outside the bathroom? Check. Tail wagging with enthusiasm? Double check. And the grand finale - letting you pet him and rub his belly without a disappearing act. Bravo! We're looking for a special kind of human for Puppy, someone with a quiet home (probably no small children) who understands that building trust takes patience, time and treats (mostly treats, though). Puppy's journey to normalizing his fears is a tale of triumph waiting for its final chapter. So, if you've got a bit of a doggy whisperer in you, and a love for treats that rivals his own, then you might just be the hero this fluffy adventurer is looking for!PLEASE NOTE: Puppy does have an abnormal gait that he currently manages well without any medication or pain. Anyone interested in Puppy should apply and speak to our medical team for his medical history and records.Interested in adopting this dog? Visit our website (http://www.SecondCityCanineRescue.org) to fill out an application and to find out where this dog may be shown this weekend. We love our dogs. We want happy lives for all of them and are looking for the home that provides the best fit for each dog's individual needs. Please understand that there may be multiple families interested in this dog. Also, please know that the breed mix listed is simply a guess. In most cases, we don't know their background. We encourage you to base your decision on individual personality and pet qualities instead of relying on our guess. Please understand, we only adopt our animals out near the Chicagoland area. Story
We first introduced you to Doyle, a 1-year-old collie back in January. He was just starting to come out of his shell and we knew he would just blossom once in a home and guess what...he is! Doyle went into foster with one of our amazing volunteers and they confirmed that he is. He does great with other dogs and is getting more and more playful. Doyle would benefit most from another social dog around to help him continue to come out of his shell. He is pretty much house trained just needs some coaxing sometimes to go out. He is still frightened of loud or sudden noises. Doyle loves to go for walks, once coaxed out the door. He is also crate trained. He's getting more and more affectionate...once he knows you.

These pups are in Aurora, Illinois too!

Story
Hi there, my name is Vanessa and I'm about 10 months old. I'm a really pretty young gal. If you have seen my pictures my coat is a reversed brindle. My Rescuers are guessing at my breed because sadly when I was found as a stray, I had no history about me. So, if you had to guess my breeding I'm a Cattle dog maybe mixed with Pitbull. What does that mean? I'm your All-American Mutt but I'm a smart All-American Mutt. As I mentioned I was found as a stray. I didn't know where my home was, so the AC Handlers brought me to a TN shelter. From there, I went on a van that they call the Freedom Ride. It's where a bunch of doggies and kitties drive for like forever up North. I saw my foster Mom when she opened the van, and I wasn't scared. I knew right then I my future is going to be much better than what I had in TN. I'm in a foster home that has other foster dogs that are close to my age or size, and we play all day long. We sleep in our own crates and I'm a good girl and don't make a mess. I will give out a yip or a bark when I need to go potty. I love getting my food in my crate and I look for more when the other dogs are done. Who would have thought being a foster doggie I would be so pampered. Speaking of being pampered, my foster Mom took me to the doggie vet and I woo-ed everyone. They thought I had a really pretty coat and they thought I was silly when I gave them kisses or did tricks for my treats. I know SIT and give PAW. My best command is "Vanessa, be pretty". Gees, that's a no brainer. I had to take a test that my doggie vet did for me and sadly the test results said I'm heartworm positive. My foster Mom said, "it's not our first time" and she made sure I went to all my doggie doctor visits for shots. I'm now all done with my heart worm treatment and the next part is for me to just chill. Sure, I'm a puppy and I get my occasional zoomies but I'm a chill gal. I like to lounge around on the couch or by your feet. I get to play with all the doggies here and there's cats too. I ignore the cats. I watch the other dogs get into their food or litterbox but not me - I rather play with dogs or my own toys. I love playing with a ball or a stuffed animal. I don't think I had any of those great toys when I lived in TN. I've been around kids and oh boy, do I like them. One day I am going to have a forever family of my own. While I wait for my family I will play with the other dogs and learn new things. I'm sure I'm going to get cuter. I weigh 42# now so I might grow up to be a medium-large size girl. Some might call that stocky. When I meet my forever family we can go for a walk, and I will show how well I listen and walk on a leash. Maybe when you bring me to your house, I will have my own doggie bed, or I can curl up on your lap when you watch TV. I will always be your loyal pup because you chose me and I promise to make you laugh. Can't wait to meet you! Vanessa Vanessa's heartworm: She completed the heart worm protocol of injections & medication. Now, she just needs to be on low activity for 3-6 months. Easy for this girl because she's not very active unless of course you give her belly rubs! Please do not stop Vanessa's heartworm prognosis stop you from adopting this amazing Beauty. Itsy is located in our foster home in Aurora. To meet Itsy, please complete an adoption application at: https://treasuredanimalrescueinc.org/application-dog-adoption/ Sorry, Treasured Animal Rescue does not adopt out of the State of Illinois Thank you for choosing to adopt! Story
Macho is a sweet and smart 2 year old 50 lb red heeler mix in need of a loving fur-ever home! He is crate and potty trained, but is still working on queues as to show when he needs to go out. He sleeps wonderfully in his crate at night with no issues. He would thrive the best with a family who has someone home with him most of the time to give lots of snuggles, attention and play time. Even a fur-sibling would make him a happy boy! A big, fenced in back yard with room to run and play would be ideal. Macho is wonderful with everyone that he meets, people and other dogs alike. He would be best suited in a home without kids under the age of 4, as he isn’t quite sure what to make of them. He is also great in the car and loves car rides! Macho stole our hearts with his sweet, loving nature but our home with a toddler and lack of a large play space is allowing us to find him a better suited home for his needs. This dog is altered and up to date on shots. If you would like to meet this dog please call Teri at 630-897-7454. The adoption fee is $225. Adoption fee includes: - microchip - spay/neuter - age appropriate vaccinations: Bordetella, DH(L)PP, rabies - heartworm preventive & flea/tick preventive - deworming
