Story
If you are looking for a sweet, soulful companion in a perfectly portable size, Diego is your guy. With his stunning tri-color coat and expressive eyes, Diego is beautiful inside and out. Despite a rough past, he has remained incredibly resilient and affectionate; his signature move is resting his paws on your chair and bowing his head to ask for ear scratches. He is a devoted shadow who wants nothing more than to be included in every family snuggle, curl up at your feet while you read, or supervise your cooking (just in case a scrap falls on the floor!).Thought to be around 8 yrs old, Diego is the definition of a polite house guest. He is 100% house-trained, signals when he needs to go out, and is so well-behaved that he doesn’t require a crate when left home alone. A homebody, Diego would prefer a quiet home with a yard (or at least a quiet neighborhood). He gets nervous on walks and in new situations and might bark at anything that moves. Being very food-motivated and attentive makes him easy to train. While he is generally quiet and easygoing, he does have a playful, curious side, especially when outdoor smells catch his attention.Diego is looking for a home where he can be loved like he deserves. He would do best in a home without cats and with adults or older children. While he is open to meeting other dogs, with slow introductions, he is currently neutral toward them and focuses mostly on his humans. If you are looking for a loyal, charming, and low-maintenance friend who has handled life’s challenges with total grace, Diego is ready to join your family.Interested in adopting this dog? Visit our website (http://www.SecondCityCanineRescue.org) to fill out an application and to find out where this dog may be shown this weekend. We love our dogs. We want happy lives for all of them and are looking for the home that provides the best fit for each dog’s individual needs. Please understand that there may be multiple families interested in this dog. Also, please know that the breed mix listed is simply a guess. In most cases, we don’t know their background. We encourage you to base your decision on individual personality and pet qualities instead of relying on our guess. Please understand, we only adopt our animals out near the Chicagoland area. Questions? Email us at adoptions@sccrescue.org. Hope to see you become part of the SCCR family!

Story
Hi, I'm Olivia! Thanks for checking me out! I know my cute face is hard to resist, but here's the scoop: I'll need a lot of your time and attention as I grow up into the amazing adult dog I'm destined to be! I'm looking for a forever family that will help me with socialization, training (yes, that includes house training!), and plenty of exercise. And let's not forget the chewing and teething-I'm still learning what's okay (and what's definitely not okay) to put in my mouth. So, be ready for some puppy-proofing! Don't forget those vet visits! I'll need to stay up to date on my boosters and vaccines, which means a few trips to see my favorite vet in the first few months. But trust me, all that effort will be worth it when you experience the endless love, puppy kisses, and pure joy I'll bring into your life. So, if you're up for the challenge and the fun, why not come meet me in person? Stop by during our adoption hours. For more details, email info@ahconnects.org or give us a call at 847-697-2880 x: 0. The friendly folks here will be happy to answer all your questions! Can't wait to meet you and start our adventure together! All of our dogs and puppies go home spayed or neutered, microchipped, and heartworm tested (for dogs 7 months and older). They are also up to date on core vaccines, as well as heartworm, flea, and tick preventatives. Each adoption includes a 3.5-pound bag of dog or puppy food and a free vet exam at one of our participating veterinary partners.

Good with dogs, Not good with cats, House-trained, Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Bada’s journey is one of resilience, joy, and second chances. This lovable pup came all the way from Korea, where he arrived to our partner rescue with a fractured front leg. Unfortunately, the injury became infected due to the extreme heat and humidity, but they knew we couldn’t leave him behind. After rescuing him, it was discovered that his bone had healed improperly, and Bada needed surgery to correct it. Now, after a successful recovery, Bada is living it up in Illinois as a happy, healthy dog who’s ready to leap, run, and enjoy life to the fullest! Bada has a bright, outgoing personality and is full of energy. He’s not shy about anything—he’s all about making new friends and jumping right into playtime! Whether it's chasing after a ball or running around with a fellow dog, Bada is always up for some fun. His exuberance and excitement are contagious! This sweet boy has a friendly nature that makes him warm up quickly to people. Bada is best suited for a home with energetic and playful dogs who can match his playful pace, as he can be a bit too much for more laid-back pups. If you’re looking for a fun-loving, joyful dog who’s ready to shower you with affection and never stops running with joy, Bada is your guy! His past may have been tough, but he’s ready to move forward with a loving family who can match his energy and give him the forever home he deserves. Ready to welcome Bada into your home? He flew across the world just for you! Hear what Bada's foster has had to say about him! "Bada seldom barks. He appears to be completely housebroken. There are have been no toileting accidents. He is a very calm spirit and seems perfectly happy just laying at your feet while you are working. He has interacted quite well on two play dates and was observed to initiate play with a somewhat smaller dog. Treats have been inadvertently left in accessible places and he has not bothered them. Leash manners need some work but was better with a no pull harness."

Australian Cattle Dog Terrier (Unknown Type, Medium)

Female, 1 yr 5 mos
Northbrook, IL
Size
(when grown) Med. 26-60 lbs (12-27 kg)
Details
Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Peach is an extremely affectionate, loving, and people-oriented dog who thrives on connection and closeness. She loves to cuddle, happily plays with toys on her own, and has recently learned how to play tug-of-war. She is naturally curious and likes to be involved in everything you do—often acting as your little shadow—while remaining very alert, responsive, and intelligent. She picks up on commands quickly and clearly understands expectations such as sit, stay, and wait. She gets genuinely excited when you walk into a room and may jump up to greet you, so she benefits from gentle reminders to calm down. She is still learning how to self-regulate her excitement, especially around walks or tasks she enjoys, as she tends to get very enthusiastic and move quickly. That said, she is already making great progress with slowing down and focusing when guided. Once she has had adequate activity and mental stimulation, she settles beautifully. She enjoys long, quiet naps and becomes calm and independent. At night, she sleeps soundly in her crate in the bedroom for eight uninterrupted hours and is fully crate trained. During the day, she reliably walks to the door when she needs to go outside for bowel movements and urination. Pee pads were used briefly as a backup, but she showed noticeable improvement after the first day. She absolutely loves people and other dogs, and responds warmly to affection and attention. She would benefit from continued reinforcement with greeting manners and leash walking, though both areas are already improving significantly. Like any young dog, she has puppy energy, but her behaviors respond very well to consistent training and structure. She learned many positive behaviors by observing and playing with a husky and a lab and clearly enjoys canine companionship. Overall, her energy level is medium, though it may seem higher when compared to more laid-back dogs—especially when her playmates include a husky. With continued training and engagement, she is shaping up to be an exceptionally loving, well-balanced, and intelligent companion.

Story
Meet Gatsby! This handsome 1-year-old male Cattle Dog is full of potential and ready for his next big adventure — a forever home! Gatsby came to us from out of state, and he's now looking for a family who understands the needs of his smart, energetic breed. Gatsby is a beautiful boy with a sharp mind and a loving heart. Like many Cattle Dogs, he thrives on activity and purpose. He’ll do best in a home where he can get plenty of exercise, mental stimulation, and positive engagement. Whether it’s hiking, agility, or learning new tricks, Gatsby is eager to be your active companion. If you’re looking for a loyal partner who will keep you on your toes and fill your days with joy, Gatsby might be the perfect fit. Could you be the one to give this sweet boy the life he deserves? From his foster: "Gatsby is a bright, loyal, and endlessly curious 1-year-old pup who’s made incredible progress in just a short time! Like many working breeds, he has a lot of energy, but with routine, structure, and training, he’s thriving. He’s really proud of himself when he gets things right, and it’s a joy to watch him light up and nail it! He is such a smart boy and is soaking up his training—nailing basic commands & recall, improving on leash daily, and gaining confidence with every new experience. In true Cattle Dog fashion, he's observant and highly attuned to his environment, and he's learning how to focus that instinct in healthy, productive ways. He can be alert and vocal when strangers approach, but we're helping him learn when to bark and when to relax. He loves mental enrichment (puzzle toys, frozen treats, and tug-of-war are favorites), clear communication, and praise! Gatsby is house trained and communicative. He’ll let you know when he needs to go out or when his water bowl is running low. He does great in the car and settles in easily for rides. We’re working on building his confidence when left home alone through gradual departures and a consistent routine. He can be vocal at first, but relaxes pretty quickly. While he handles city walks well, Gatsby really comes alive when he has a yard or nature to explore - this is where you really see his working breed instincts shine. He gets along well with my small dog and he’d also likely thrive with a confident, playful dog his size to show him the ropes. He appreciates a proper introduction to both dogs and humans (treats are the fastest way to his heart). And if you're wondering—yes, Gatsby turns heads! We get stopped daily by people asking what breed he is and commenting on his handsome look. Gatsby is a truly special dog with endless potential. He’s a total sweetheart at heart—a loyal shadow who loves to curl up at my feet and have my attention. With a little time, a lot of love, and continued support (training, agility classes, outdoor time), he's going to be the most loyal companion you could ask for!"
