Story
Meet this sweet seven-month-old rescue pup, Scout, who is ready to find a forever home. Currently in foster care, he has a gentle nature, enjoys playing with bouncy balls and stuffies, cuddling and fetching. Scout is definitely a mix breed pup, maybe with some Collie or Shepherd in him Scout loves to be near people, relaxing on the couch and going on walks. He really likes dogs about his size or smaller. He is friendly but shy with big dogs.  He is potty trained and learning which toys are his. He does well in a crate. Scout is an all around easy going sweet puppy who would fit well in most homes :). Story
Bonnie is a beautiful mixed breed/collie who is about 2 years old and around 40-45lbs. She had 7 puppies at our shelter and is now looking for her own perfect home! She is a sweetheart, who loves to carefully jump up on you for hugs and attention. She is incredibly smart and agile and would love a home to keep her active and enriched! She does take longer to get used to some men so a slow and patient home is needed. She is dog friendly and kid friendly. Once she bonds to people she does have the tendency to resource guard them so we are looking for a home with previous experience dealing with any potential guarding issues. Due to resource guarding we are marking her for households with children over 12 yrs of age. She seems to enjoy other dogs at the shelter, but due to her small animal prey drive, will need a home without cats or small pets.

Story
Meet Coco- a dashing 4-year-old Collie/Shepherd/Terrier type mix who came to us after being surrendered to another shelter. He weighs in around 35lbs, though is a bit skinny, so will likely even out around 38lbs. He is a playful and fun guy, who enjoys walks and running around outside. He's an active dog and doesn't mind wading in his kiddie pool! Coco is a bit selective with his dog friends and has done best with submissive females. Coco walks well on a harness and is very curious about exploring his surroundings. He can be nervous meeting new people and will need slow introductions. He has been moved around quite a bit recently, so we would love to get him back in a home!

Story
If you are looking for a sweet, soulful companion in a perfectly portable size, Diego is your guy. With his stunning tri-color coat and expressive eyes, Diego is beautiful inside and out. Despite a rough past, he has remained incredibly resilient and affectionate; his signature move is resting his paws on your chair and bowing his head to ask for ear scratches. He is a devoted shadow who wants nothing more than to be included in every family snuggle, curl up at your feet while you read, or supervise your cooking (just in case a scrap falls on the floor!).Thought to be around 8 yrs old, Diego is the definition of a polite house guest. He is 100% house-trained, signals when he needs to go out, and is so well-behaved that he doesn’t require a crate when left home alone. A homebody, Diego would prefer a quiet home with a yard (or at least a quiet neighborhood). He gets nervous on walks and in new situations and might bark at anything that moves. Being very food-motivated and attentive makes him easy to train. While he is generally quiet and easygoing, he does have a playful, curious side, especially when outdoor smells catch his attention.Diego is looking for a home where he can be loved like he deserves. He would do best in a home without cats and with adults or older children. While he is open to meeting other dogs, with slow introductions, he is currently neutral toward them and focuses mostly on his humans. If you are looking for a loyal, charming, and low-maintenance friend who has handled life’s challenges with total grace, Diego is ready to join your family.Interested in adopting this dog? Visit our website (http://www.SecondCityCanineRescue.org) to fill out an application and to find out where this dog may be shown this weekend. We love our dogs. We want happy lives for all of them and are looking for the home that provides the best fit for each dog’s individual needs. Please understand that there may be multiple families interested in this dog. Also, please know that the breed mix listed is simply a guess. In most cases, we don’t know their background. We encourage you to base your decision on individual personality and pet qualities instead of relying on our guess. Please understand, we only adopt our animals out near the Chicagoland area. Story
Cosmo: The Freckle-Pawed, Big-Smile Pup Ready for Forever! Hi. I’m Cosmo. Black-and-white cutie. Giant grin. Radar ears. Polka-dot paws. I get a lot of compliments. I came out of a shelter in Georgia, but everything changed when I got rescued. Now I’m safe. I’m loved. I’m ready to find a real family who wants a best friend. I’m about 24 pounds now, and even when I fill out, I’ll probably stay in the 30 to 40 pound range. That’s small enough for your lap but sturdy enough for your adventures. People say I might be a mix of fox terrier, cattle dog, and pointer. That means I’m smart, loyal, playful, and curious. I’m young and still figuring things out. I love to explore, I love people, and I’m clean in my kennel. I used to panic on the leash and flop around like I was in a drama class, but I’ve gotten way better. These days, I just want to go out and sniff the world. With other dogs, I bring the party. I’ve got puppy energy and I play hard. Some dogs love it. Others tell me to chill, and I don’t always pick up on that right away. I do best when someone steps in and gives me a reset. I don’t mean harm. I just get excited. Cats? Yeah, I’m not the best match for them. Sometimes new stuff makes me nervous, especially the vet or being crated. I can get mouthy when I feel trapped. But when I know I’m safe, I settle right in and show my soft side. What I need is someone with a kind heart and a strong voice. Someone who will help me stay busy and teach me how to be the best version of me. If you’re the kind of person who sees potential and sticks around to see it bloom, we might be meant for each other. So, who wants a forever friend that’s fun, loyal, full of life, and pretty easy on the eyes? I’m right here, waiting. ##2510854##

Ziggy Zaggy Zoom Here – Certified Cuddle Pro & Snack Enthusiast   Hey there, I’m Ziggy, 4½ years old, 29 pounds of cattle dog mix perfection, and currently accepting applications for my human. I’m a calm, gentle guy with a heart that’s all gold and a little goofy. I love naps, snacks, and long cuddle sessions, pretty much the holy trinity of happiness. My foster says I’m food-motivated (translation: I’ll do anything for treats), and I'm a champ at leash walking, sitting on cammand, and lying down! Smart boy that I am.  I get along great with cats, and older chill dogs - the kind that don’t get all up in my face. Puppies? Hard pass. But if you’ve got a wise older buddy, I’ll gladly learn the ropes. My foster brother recently taught me how to conquer stairs, and that was a big win for me. I’d do best in a calm home with older kids and not a lot of surprise guests. I’m not about that revolving-door lifestyle. I like peace, predictability, and people who get me. I need a home with a fenced yard (my current carer says this is an absolute must).  If you’re looking for a loyal lap dog who’s all heart and no drama, that’s me. I’ve got love to give, a couch to share, and a forever to look forward to. So, what do you say? Wanna Zoom with Ziggy? ##2510857##

Story
Merrick is truly something special! At just over a year old, Merrick is a 45-pound Australian Cattle Dog with a heart as big as his potential. This handsome boy is smart, affectionate, and ready to find a forever home that will embrace him—just as he is. Due to old leg injuries, Merrick can’t live an active lifestyle, but that doesn’t dull his shine. He’ll need a caring foster or adopter who can help manage his mobility with gentle at-home treatments like red light and massage therapy, along with pain medication on days he needs extra support. But don’t let that fool you—his spirit is as bright and loving as ever. Merrick may not run marathons, but he will run straight into your heart. He's a total gentleman—calm, friendly, and soaking up the love from everyone he met. He’s crate trained, has a medium energy level, and enjoys peaceful companionship over chaos. That is why we recommend no kids. He gets along great with calm dogs, and although he hasn’t been cat-tested yet, his sweet and gentle nature suggests he could do well with the right introduction. he definiteyl gets along with small dogs - see his photos. Merrick is loyal, intelligent, and deeply people-focused, a true best friend in the making. All he needs is someone to see past his physical limitations and recognize the perfect companion waiting beneath. He may need a little extra care, but in return, you’ll get a lot of love. Looking for a loyal, laid-back lovebug to share your life with? Merrick is ready to meet you. A generous donor heard of Merrick's story and has offered to help sponsor Merrick's adoption fee. We are thrilled to announce that if you adopt Merrick, your adoption fee is reduced to $250. Sweet Merrick is ready for a loving home! Apply today. Fully vetted, neutered, vaccinated, and house-trained Professionally trained in basics (sit, stay, walking on leash, etc) – includes 1 FREE trainer session at trainer's location for adopters Foster-to-adopt option available – all costs during fostering are covered by us - food, medical, etc ##2248587##
