Story
Bonnie is a beautiful mixed breed/collie who is about 2 years old and around 40-45lbs. She had 7 puppies at our shelter and is now looking for her own perfect home! She is a sweetheart, who loves to carefully jump up on you for hugs and attention. She is incredibly smart and agile and would love a home to keep her active and enriched! She does take longer to get used to some men so a slow and patient home is needed. She is dog friendly and kid friendly. Once she bonds to people she does have the tendency to resource guard them so we are looking for a home with previous experience dealing with any potential guarding issues. Due to resource guarding we are marking her for households with children over 12 yrs of age. She seems to enjoy other dogs at the shelter, but due to her small animal prey drive, will need a home without cats or small pets.

Story
Meet Coco- a dashing 4-year-old Collie/Shepherd/Terrier type mix who came to us after being surrendered to another shelter. He weighs in around 35lbs, though is a bit skinny, so will likely even out around 38lbs. He is a playful and fun guy, who enjoys walks and running around outside. He's an active dog and doesn't mind wading in his kiddie pool! Coco is a bit selective with his dog friends and has done best with submissive females. Coco walks well on a harness and is very curious about exploring his surroundings. He can be nervous meeting new people and will need slow introductions. He has been moved around quite a bit recently, so we would love to get him back in a home!

Story
If you are looking for a sweet, soulful companion in a perfectly portable size, Diego is your guy. With his stunning tri-color coat and expressive eyes, Diego is beautiful inside and out. Despite a rough past, he has remained incredibly resilient and affectionate; his signature move is resting his paws on your chair and bowing his head to ask for ear scratches. He is a devoted shadow who wants nothing more than to be included in every family snuggle, curl up at your feet while you read, or supervise your cooking (just in case a scrap falls on the floor!).Thought to be around 8 yrs old, Diego is the definition of a polite house guest. He is 100% house-trained, signals when he needs to go out, and is so well-behaved that he doesn’t require a crate when left home alone. A homebody, Diego would prefer a quiet home with a yard (or at least a quiet neighborhood). He gets nervous on walks and in new situations and might bark at anything that moves. Being very food-motivated and attentive makes him easy to train. While he is generally quiet and easygoing, he does have a playful, curious side, especially when outdoor smells catch his attention.Diego is looking for a home where he can be loved like he deserves. He would do best in a home without cats and with adults or older children. While he is open to meeting other dogs, with slow introductions, he is currently neutral toward them and focuses mostly on his humans. If you are looking for a loyal, charming, and low-maintenance friend who has handled life’s challenges with total grace, Diego is ready to join your family.Interested in adopting this dog? Visit our website (http://www.SecondCityCanineRescue.org) to fill out an application and to find out where this dog may be shown this weekend. We love our dogs. We want happy lives for all of them and are looking for the home that provides the best fit for each dog’s individual needs. Please understand that there may be multiple families interested in this dog. Also, please know that the breed mix listed is simply a guess. In most cases, we don’t know their background. We encourage you to base your decision on individual personality and pet qualities instead of relying on our guess. Please understand, we only adopt our animals out near the Chicagoland area. Story
https://www.collierescue.org/dogs/8 NAPERVILLE, IL Kirby is a gentle, mahogany sable Rough Collie who brings a calm, comforting presence to any room. This mellow, house-trained senior girl loves staying close to her people and would thrive in a quiet home that can support her slower pace and mobility needs. Kirby is a 11-year-old Rough Collie whose sweetness and easygoing nature shine through in everything she does. She’s fully house trained, rarely vocal, and content with a simple routine that includes short, regular walks and plenty of couch time. Kirby prefers to stay near her adults, soaking up gentle affection and companionship rather than high-energy play. She’s learning to loosen up and play a bit from her foster siblings, but her favorite role is quiet, loyal shadow. Due to significant muscle loss in her rear legs, Kirby has difficulty with stairs and getting up, so she needs a home that can accommodate her mobility challenges. She’s doing better with supportive care and supplements, but still benefits from a safe, stable environment where she can move at her own pace. A fenced yard is always desirable but she doesn’t require it as long as she gets age-appropriate exercise. Kirby moves carefully around seniors and would be an ideal match for a calm, patient household ready to offer her comfort, consistency, and love in her golden years.

Story
Fostered near Wonder Lake, IL Fenced yard optional https://www.collierescue.org/dogs/4 Sasha is a wonderful 7.5 year old Sable and White Collie. When Sasha came to CRGI she was very afraid of life. What we learned about her is although change, new people and experiences are scary for her, once she adjusts, she is a total Velcro dog, super smart, obedient and very loving. I am her foster mom, and I will tell you straight up, she will take time to adjust to a new home. Once she does, Sasha will show you just how amazing, loving and devoted a dog she is. For Sasha, slow and steady introductions to people and other dogs work best. She not only has bonded with me, her foster mom, but many of the neighbors she encounters through her frequent walks throughout the neighborhood and the people she has encountered in Petsmart and Home Depo. Sasha knows, crate, place, sit, watch, touch, down, wait, stay and paw. It is adorable when Sasha is asked to go to her place, sit, wait and watch for her food. She is like a little solder at attention until she is released. Sasha is nervous with anything new, places and certain people. When she meets dogs walking or in training, we do brief introductions and she does great. In the home Sasha prefers to be the one and only dog as she is not big on sharing toys, bones, or attention. Cats are unknown. Sasha has the energy of a 7.5 year old dog, calm and affectionate at home. Walks 2-3 times x a day, usually about 1-2 miles each, which she enjoys. Not a big toy girl but sure loves her bones! Sasha loves positive training with treats as it grows her confidence and focus on her owner. Sasha would do best in a home without children as their energy is scary for her. Older, calm children would be ok. Although she will do fine in a fenced in yard, her foster home has found that frequent walks have been an amazing aid in growing her confidence. Sasha will be totally devoted to her forever home. It is just her nature. When she first got to her foster home, she needed a couple of weeks to adjust and get comfortable. We gave her that. She has her crate which she relied on heavily to feel safe in the beginning. (Her crate will go with her to her forever home) After a few weeks we moved the crate upstairs and what is awesome is she made the choice to hang out downstairs with her foster mom and foster sister. The funny thing is her foster mom asks her to go in it now when she leaves the house, and Sasha has decided she doesn’t want to! (She is however enticed with a stuffed frozen Kong!) Not that she needs it when left in the house, well except for her paper fetish, so toilet paper or easy access paper beware! She was fully trained when she came to us. We decided to take her to a beginners’ training course to help her build confidence and get to know her better. Step one was getting in and out of the car. With the help of her foster sister and treats, she jumps in and out like a champ now. Although there are times when a new experience will cause her a bit of stress and she will decide to hang out in the car for a while after we get home! That is ok. It is her time to decompress. We are good with that because she trusts her foster mom to get her in the car and take her to new places and meet new people. Class was a bit scary the first time around, but by session three she would whine in excitement when we pulled in! We had an incredible trainer at Petsmart in McHenry named Morgan. Before class all I had to say was we are going to see Morgan, and she would get all waggy tail and excited to go. She did need a few moments to decompress in the car when we got home. Just the fact that she did so amazing at class, entitled her to a few moments to settle down. What is super interesting about this girl is that although new situations and people can be stressful for her, she still wants to experience them. For example, we walk all the time on both sidewalks and forest preserves. In the beginning, both stressed her out. Now she would be extremely upset if her foster mom left her home. Sasha needs a forever, devoted owner or family that appreciates with every effort to help her get comfortable, she will give her family unlimited love. She will show you at every turn how devoted and trusting she is.

Story
I’m Pinky. Easy Days, Sunny Spots, and Just Enough Play.I'm currently in Georgia. My bags are packed, I’m ready to travel to my new home. Where are you? Are you my new family? I’ll travel to you! I’m a cattle dog and Lab mix, around 55 pounds, spayed, and up to date on all my shots. I’ve reached that good part of life where I know who I am and what I like. I like walks. Not rushed, not chaotic. Just a good pace, fresh air, and something to look at along the way. I like the sun too. Give me a warm spot and I’ll stretch out like I’ve been doing it forever. I’m a laid-back girl, but don’t mistake that for boring. I still get my moments. I’ll run around the yard, play a bit, enjoy myself, then settle right back down like nothing happened. I like other dogs as long as they’re respectful. No pushy behavior, no nonsense. If they’re calm and know how to share space, we’ll get along just fine. Cats don’t really interest me. I’ve seen them, I let them be. I’ve done well with crate training. I understand routine. I don’t need constant direction. I know how to live in a home and be part of it without taking it over. What I want now is simple. A place where I can relax, enjoy my days, and still have a little fun along the way. A person who appreciates a dog who doesn’t need to prove anything. I’ve already done that part. ##2662519##

I’m Stone. Built for Action. Wired for Connection.I'm currently in Georgia. My bags are packed, I’m ready to travel to my new home. Where are you? Are you my new family? I’ll travel to you! I don’t sit around wondering what to do. I look for it. I’m a medium-sized girl with a white and brown coat, fully vetted and spayed, and I’ve got a brain that never really turns off. Think problem solver. Think climber. Think “how did she get up there” kind of dog. I like to jump. I like to explore. I like to figure things out just because they’re there. If there’s a yard, I’m mapping it. If there’s a game, I’m learning it. If there’s a job, I want it. I’m smart. Really smart. The kind of smart that needs direction, not boredom. I do take a second with new people. I’ll look, think, decide. Then I come in. Once I know you’re good, I’m affectionate, engaged, and right there with you. Belly rubs are a yes. Hugs are a yes. Being part of your world is a yes. We’re still working on leash confidence, but I’m getting better. I listen. I try. I want to understand what you’re asking. I met a cat once. I was curious, sure, but I came back when called. That’s who I am. I notice things, but I stay connected. I’m not a sit-on-the-couch-all-day dog. I’m a let’s-go-do-something dog. Walks. Training. Agility. A job. A purpose. Give me that, and I will give you everything I’ve got. If you’ve been looking for a dog who thinks, moves, and lives with intention, I’m already here. ##2662537##

Story
Merrick is truly something special! At just over a year old, Merrick is a 45-pound Australian Cattle Dog with a heart as big as his potential. This handsome boy is smart, affectionate, and ready to find a forever home that will embrace him—just as he is. Due to old leg injuries, Merrick can’t live an active lifestyle, but that doesn’t dull his shine. He’ll need a caring foster or adopter who can help manage his mobility with gentle at-home treatments like red light and massage therapy, along with pain medication on days he needs extra support. But don’t let that fool you—his spirit is as bright and loving as ever. Merrick may not run marathons, but he will run straight into your heart. He's a total gentleman—calm, friendly, and soaking up the love from everyone he met. He’s crate trained, has a medium energy level, and enjoys peaceful companionship over chaos. That is why we recommend no kids. He gets along great with calm dogs, and although he hasn’t been cat-tested yet, his sweet and gentle nature suggests he could do well with the right introduction. he definiteyl gets along with small dogs - see his photos. Merrick is loyal, intelligent, and deeply people-focused, a true best friend in the making. All he needs is someone to see past his physical limitations and recognize the perfect companion waiting beneath. He may need a little extra care, but in return, you’ll get a lot of love. Looking for a loyal, laid-back lovebug to share your life with? Merrick is ready to meet you. A generous donor heard of Merrick's story and has offered to help sponsor Merrick's adoption fee. We are thrilled to announce that if you adopt Merrick, your adoption fee is reduced to $250. Sweet Merrick is ready for a loving home! Apply today.
