Story
Are you ready to welcome the cutest bundle of fluff you've ever seen in your life? Meet Puppy, a 1-year-old chow chow, collie, golden retriever mix who was found terrified and roaming the streets of the South before SCCR took him in. He may have had a rocky start, but let us assure you, he's come a loooong way since then.Puppy's got a strategy when it comes to meeting humans. Step 1: approach them with a wagging tail and inquisitive sniffs. Step 2: assess the situation, and if a petting hand approaches, execute an expert retreat! Step 3: entice humans to dispense treats in exchange for trust. Step 4: allow special Puppy belly rub (with his foster parents, he's become a belly-rub connoisseur, with a hint of reluctance and a dramatic flair.) Who knew belly rubs could be both a pleasure and an art form?Let's talk about Puppy's skills. He's like a treat-seeking missile, guided by the invisible scent trails of his favorite snacks. He knows his commands - sit, leave it, and touch - and if you wave a treat, he'll be happy to give you a show. He's playful, too; he loves squeaky toys and a good dog wrestle! Puppy does well with all kinds of dogs, as long as they're not too "in his face." In fact, he'd love a home with a fenced-in yard and a confident doggie sibling who can continue to show him the ropes as he grows up. His best bud & foster brother Jaxson can vouch for this. They're like the canine version of dynamic duo, causing double trouble and playing all day long in the yard.Puppy might not be a cuddler (yet!), but he's got ways to show he cares. Waiting outside the bathroom? Check. Tail wagging with enthusiasm? Double check. And the grand finale - letting you pet him and rub his belly without a disappearing act. Bravo! We're looking for a special kind of human for Puppy, someone with a quiet home (probably no small children) who understands that building trust takes patience, time and treats (mostly treats, though). Puppy's journey to normalizing his fears is a tale of triumph waiting for its final chapter. So, if you've got a bit of a doggy whisperer in you, and a love for treats that rivals his own, then you might just be the hero this fluffy adventurer is looking for!PLEASE NOTE: Puppy does have an abnormal gait that he currently manages well without any medication or pain. Anyone interested in Puppy should apply and speak to our medical team for his medical history and records.Interested in adopting this dog? Visit our website (http://www.SecondCityCanineRescue.org) to fill out an application and to find out where this dog may be shown this weekend. We love our dogs. We want happy lives for all of them and are looking for the home that provides the best fit for each dog's individual needs. Please understand that there may be multiple families interested in this dog. Also, please know that the breed mix listed is simply a guess. In most cases, we don't know their background. We encourage you to base your decision on individual personality and pet qualities instead of relying on our guess. Please understand, we only adopt our animals out near the Chicagoland area. Questions? Email us at adoptions@sccrescue.org. Hope to see you become part of the SCCR family!

Story
Hi there. Thanks for taking a look at me! I know my cute face is irresistible, but remember that I will take up lots of your time and attention while I grow into an awesome adult dog. Socialization, training (including house training), and exercise are just a few of the things I will look to you for. Chewing, teething, and learning what is Okay and not Okay to put in my mouth are all part of the puppy experience. And, be prepared for the time and money for frequent trips to the vet during the first few months so I can get up to date on my boosters and vaccines. But most of all, be prepared for all of the LOVE, puppy kisses, and joy I will bring into your life. If you are up for the challenge and the fun, stop in and meet my cute self in person during our adoption hours. For more information, email bloomingdale@ahconnects.org or call us at 847-697-2880 x: 90, and the staff will be happy to help you.

Story
Rough Collie 3 years old Fenced yard required Fostered in Illinois Don’t let the smooth-like coat fool you. Three-year-old Grace is a sable and white rough collie. Her coat was heavily matted and the shelter decided to shave her before releasing her to our rescue. Although Grace looks good as a smoothie, her beautiful long coat will return in no time. Meanwhile, enjoy her hugs, kisses, and sweet personality. Little Grace is a sweet and friendly girl. She loves cuddles and giving kisses. She greets strangers by gently jumping on them. She gets along well with the resident cats and two resident collies. She is curious and friendly with the next door neighbors’ dog as well. Grace and the neighbor’s dog jump up on the fence to see each other any chance they get; super cute to watch. Although at times she might be a tad bit pushy towards one of the dogs in the foster home, they both snuggle up for a nap on the couch at the end of the day. When not enjoying the comforts of home, Grace likes running around the yard. She gets bursts of energy and zooms all over the place. This fun girl needs a fenced in yard for sure! Grace is coming along nicely with her training. She knows the sit and come commands and is working on shake and down. She could use a little work on social etiquette. Her table and counter manners are less than ideal, and she tends to jump on people, but we feel that with consistent and gentle training she will learn in no time. Good thing she is food motivated. Grace rides well in the car, is pretty good on a leash, and is fine with loud noises. When outside, she has some difficulty keeping focus as there’s so much to see, hear, and smell while on leash or in the yard. Continued practice with following directions when distracted is recommended. Bath time and brushing is not a problem for Grace. Being a social girl, she likes to be with her collie pack when her humans are gone. One day, Grace expressed her displeasure with confinement. When she was left in a gated kitchen, she somehow managed to escape. She was found sitting on the couch happy and content as if she’d been there all day! And who can blame her? Maybe her nickname should be Houdini. Her foster mom started crating her when leaving for extended periods of time. Grace will whine for a while but will settle down. When everyone is home, the crate is open and you’ll find Grace relaxing there from time to time. With her playful nature and loving kisses, Grace would be a great addition to any family. Fill out an application for amazing Grace today. Application can be found here: https://collierescue.org/DogDetails.aspx?id=2023-038
