Story
If you are looking for a sweet, soulful companion in a perfectly portable size, Diego is your guy. With his stunning tri-color coat and expressive eyes, Diego is beautiful inside and out. Despite a rough past, he has remained incredibly resilient and affectionate; his signature move is resting his paws on your chair and bowing his head to ask for ear scratches. He is a devoted shadow who wants nothing more than to be included in every family snuggle, curl up at your feet while you read, or supervise your cooking (just in case a scrap falls on the floor!).Thought to be around 8 yrs old, Diego is the definition of a polite house guest. He is 100% house-trained, signals when he needs to go out, and is so well-behaved that he doesn’t require a crate when left home alone. A homebody, Diego would prefer a quiet home with a yard (or at least a quiet neighborhood). He gets nervous on walks and in new situations and might bark at anything that moves. Being very food-motivated and attentive makes him easy to train. While he is generally quiet and easygoing, he does have a playful, curious side, especially when outdoor smells catch his attention.Diego is looking for a home where he can be loved like he deserves. He would do best in a home without cats and with adults or older children. While he is open to meeting other dogs, with slow introductions, he is currently neutral toward them and focuses mostly on his humans. If you are looking for a loyal, charming, and low-maintenance friend who has handled life’s challenges with total grace, Diego is ready to join your family.Interested in adopting this dog? Visit our website (http://www.SecondCityCanineRescue.org) to fill out an application and to find out where this dog may be shown this weekend. We love our dogs. We want happy lives for all of them and are looking for the home that provides the best fit for each dog’s individual needs. Please understand that there may be multiple families interested in this dog. Also, please know that the breed mix listed is simply a guess. In most cases, we don’t know their background. We encourage you to base your decision on individual personality and pet qualities instead of relying on our guess. Please understand, we only adopt our animals out near the Chicagoland area. Questions? Email us at adoptions@sccrescue.org. Hope to see you become part of the SCCR family!

Story
Athena may be shy right now, but her name carries the spirit of quiet strength. In Greek mythology, Athena is the goddess of wisdom and courage — qualities this beautiful border collie mix is just beginning to show as she settles into safety. She was rescued in the nick of time from a high&#226&#128&#145kill shelter where her days were running out. After such an overwhelming start, it’s no surprise she’s cautious with new people. But in her foster home, Athena is already adjusting, observing, and taking everything in with gentle curiosity. With patience and a calm environment, her confidence will continue to grow. We can already see the makings of a loyal, thoughtful companion who simply needs the chance to feel secure. Athena is a bit of an athlete so we recommend her home have a 6 ft. fenced in yard._________________________________________________________________________Adoption Donation for Athena is $ 525.00WANT TO MEET AthenaThe first step would be for you to go to our website at www.aear.org and then to the “Adopting a Pet” page to read about our Adoption Process which will answer many of your questions and then to fill out an Adoption Application. Also, please visit our very active Facebook Page for updates on Athena and our other adoptable pets with AEAR - www.facebook.com/aear.orgAll our animals available for adoption are living in foster homes. Story
Valentino is a brown&#226&#128&#145and&#226&#128&#145white sweetheart who’s already showing off his calm, observant nature. He’s a relaxed, laid&#226&#128&#145back puppy who likes to watch the world — and the toys — before making his move. When a toy gets tossed, he studies the situation, waits for just the right moment, and then pounces in with playful confidence. He’s doing wonderfully with his puppy basics, using his pee pads about 99% of the time (good boy!) and eating every meal with enthusiasm. Valentino plays hard, naps hard, and loves being held. He’s a bit larger for his age and gives the sweetest puppy kisses — the kind that make you melt instantly.Valentino is ready for a family who will enjoy his gentle temperament, his smart, thoughtful personality, and his irresistible snuggles._________________________________________________________________________Adoption Donation for Valentino is $ 575.00WANT TO MEET ValentinoThe first step would be for you to go to our website at www.aear.org and then to the “Adopting a Pet” page to read about our Adoption Process which will answer many of your questions and then to fill out an Adoption Application. Also, please visit our very active Facebook Page for updates on Valentino and our other adoptable pets with AEAR - www.facebook.com/aear.orgAll our animals available for adoption are living in foster homes. Snow is at our shelter. Please submit an application from our website or just come in to meet her during open hours! Scroll through her photos to see her cute video content! Snow is a gentle, playful puppy with a sweet soul and a curious nature. She arrived at one of our shelter partners in Nebraska as a stray with her littermates after being found in difficult conditions and covered in fleas. One of our staff members was there and met them and decided to make them Heartland puppies! Snow has handled all she's been through with quiet resilience and a loving spirit. She enjoys playtime, exploring new things, and sticking close to her siblings. Her soft personality really shines when she’s relaxed and feeling safe. Snow is ready to grow up in a forever home where she can feel secure, loved, and adored. Snow's adoption fee is $450. This animal is spayed/neutered, and is up to date on core vaccines appropriate for their age. They will need a Heartworm test between 6-7 months of age at the adopter's own vet. Since she is a puppy, any adopter should anticipate needing to work on housebreaking and other training using positive reinforcement training only.

Story
May is living in a foster home! Please submit an application from our website or email dogs@heartlandanimalshelter.org to learn if you're a match! Scroll through her photos to see her cute video content! May is a sweet, quiet girl who came to us when her owner was unable to care for her due to his medical issues. May lived with her owner since she was a baby puppy, and it was obvious she was very well loved and cared for. She came to us with her crate, her bed, her blanket, and all her toys! Since shelter life can be extra tough for dogs who only know life in a home, we got her into a foster right away! May's previous owner wanted us to know what a good girl she is, so he gave us a lot of information about her. We know she is housebroken and crate trained. She is shy, but affectionate with both humans and other dogs. We asked him for a description of May, and this is what he said: "May is a cuddly 3 year old Australian Cattle Dog/King Charles Spaniel mix. She loves walks and playing with her toys until she is tired, at which point she just wants to be a lap dog. She knows basic commands like sit and stay, is house and crate trained, and does decent on a leash. She's still working on not jumping on people when super excited, but she is very friendly and loves giving kisses. She is quiet and well behaved, and responds extra well when treats are involved. May is good with other dogs, though may need a slow introduction as she can be shy sometimes (but once she warms up all she wants to do is Play!). May is a sweetheart and is very affectionate and loves spending the evening snuggled up on the couch." May has been lucky enough to be staying in a foster home while in our care, and May's foster mom confirms that she is housebroken and crate trained. She loves toys and especially chewing on her antlers! She even stays off of furniture unless invited up. May loves everyone! She is smart, listens well, loves to play and cuddle, and is very attentive. She even knows basic commands. The forever home May deserves is definitely out there. Is it yours? May's adoption fee is $375. This animal is spayed, up to date on core vaccines, and Heartworm negative.
