Story
Athena may be shy right now, but her name carries the spirit of quiet strength. In Greek mythology, Athena is the goddess of wisdom and courage — qualities this beautiful border collie mix is just beginning to show as she settles into safety. She and her sweet son, Atlas, were rescued in the nick of time from a high&#226&#128&#145kill shelter where their days were running out. After such an overwhelming start, it’s no surprise she’s cautious with new people. But in her foster home, Athena is already adjusting, observing, and taking everything in with gentle curiosity. With patience and a calm environment, her confidence will continue to grow. We can already see the makings of a loyal, thoughtful companion who simply needs the chance to feel secure._________________________________________________________________________Adoption Donation for Athena is $ 525.00WANT TO MEET AthenaThe first step would be for you to go to our website at www.aear.org and then to the “Adopting a Pet” page to read about our Adoption Process which will answer many of your questions and then to fill out an Adoption Application. Also, please visit our very active Facebook Page for updates on Athena and our other adoptable pets with AEAR - www.facebook.com/aear.orgAll our animals available for adoption are living in foster homes. Story
Ostentatia Wallace is a gentle, thoughtful soul who has quietly mastered the art of being an excellent house companion. She is fully house trained, non-destructive, and respectful of her surroundings—no counter surfing, no table begging, and no mischief when left alone. She crates well (with just a short moment to settle) and is incredibly easy to live with, making her the kind of dog who quickly feels like she’s always belonged. This smart girl is eager to please and very attentive to her people. She enjoys being near her humans, soaking up affection and attention, and loves being handled and petted. While she’s not a fan of being picked up (she’s a sturdy 60 lbs, after all!), she shows her affection by staying close and being a calm, loving presence. She already knows “sit” and, with her intelligence and willingness to learn, she has so much potential to pick up more cues and confidence-building skills. Outdoors, Ostentatia enjoys exploring and taking in her surroundings at her own pace. She isn’t particularly toy-motivated or fetch-focused, preferring relaxed romps and sniffing adventures. On leash, she can be reactive when she sees other dogs or people, and this behavior appears to be fear-based, likely due to limited leash experience earlier in life. With patience, consistency, and positive reinforcement, she has every chance to make progress and feel more secure on walks. At home, Ostentatia shines brightest. She naps comfortably during the day, sleeps well in her crate at night (though she’d happily trade that for a spot in bed someday), and settles beautifully into a routine. She does best with older kids and teens (13+), and while her experience with cats is unknown, her overall demeanor is calm and affectionate. Ostentatia Wallace is a truly good girl—steady, loving, and ready for a home that will continue to help her grow in confidence while appreciating the wonderful dog she already is. Interested in adopting this dog? Visit our website (http://www.SecondCityCanineRescue.org) to fill out an application and to find out where this dog may be shown this weekend. We love our dogs. We want happy lives for all of them and are looking for the home that provides the best fit for each dog’s individual needs. Please understand that there may be multiple families interested in this dog. Also, please know that the breed mix listed is simply a guess. In most cases, we don’t know their background. We en
