Story
Charlie is a good dog who got a bad start.  We have no knowledge of his history and where he came from, but we are pretty sure he has not lived in a house with people.  When he first came to us, he hid from the dishwasher, barked at the television and ran away when first presented with stuffed toys.  He remains easily spooked by noise, but is improving – getting used to the dishwasher, the television, the stuffed dog toys and other day-to-day items in the house.  Physically, he was in pretty bad condition - He was positive for tick illnesses (we gave him Doxy and he is doing bettter now), his coat and skin were in horrible condition (we've given him good nutrition and he's looking a lot better), his teeth were Grade 3 dental disease (we gave him a dental and they are all clean now)!  Charlie weighs about 63 lbs. Charlie is a quick learner, and is adapting to life in a home with his foster collie sister.  He is learning commands and is starting to recognize his name.  We do not crate him, but leave it open and he often sleeps in there.  He is respectful of the house and items in it, and does not jump on the furniture.  He is very cooperative - He pretty much will stand still for almost anything if you ask him to especially if you scratch him – he loves to be scratched.  He grooms well, and is very affectionate.  His fur is growing in nicely since he needed to have some extensive matting shaved.   He’s very focused on understanding and fitting into his new environment.  He watches intensely and you can see the wheels turning as he tries to figure it all out.  He is interested in other dogs and people, and has shown no aggression toward either – but he will bark in the backyard at passing people (and squirrels) with his sister, who loves to do that.  He has shown interest in playing with other dogs, though we have not yet allowed that. Charlie is quite smart and very eager to please. We estimate his age to be about 6 years old.  If you are interested in rescuing a collie, please complete this short adoption questionnaire. Our standard adoption fee is $450. This fee helps us to cover (and sometimes only partially cover) the expense of providing each dog with a Health Exam, Rabies/DHPP vaccines, Heartworm Test, Heartworm Preventative, Flea & Tick Protection, Microchip, Neuter/Spay, a Bath and any other medical needs.  Thank you for your consideration in adopting a collie in need!!! Born: October 13, 2024 Duffy is a beautiful, smiley young man, who will turn one year old in October 2025. He is a sweet and cuddly guy, who snuggles on the sofa and gives lavish loving kisses. Duffy loves all other dogs and his family - but he is skittish around new people, though, and new places, and needs slow, secure introductions.Duffy is neutered, housebroken, well trained, and except for his penchant for finding fun new toys in the house - preferably paper! - exceptionally well behaved. He’s on the tall side for a collie, and is going to be stunning when his full coat comes in! Duffy is looking for a patient and active family, with someone nonstop to play with, and a big yard. He is a gift who will be well worth the time to earn his trust.  If you are interested in rescuing a collie, please complete this short adoption questionnaire. Our standard adoption fee is $450. Story
Lenny is a fairly new arrival to his foster home, and he is doing great! He is a well-mannered adult collie, housebroken, smart, and loving. He plays well with his collie foster siblings and is great at turn taking. He is very much a Velcro dog, following his foster mom everywhere she goes! He’s affectionate and gives little kisses. Lenny loves hiking in the snow, and bursts into play regularly! He’s a neutered male and is doing well with dogs of all genders and ages. He is very polite in the house, knows “sit,” walks well on a leash, and rides well in a car. In public he is confident and curious and wants to meet all the people! If you are interested in rescuing a collie, please complete this short adoption questionnaire. Story
Meet Eddie—a gentle, people-loving Collie mix with a soft, easygoing personality. At 2 years old and 45 pounds, he’s the kind of dog who forms a strong bond with his person and is happiest simply being by your side. While he’s currently fostered with other dogs, they don’t interest him much—Eddie much prefers human companionship and would likely thrive as the only dog in the home. Eddie enjoys a good game of fetch with ropes or balls, but he’s not over-the-top about it. A few fun tosses followed by relaxing nearby is more his speed. His calm, quiet nature makes him a great candidate for a variety of living situations, including apartment life. He’s still picking up some basics and would benefit from continued training. Eddie is learning cues like “sit,” “stay,” and “down,” and is working on keeping his curiosity off the countertops when food is around. He can also be a bit protective of his toys and prefers to enjoy playtime on his own rather than share. With consistency and positive reinforcement, he’ll continue to make great progress. In the home, Eddie is a relaxed and respectful companion. He settles easily, isn’t interested in climbing onto furniture, and may even be comfortable sleeping outside of a crate. If you’re looking for a loyal, low-key dog who enjoys a little playtime and a lot of quiet companionship, Eddie could be the perfect match. Foster Homes Needed! Do you have time and room in your life for a foster dog? http://www.muttloverescue.org/foster.html *****************   Snuggles fetch and food!  What do these things have in common?  Ranger!  These just happen to be his most favorite things!  If you too love puppy snuggles then he’s the guy for you.   After a seemingly never ending game of fetch, Ranger will happily settle down and chill with a chew bone or even better a nap snuggled up next to his favorite person.   Food is up next on his list of faves, which makes him an ideal candidate for training! He loves to learn and picks up new skills so quickly.  All he needs is a new family to continue his education. It’s hard to believe this adorable guy was taken to a shelter in SW VA after being hit by a car and no one claimed him.  After being cleared by a vet he was able to be transferred to Mutts for a chance at a better life!  It’s taken some time for us to really get to know him but after spending quality time in not one, but two foster homes (he’s so popular two foster families are sharing his time!), we’ve discovered what an amazing boy Ranger is! To note, Ranger can be uncomfortable and reactive to some dogs while on leash.  We feel with the right fear free training, time and patience, this can be managed and improved.  Ranger has had some good play sessions with female dogs and was able to coexist in a foster home with calm, female dogs.  At this time it is best for Ranger to live in a single family home with a fenced yard where his interactions around other dogs can be managed.  He is able to go for walks with a plan and lots of treats for distractions.  Trust us when we say this love bug will be worth all the extra effort! Ranger is 40lbs and 2 yrs old.  **BECAUSE OF OUR REQUIREMENT FOR A HOME VISIT, WE ARE ONLY ABLE TO ADOPT TO HOMES IN THE NORTHERN VA / MARYLAND / DC METRO AREA** We have adoption events EVERY SATURDAY from 12-3 p.m. Please note that not all dogs can attend every event, so if you are interested in meeting a particular dog, please complete a no-obligation application on our website at http://www.muttloverescue.org/application.html OR write to adopt@muttloverescue.org. Aspen is about 1 year old and weighs about 32 lbs. We think she is a Cattle Dog/Husky Mix (just a guess). Aspen has been a great mom to her 5 puppies and now it is time for them all to find their forever homes. Aspen will require an experienced adopter. Aspen is a shy and timid dog who will take time to warm up to a new home. She is great with the resident dogs in her foster home and will require another young and playful dog in her forever home. Aspen would do best with children 7 years and up. Loud noises and unpredictable movements startle her. Aspen is quite energetic and very smart. Aspen is still settling into life in a home and when startled she does look for an "out". She will quickly run and hide but will then relax when she sees there is no danger. Aspen will need another young, confident and playful dog in her forever home to help build her confidence. Aspen will be is spayed on January 19th, she is up to date on vaccines and microchipped. Aspen's heartworm treatment will begin in February. The Adoption Fee is $375.00 ***You must be at least 25 years of age to adopt from CKRescue*** ***Please note that our first step in approving adoption applicants is to complete a vet check. Vetting of current and past pets is very important to us, thus we will be speaking with the vet(s) listed on your application to ensure that your current and previous pet(s) are kept up to date on vaccines (including rabies), spayed or neutered, maintained on appropriate monthly preventatives and examined annually by your vet.*** Our organization cannot guarantee the exact breed of any animal in our care.
