Story
Charlie is a good dog who got a bad start.  We have no knowledge of his history and where he came from, but we are pretty sure he has not lived in a house with people.  When he first came to us, he hid from the dishwasher, barked at the television and ran away when first presented with stuffed toys.  He remains easily spooked by noise, but is improving – getting used to the dishwasher, the television, the stuffed dog toys and other day-to-day items in the house.  Physically, he was in pretty bad condition - He was positive for tick illnesses (we gave him Doxy and he is doing bettter now), his coat and skin were in horrible condition (we've given him good nutrition and he's looking a lot better), his teeth were Grade 3 dental disease (we gave him a dental and they are all clean now)!  Charlie weighs about 63 lbs. Charlie is a quick learner, and is adapting to life in a home with his foster collie sister.  He is learning commands and is starting to recognize his name.  We do not crate him, but leave it open and he often sleeps in there.  He is respectful of the house and items in it, and does not jump on the furniture.  He is very cooperative - He pretty much will stand still for almost anything if you ask him to especially if you scratch him – he loves to be scratched.  He grooms well, and is very affectionate.  His fur is growing in nicely since he needed to have some extensive matting shaved.   He’s very focused on understanding and fitting into his new environment.  He watches intensely and you can see the wheels turning as he tries to figure it all out.  He is interested in other dogs and people, and has shown no aggression toward either – but he will bark in the backyard at passing people (and squirrels) with his sister, who loves to do that.   Charlie is quite smart and very eager to please. We estimate his age to be about 6 years old.  If you are interested in rescuing a collie, please complete this short adoption questionnaire. Our standard adoption fee is $450. This fee helps us to cover (and sometimes only partially cover) the expense of providing each dog with a Health Exam, Rabies/DHPP vaccines, Heartworm Test, Heartworm Preventative, Flea & Tick Protection, Microchip, Neuter/Spay, a Bath and any other medical needs.  Thank you for your consideration in adopting a collie in need!!! Story
Meet your new best friend, Catina — a sweet, mellow girl who is 5.5 years old and has a heart full of love and some of the best house manners around. She’s the kind of dog who settles easily into a home and quickly becomes everyone’s favorite companion. This lovely pup absolutely adores people and is happiest making new friends wherever she goes. She may get a little excited and jumpy when greeting someone new, but it’s all pure happiness and affection. At the dog park, while other dogs are busy wrestling and chasing balls, she’s usually making the rounds to collect pets and attention from every human she can find. She walks beautifully on a leash, enjoys her meals with enthusiasm, and has an easygoing personality that makes living with her a breeze. Around the house, she’s calm and content to simply curl up nearby while her foster family relaxes. She’s not anxious, needy, or quirky — just a steady, loving companion who enjoys being close to her people. She’s crate trained, though she doesn’t really need one, and she does just fine when left alone for a little while. The only thing to note is that long car rides can make her a bit drooly or carsick, but otherwise she handles everyday life wonderfully. She does have some allergies that are well-managed with medication, and she takes it like a champ. Her foster family has found it very easy to keep her comfortable and happy. If you’re looking for a gentle, affectionate dog with a calm spirit, great manners, and lots of love to give, she may be exactly the missing piece your family has been waiting for.      If you are interested in rescuing a collie, please complete this short adoption questionnaire. Our standard adoption fee is $450. Lenny is a fairly new arrival to his foster home, and he is doing great! He is a well-mannered adult collie, housebroken, smart, and loving. He plays well with his collie foster siblings and is great at turn taking. He is very much a Velcro dog, following his foster mom everywhere she goes! He’s affectionate and gives little kisses. Lenny loves hiking in the snow, and bursts into play regularly! He’s a neutered male and is doing well with dogs of all genders and ages. He is very polite in the house, knows “sit,” walks well on a leash, and rides well in a car. In public he is confident and curious and wants to meet all the people! If you are interested in rescuing a collie, please complete this short adoption questionnaire. Story
Meet Duffy — a gorgeous young collie with a bright smile, a playful spirit, and so much love to give to the right family. Born on October 13, 2024, Duffy is still very much a puppy at heart. At home with the people and dogs he knows, he is affectionate, silly, and incredibly loving. He adores snuggling on the sofa, handing out enthusiastic kisses, and spending his days playing with his canine friends. He would absolutely thrive in a home with another young, playful dog and a large fenced yard where he can run, wrestle, and burn off his youthful energy. Duffy is also a smart and well-mannered boy. He is neutered, housebroken, well trained, and generally a wonderful house companion — though he does occasionally enjoy “redecorating” with any paper products he can find. Like many young dogs, he’s still discovering what counts as a toy! What Duffy truly needs, though, is a patient and understanding adopter. New people and unfamiliar environments can make him nervous, and he tends to express that uncertainty by barking. He is not aggressive at all, but he does need time, slow introductions, and consistency in order to feel safe and comfortable. Once he trusts you, his sweet and loyal personality shines through beautifully. Duffy is not the kind of dog who will walk into a new home and instantly act like he’s lived there forever. He’s the kind of dog whose trust is earned — and for the right person, that bond will be incredibly rewarding. Watching him grow in confidence and blossom into the happy, loving companion he wants to be is something very special. He’s also going to be absolutely stunning as he matures. Already tall and handsome, Duffy’s full collie coat is still coming in, and he is only getting more beautiful with age. Duffy is looking for a calm but active home, a playful dog companion, and people who understand that some sensitive dogs simply need a little extra time and patience. In return, he’ll give endless affection, loyalty, laughter, and love. Story
Sammy is a beautiful medium-sized Collie mix with a gentle soul and a loving heart. At just one year old and 39 pounds, he’s the perfect size for just about any home. Sammy was found surviving on his own in a rural area, but even then, the highlight of his day was getting close to the local school just to watch the children. His sweet nature shines through in everything he does. Sammy gets along wonderfully with every dog he meets and has a calm, friendly personality that makes him easy to love. He’s ready to leave his days of fending for himself behind and find a forever family who will give him the love and security he deserves. Accuracy is not guaranteed; however, information provided is accurate to the best of our knowledge.  For more information on the pet, please send an email to info@aforeverhome.org June 3, 2026, 4:35 pm

Story
Have you ever seen a more handsome tricolor collie boy? Meet Zuki — a friendly, fun-loving 3-year-old with a big personality and an even bigger heart. Zuki had a few understandably sad days when he first arrived at his foster home, but it didn’t take long for his happy spirit to shine through. Now he’s thriving and loving life. A slightly “fluffy” gentleman at the moment, Zuki is proudly working on his fitness journey (he was well fed!) and has fully embraced his healthy lifestyle. Early morning hikes through the woods and backyard playdates are quickly becoming his favorite activities. One of the best things about Zuki is how much he enjoys other dogs. He would absolutely love a home with a canine companion to play with and keep him company. He’s also become a wonderful walking buddy — after just a little practice, he now strolls beautifully on leash through neighborhoods and wooded trails alike. Zuki is a social guy who enjoys outings to hardware stores, nurseries, and anywhere he can meet new people and collect compliments. He previously lived with children, but because he has some strong herding instincts, he would likely do best in a home with older kids who understand dog behavior. At home, Zuki is an easy and lovable companion. He’s fully housebroken, has excellent indoor manners, and faithfully sleeps beside his foster mom’s bed every night. He also takes his household “security patrol” duties very seriously and will proudly keep watch at the front door. Zuki is truly a wonderful young dog — affectionate, engaging, and full of potential. He’s ready to bring joy, laughter, and loyal companionship to the lucky family who welcomes him home.If you are interested in rescuing a collie, please complete this short adoption questionnaire. Foster Homes Needed! Do you have time and room in your life for a foster dog? http://www.muttloverescue.org/foster.html *****************   Snuggles fetch and food!  What do these things have in common?  Ranger!  These just happen to be his most favorite things!  If you too love puppy snuggles then he’s the guy for you.   After a seemingly never ending game of fetch, Ranger will happily settle down and chill with a chew bone or even better a nap snuggled up next to his favorite person.   Food is up next on his list of faves, which makes him an ideal candidate for training! He loves to learn and picks up new skills so quickly.  All he needs is a new family to continue his education. It’s hard to believe this adorable guy was taken to a shelter in SW VA after being hit by a car and no one claimed him.  After being cleared by a vet he was able to be transferred to Mutts for a chance at a better life!  It’s taken some time for us to really get to know him but after spending quality time in not one, but two foster homes (he’s so popular two foster families are sharing his time!), we’ve discovered what an amazing boy Ranger is! To note, Ranger can be uncomfortable and reactive to some dogs while on leash.  We feel with the right fear free training, time and patience, this can be managed and improved.  Ranger has had some good play sessions with female dogs and was able to coexist in a foster home with calm, female dogs.  At this time it is best for Ranger to live in a single family home with a fenced yard where his interactions around other dogs can be managed.  He is able to go for walks with a plan and lots of treats for distractions.  Trust us when we say this love bug will be worth all the extra effort! Ranger is 40lbs and 2 yrs old.  **BECAUSE OF OUR REQUIREMENT FOR A HOME VISIT, WE ARE ONLY ABLE TO ADOPT TO HOMES IN THE NORTHERN VA / MARYLAND / DC METRO AREA** We have adoption events EVERY SATURDAY from 12-3 p.m. Please note that not all dogs can attend every event, so if you are interested in meeting a particular dog, please complete a no-obligation application on our website at http://www.muttloverescue.org/application.html OR write to adopt@muttloverescue.org.
