Foster Homes Needed! Do you have time and room in your life for a foster dog? http://www.muttloverescue.org/foster.html *****************   Meet one of the cutest pups ever,  Brandy.  Whatever you are doing, she is doing. If you are not doing it, she is going to convince you that you should be.  A true teenager with lots of energy and always up for an adventure.  She did well with her foster siblings and anyone else who wants to join them in the back yard for play time. She does well, figures everyone out and adjusts her play style.  Walking is an adventure for her, meeting and greeting everyone, she's just that friendly and eager to meet you.  Brandy is learming that mouthing is for toys and not for getting attention. Give her lots of  exercise and fun and she will soon relax.  She  is a smart girl and will learn fast with  Crates are ok but she really would prefer to stay out of them. We are recommending she be crated when left alone, she is busy and can find toys all through the house.  House training is on track but please keep her on a schedule until she figures out her new environment.  We recommend no snall children because of her energy and herding tendencies. Homes with a backyard and active fur sibling along with plenty of hiking and outdoor time on the weekends is her absolute dream family.  She is fully vetted and around that 6-7 months. Best guess on breed collie mix. And that is a real guess.  **BECAUSE OF OUR REQUIREMENT FOR A HOME VISIT, WE ARE ONLY ABLE TO ADOPT TO HOMES IN THE NORTHERN VA / MARYLAND / DC METRO AREA** We have adoption events EVERY SATURDAY from 12-3 p.m. Please note that not all dogs can attend every event, so if you are interested in meeting a particular dog, please complete a no-obligation application on our website at http://www.muttloverescue.org/application.html OR write to adopt@muttloverescue.org. I’m an adorable Collie/Husky mix — at least that’s everyone’s best guess! I came all the way from a crowded shelter in Alabama, and now I’m ready for the best part of my journey: finding a forever home of my very own! I’m a super friendly, playful, and affectionate guy who loves spending time with people. I’m also great with other dogs and would be thrilled to have some canine friends in my life. I’d love an active home where we can go on adventures, play, explore, and then settle in for some quality time together. With my Collie/Husky genes, there’s a pretty good chance I’m going to be one smart cookie, too! I’m ready to learn, have fun, and become someone’s loyal best friend. So, what do you say? Apply today and change this deserving boy’s life forever! I promise to bring plenty of love, fun, and tail wags along with me. Your new pet will require a refresher in house-training. K-9 Lifesavers strongly recommends all new adopters enroll their new pet into obedience training. This provides for an easier transition into a new home, ensures the dog remains well socialized, and helps form a bond between the dog and the new family.    Adoption fees cover basic vetting, rabies (if puppy is old enough), distemper/parvo vaccinations, deworming, monthly heartworm prevention while in our care (if old enough), monthly flea/tick prevention while in our care, and transport costs. K-9 Lifesavers will also cover the cost of spay/neuter at our partner vet at 6 months of age or reimburse adopter for up to the amount of our partner vet cost should you choose to spay/neuter at your own vet.Foster Program:    Foster homes provide for the temporary care of a rescue until the dog is placed into a loving, forever home.  For more information on becoming a foster parent, and our Foster Program, visit http://www.k-9lifesavers.org/foster/ or email our Foster Coordinator at foster@k-9lifesavers.orgSPONSOR ME! Help Save Lives!    Make a tax-deductible donation today and help save a life. Story
Meet Duffy — a gorgeous young collie with a bright smile, a playful spirit, and so much love to give to the right family. Born on October 13, 2024, Duffy is still very much a puppy at heart. At home with the people and dogs he knows, he is affectionate, silly, and incredibly loving. He adores snuggling on the sofa, handing out enthusiastic kisses, and spending his days playing with his canine friends. He requires a home with another young, playful dog and a large fenced yard where he can run, wrestle, and burn off his youthful energy. Duffy is also a smart and well-mannered boy. He is neutered, housebroken, well trained, and generally a wonderful house companion — though he does occasionally enjoy “redecorating” with any paper products he can find. Like many young dogs, he’s still discovering what counts as a toy! What Duffy truly needs, though, is a patient and understanding adopter. New people and unfamiliar environments can make him nervous, and he tends to express that uncertainty by barking. He is not aggressive at all, but he does need time, slow introductions, and consistency in order to feel safe and comfortable. Once he trusts you, his sweet and loyal personality shines through beautifully. Duffy is not the kind of dog who will walk into a new home and instantly act like he’s lived there forever. He’s the kind of dog whose trust is earned — and for the right person, that bond will be incredibly rewarding. Watching him grow in confidence and blossom into the happy, loving companion he wants to be is something very special. He’s also going to be absolutely stunning as he matures. Already tall and handsome, Duffy’s full collie coat is still coming in, and he is only getting more beautiful with age. Duffy is looking for a calm but active home, a playful dog companion, and people who understand that some sensitive dogs simply need a little extra time and patience. In return, he’ll give endless affection, loyalty, laughter, and love. If you are interested in rescuing a collie, please complete this short adoption questionnaire. Our standard adoption fee is $450. This fee helps us to cover (and sometimes only partially cover) the expense of providing each dog with a Health Exam, Rabies/DHPP vaccines, Heartworm Test, Heartworm Preventative, Flea & Tick Protection, Microchip, Neuter/Spay, a Bath and any other medical needs.  Thank you for your consideration in adopting a collie in need!!! Story
Jennifer and Jeffrey have already survived more than any puppy should. Born deep in the woods to a stray mother, they spent their first weeks hidden away from the world. Little Jennifer was found after wandering out of the woods on her own, and the very next day, her brother Jeffrey followed. To give any remaining puppies the best chance of survival, Animal Control has chosen not to immediately trap their mother. Instead, they are carefully monitoring the area and safely rescuing each puppy as they emerge from the woods. Now safe and receiving the care they need, Jennifer and Jeffrey are beginning the next chapter of their lives. They are sweet, resilient puppies who deserve to know what it's like to have full bellies, soft beds, and families who will love them forever. Their journey started in the wilderness, but their future belongs in a home.Accuracy is not guaranteed; however, information provided is accurate to the best of our knowledge.  For more information on the pet, please send an email to info@aforeverhome.org August 25, 2026, 9:14 pm

Story
Dutchess is an incredibly sweet, gentle girl with a wonderful balance of playful energy and calm companionship. She loves spending time with people, happily soaking up pets and affection, and she’s just as content relaxing by your side as she is joining in the fun.  We estimate her to be about 8 years old.  One of Duchess’s favorite things is food! She has an excellent appetite, eats enthusiastically, and seems to have a very high metabolism. Mealtime is definitely one of the highlights of her day. When she’s with other dogs, Duchess enjoys running and playing. Most of the time she’s calm and mellow, but every so often she’ll surprise you by springing into the air with all four feet off the ground before taking off in pursuit of her playmates. That playful burst of excitement is always fun to watch and perfectly complements her otherwise easygoing personality. Duchess takes cues from the other dogs around her but also has an independent streak. Sometimes she’ll head outside the moment you ask, while other times she’ll decide she’d rather stay put. However, once you clip on a leash, she walks gently and compliantly wherever you lead her—even if it wasn’t the direction she originally wanted to go. Thunderstorms can still make Duchess a little uneasy, but she’s making steady progress and continues to gain confidence. She’s also a dream to groom. Duchess patiently sits while being brushed and seems to enjoy the attention, making grooming sessions easy and relaxing for everyone involved. Overall, Duchess is a loving, adaptable dog who would fit well with a family looking for a companion that can switch effortlessly between playful adventures and quiet cuddle time. Her sweet nature, gentle manners, and affectionate personality make her a joy to have around. If you are interested in rescuing a collie, please complete this short adoption questionnaire. Story
Hi, I’m Smiley—and I think my name suits me pretty well. If you look closely, you’ll notice my adorable little grin, but it’s my big brown eyes that usually do all the talking. They’ve seen a lot, but they’re still full of hope that my forever family is out there. I’m a 7-year-old Border Collie mix, which means I’m just barely a senior and still have plenty of adventures, walks, and cuddle sessions ahead of me. I can be a little shy when I first meet new people, but if you’ll give me a little patience and let me get to know you at my own pace, I promise you’re in for something really special. Trust is a gift I’d love to share with the right person. Once I know you’re my friend, you’ll discover that I’m the sweetest boy around. I absolutely love snuggling up with my soft, squeaky toys and I’m perfectly happy entertaining myself for a while. But don’t worry—I have plenty of room in my heart for cuddle sessions, kisses, and just being close to my favorite people. I’m a little goofy, a little independent, and a whole lot of lovable. One of my favorite things to do is go for walks. I stroll nicely on a leash without pulling because I’m much more interested in taking my time, sniffing all the wonderful smells, and enjoying the trails. Every walk is a new adventure, and I’d love to have someone to explore the world with. If you already have a dog at home, that’s even better! I absolutely LOVE other dogs and would be thrilled to have a canine buddy to share life with. As for cats, I’m not sure what I’d think since I haven’t met any yet. I’m also healing beautifully. My skin and fur are growing back after recovering from Demodex and a flea allergy, and every day I’m looking and feeling a little better. My outside is catching up to the sweet boy I’ve always been on the inside. All I’m really looking for is someone who believes that the best things in life are worth waiting for. If you’ll give me the time to trust you, I’ll give you my whole heart in return. I can’t wait to meet the person who sees past my shy beginning and discovers the loyal, loving best friend I’ve been waiting to become.

Meet Carmie! 💕 QUIZ: DO YOU QUALIFY FOR THE CARMIE VIP LIFESTYLE? Some dogs are built for any old boring routine. Carmie? She requires a fun and active lifestyle. If you answer YES to the following criteria, you might just be the chosen one destined to adopt this Laughing Buddha lookalike. YOUR HOME IS A "NO PETS, ALL PEOPLE" SANCTUARY • The Lifestyle Fit: You want a ride-or-die canine companion, and your home is free of other dogs and felines. • The Carmie Reality: Carmie wants to be the undisputed center of your companion animal universe. In return, she offers universal love. She is obsessed with all humans—every age, shape, size, and color. If your lifestyle involves hosting friends, greeting neighbors, and being the popular house on the block, Carmie will act as your official welcoming committee. YOU WANT AN ADVENTURE CO-PILOT • The Lifestyle Fit: Your weekends involve road trips, exploring new places, and occasional home improvement projects—and you like a clean car. • The Carmie Reality: Carmie has a 100% perfect track record of never getting carsick. She is crate and potty trained, handles road trips like a seasoned pro, and knows plenty of commands (which she will happily perform... when she feels like it). Her favorite places include Lowe’s and Home Depot, where she charms shoppers with her Laughing Buddha smile and crinkly eyes. YOU’RE HAPPY TO SHARE CHORES • The Lifestyle Fit: You find laundry tedious, wish you had a fuzzy foreman to supervise, and wouldn’t mind a canine surveillance camera either. • The Carmie Reality: This 1-year-old, 40-pound, adorable girl has that cattle dog vibe and loves jobs. She actively helps get clothes out of the dryer and runs strict quality control to ensure no socks or underwear are left behind. Plus, she guarantees 100% protection against completely undetectable security breaches. YOU THINK "WALKIE-TALKIES" INVOLVE SNEAKERS, NOT RADIOS • The Lifestyle Fit: You view daily walks as an engaging team sport, not a mindless chore where you stare at your phone. • The Carmie Reality: Carmie is working hard on her leash reactivity and needs an active handler who can continue her "Walkie-Talkies"—structured walks where we train with high-value treats. She would also benefit from a fenced-in yard where she can zoom safely when she’s not out on official training missions. YOU DON’T TAKE LIFE (OR TOOTS) TOO SERIOUSLY • The Lifestyle Fit: You have an easy sense of humor and want a dog who makes you laugh whether she means to or not. • The Carmie Reality: Carmie is the reigning champion of Mrs. Steal-Your-Seat. You’ve been warned. You must also be okay with a dog who occasionally startles herself with her own toots and literally "talks" back when she's annoyed with you. THE VERDICT • If you answered NO: No hard feelings! The Carmie Reality isn't for everyone. • If you answered YES: You have found your canine soulmate. Carmie has a managed heart condition (ventricular arrhythmia), but that doesn't slow her down. She just needs a family who will commit to her medication schedule. As she’s not quite a puppy and not quite an adult, Carmie also needs pet parents who will continue her good dog training. She comes with six virtual training sessions with a certified trainer in the first 60 days to help you start off strong together! And the secret weapons to getting her to behave are ham and cheese and cheek scratches.
