Story
1.5 years old, 49 lbs Personality: gentle, goofy/funny, outgoing, good running partner, and snuggler. Meet Jake! This curious, affectionate pup is a champion sniffer, a good athlete and runner, a dedicated cuddler, and eager as a beaver to learn from the humans and animals around him. He sits, cuddles, and lies down in the weirdest positions, and loves being close to his humans. Smart Jake is on a self improvement journey! He knows the words “sit,” “wait,” “lie down” and “off," and is working on “stay.” He’s house trained and is working diligently to perfect his leash manners — having quiet walking routes helps! Calm but active, Jake loves playing with other dogs, including his foster brother, but would do best in a home without cats. If he had his way, Jake would be right by your side all the time — but he’s very comfortable in his crate at night and is trusted uncrated during the workday. Does this gentle, goofy guy sound like a good fit for your home? Apply today to meet Jake! ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ City Dogs & City Kitties Rescue is a foster-based rescue in Washington, DC. Story
Charlie is a good dog who got a bad start.  We have no knowledge of his history and where he came from, but we are pretty sure he has not lived in a house with people.  When he first came to us, he hid from the dishwasher, barked at the television and ran away when first presented with stuffed toys.  He remains easily spooked by noise, but is improving – getting used to the dishwasher, the television, the stuffed dog toys and other day-to-day items in the house.  Physically, he was in pretty bad condition - He was positive for tick illnesses (we gave him Doxy and he is doing bettter now), his coat and skin were in horrible condition (we've given him good nutrition and he's looking a lot better), his teeth were Grade 3 dental disease (we gave him a dental and they are all clean now)!  Charlie weighs about 63 lbs. Charlie is a quick learner, and is adapting to life in a home with his foster collie sister.  He is learning commands and is starting to recognize his name.  We do not crate him, but leave it open and he often sleeps in there.  He is respectful of the house and items in it, and does not jump on the furniture.  He is very cooperative - He pretty much will stand still for almost anything if you ask him to especially if you scratch him – he loves to be scratched.  He grooms well, and is very affectionate.  His fur is growing in nicely since he needed to have some extensive matting shaved.   He’s very focused on understanding and fitting into his new environment.  He watches intensely and you can see the wheels turning as he tries to figure it all out.  He is interested in other dogs and people, and has shown no aggression toward either – but he will bark in the backyard at passing people (and squirrels) with his sister, who loves to do that.  He has shown interest in playing with other dogs, though we have not yet allowed that. Charlie is quite smart and very eager to please. We estimate his age to be about 6 years old.  If you are interested in rescuing a collie, please complete this short adoption questionnaire. Our standard adoption fee is $450. This fee helps us to cover (and sometimes only partially cover) the expense of providing each dog with a Health Exam, Rabies/DHPP vaccines, Heartworm Test, Heartworm Preventative, Flea & Tick Protection, Microchip, Neuter/Spay, a Bath and any other medical needs.  Thank you for your consideration in adopting a collie in need!!! Story
Born: October 13, 2024 Duffy is a beautiful, smiley young man, who will turn one year old in October 2025. He is a sweet and cuddly guy, who snuggles on the sofa and gives lavish loving kisses. Duffy loves all other dogs and his family - but he is skittish around new people, though, and new places, and needs slow, secure introductions.Duffy is neutered, housebroken, well trained, and except for his penchant for finding fun new toys in the house - preferably paper! - exceptionally well behaved. He’s on the tall side for a collie, and is going to be stunning when his full coat comes in! Duffy is looking for a patient and active family, with someone nonstop to play with, and a big yard. He is a gift who will be well worth the time to earn his trust.  If you are interested in rescuing a collie, please complete this short adoption questionnaire. Our standard adoption fee is $450. Story
Lenny is a fairly new arrival to his foster home, and he is doing great! He is a well-mannered adult collie, housebroken, smart, and loving. He plays well with his collie foster siblings and is great at turn taking. He is very much a Velcro dog, following his foster mom everywhere she goes! He’s affectionate and gives little kisses. Lenny loves hiking in the snow, and bursts into play regularly! He’s a neutered male and is doing well with dogs of all genders and ages. He is very polite in the house, knows “sit,” walks well on a leash, and rides well in a car. In public he is confident and curious and wants to meet all the people! If you are interested in rescuing a collie, please complete this short adoption questionnaire. Story
Stevie is a 3-year-old mixed breed (Australian Cattle Dog, Boxer, Chow, Beagle, Collie, Shar Pei) whom I adopted from a shelter at 10 months old. She's become a local celebrity here where I live! She really stands out for her unique personality and appearance. She has manageable seizures, controlled by medication. Her insurance is transferable and covers 90% of costs for only $60 @ month premium! The seizures have been short, less than 60 seconds, and have been averaging about one every 2 or 3 months, but has gone 6 months without one. She's on a newer medication and it appears to be working better. Originally cared for with my daughter and son, changes in their availability and my increased work obligations have made it challenging for me to continue caring for her. She's VERY confident, trained, and never strays from your side. She loves car rides, camping, hiking, city crowds, restaurants, breweries, shopping, and always draws attention when we're out. She' playful with other dogs

Story
Current Location: Union Bridge, MD Meet Edgar Edgar is a one year old Border Collie and he is everything you would hope for in one of the most brilliant breeds on the planet. Playful, friendly, attentive, and almost unnervingly smart, Edgar is the kind of dog who is always thinking, always watching, and always ready for whatever comes next. He already knows sit, down, and paw, and he picks up new things with the kind of speed that will genuinely impress you. He is food motivated and deeply eager to please, which makes training him an absolute joy. He responds well to correction, takes direction beautifully, and brings his whole self to every interaction. When Edgar decides you are his person, you will feel it. This boy needs to move and think. Long walks, active play, and plenty of mental stimulation are not negotiable for Edgar, they are what he was built for. He would absolutely thrive in dog sports like agility, barn hunt, or obedience rallies. Anything fast, fun, and challenging is going to bring out the very best in him. An active family who loves to get outside and do things will find the most incredible partner in Edgar. But here is the thing about Border Collies that Edgar demonstrates perfectly. After a good run and a solid play session, he is more than happy to settle in and snuggle up with you for a movie night. He works hard and he rests well, and that balance makes him a genuinely wonderful companion for everyday life. He is house trained, crate trained, good with other dogs, great with kids, and friendly with new people. He does not mind being left alone, which speaks to his overall confidence and stability. He is loyal, engaged, and deeply interested in being close to his people whenever he can be. Edgar is not looking for just any home. He is looking for a family that will match his energy, challenge his mind, and reward his tremendous heart. If that sounds like you, Edgar is going to be the best decision you ever made.

Story
Current Location: Nokesville, VA Hello there! My name is Winter, and I’m as magical as my name suggests ❄️🐾 I arrived at my OPH foster home on 2/18. I'm settling in and showing everyone just how sweet, playful, and snuggly I am. Be sure to check back for updates on my blossoming personality and, of course, plenty of adorable photos! A Little About Me… I’m a happy, curious puppy who loves to play ball! Toss it once, and I’ll be your biggest fan forever. Fetch time is the best time, especially when I get to celebrate with tail wags and puppy zoomies. I’m also a very special girl because I’m deaf — but don’t worry, that just means I’m learning the world in my own amazing way. I’m currently working hard to learn hand signals, and I’m super smart! With patience, love, and consistency, I’ll pick them up in no time. If you’d like to learn more about the joys of living with and training a deaf dog, check out Deaf Dogs Rock — they have wonderful resources and inspiration. I’m Searching For… 🐾 A patient home where I won’t be left alone for more than about four hours (at least until I’m older). I’m still a puppy, which means if I get bored or lonely, I might accidentally make “creative decorating choices.” I promise I’m not naughty — just young! 🐾 A forever family — not a “for right now” family. As I grow, I’ll need guidance, structure, and lots of encouragement to become the very best dog I can be. Teaching me tricks like sit, stay, and come (with hand signals!) would be so much fun. Professional training would help us bond and set us up for success together. 🐾 And most importantly… love. I’m dreaming of a mom or dad who will snuggle with me, play ball with me, cheer me on while I learn, and love me forever and ever. I’m ready for my happily-ever-after. Could that be with you? If so, don’t wait — this kind of sweetness (and cuteness!) won’t be available for long. 💕
