Spearmint is a gentle, sensitive boy with a heart ready to blossom. He was rescued from a rural shelter in South Carolina alongside his brothers, Peppermint and Wintermint, where the trio was understandably very scared and unsure of what was happening to them. Since leaving the shelter, Spearmint has already begun to show just how much potential he has. While he is still undersocialized and learning that humans can be kind and safe, he’s making progress every day. He can be pet and picked up, though he may still tremble when he’s feeling unsure—he just needs a little time, patience, and reassurance. With the right family, Spearmint is going to grow into a truly stunning and devoted companion. He’s looking for adopters who will be understanding as he gains confidence. Spearmint does wonderfully with other dogs and would greatly benefit from having a confident canine friend in the home to help show him the ropes and continue building his confidence. He is not yet walking on a leash, but we suspect it will be soon. A fenced in yard would be helpful, although not required. He is at a perfect age to grow his trust more quickly with a family. With love, patience, and a little guidance, this sweet boy is really going to shine. We got Samson a year ago from Cumberland valley animal shelter in Chambersburg PA. He is all up to date on shots and is neutered. He absolutely loves to run and play fetch with his sticks. He listens very well and comes back when you call him almost immediately. Very loving, sweet and attention seeking, looking for a home with plenty on room to run and explore and with active and loving owners!

While he is timid with people right now, he’s already showing wonderful signs of growth—he’s curious, willing to explore, and makes sure to keep his people within eyesight as he builds trust. Peppermint is looking for a patient adopter who understands that confidence takes time and is willing to help him continue blossoming at his own pace. With gentle encouragement and a consistent routine, this sweet boy has all the potential to grow into a loyal, devoted companion. He does very well with other dogs and seems to take comfort in their presence, often watching and learning from them. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. 2nd Chance 4 Life Rescue is primarily a sanctuary for senior and medically needy dogs. Every once in awhile you will see younger dogs but for the most part our dogs live out their life at the ranch at the request of their previous owners or their owners families. We have many sponsorship dogs. Our sponsors love to keep in touch and know how their sponsored fur buddy is doing :) When we have foster families we are thrilled to be able to take adoptable younger dogs :) So if you have ever thought about becoming fosters please feel free to go to our foster/volunteer page and fill out an application. The Ranch located at 737 Taylor Rd., Windsor, PA is always looking for dedicated volunteers that will commit to at least a 2 hour shift per week at the rescue. Volunteers work in play yards, help with laundry and feeding. Some enjoy landscaping or carpentry projects and some like to bake for the healing center visitors :) Thank you for supporting our mission of caring for the elderly and medically needy souls that need us! Koda and Niko have been together their whole lives and we are not going to separate them. :) They absolutely adore each other and you never see one without the other close by. Niko is a shepherd mix and he is 10. Koda is a border collie mix and he is 7.
