Story
Meet Toby Keith. Almost 3 yrs, DOB 7/2/22 Tri-colored, neutered and fully vaccinated. Toby Keith is wonderful with dogs of all sizes, cats and children. He is super active, high drive, squirrel hunter, and ball chaser and catch mid air specialist. He is super smart, with sit, down, shake, come, hush, kennel up, car rides and heel when he goes on walks. Toby Keith has one requirement. he must be fed in his crate or separately as he does resource guard. We’ve seen no issues with sharing toys or humans. We had Toby Keith DNA’d and love that he came back 75% collie. The other 25% are all great herding breed combinations though I’m not quite seeing any Pyrenees. Toby Keith would excel at obedience or agility. He’d also be happy with an active family who loves to snuggle and chill on the couch.

Story
Meet Piper. 5.5-6 yrs old. She’s been fully vetted and is ready for adoption. Piper came from a local shelter as a stray. Her medical has been lengthy and expensive as she went through heartworm treatment and had entropian surgery for one of her eyes. That’s where they fix the eyelashes from rolling inward and scratching the eye causing it to weep from irritation. She’s all healthy and feeling great. Piper is sweet, playful and mostly obedient. She is completely housebroken. Though Piper likes to play with other dogs she needs to be in a no other dog home since she resource guards her food. She would just love having a person she can snuggle on the couch with. We had Piper DNA’d and she is 50/50 smooth collie & husky. You may apply for Piper at https://houstoncollierescue.org/ado.../adoption-application/ We adopt anywhere in Texas, OKC and Louisiana.

Story
Welcome Poppy! 51 lb, 1.5 years. We’ve had her fully vetted and spayed. At first, she is shy, nervous and bit overwhelmed, as expected. She was a bit grumbly when she first met the resident male dogs but that has all settled down. She attaches to her female human very quickly. She is very sweet and wants lots of petting. She walks fine on a leash, house trained, knows sit, come, wait and turn to name a few commands and just lays wonderfully for lots of brushing. We’ve seen no food aggression. She likes walks but can be afraid of cars and strange men not part of her house. She does not get on furniture but loves rugs and dog beds. She has found her voice barking at birds, squirrels and amazon deliveries. She prefers women and is wary of men but is making progress by laying at the feet of her foster dad. She does not like being crated but has been left out and so far, so good and sleeps at night in the bedroom with the other dogs. No chewing or misbehavior. She will play with a toy but prefers to run with the other dogs but then cuddles when resting. Poppy is available for adoption. Local adopters with indoor living and a fenced yard for exercise and going potty. Apply at houstoncollierescue.org

Story
Meet Peaches! Peaches is a beautiful 1.5-year-old sable and white female Collie. She’s spayed, fully up to date on her vaccinations, and ready to find her forever home! Peaches is a bit shy when meeting new people, but once she warms up, she forms a deep and loyal bond with her person. She thrives on human affection and clearly prefers one-on-one attention over the company of a pack. While she can be a bit jealous of other dogs at first, with time and patience, she learns to coexist peacefully. This sweet girl loves to play with her toys and chew on bones—but be warned, she has a soft spot for shoes and won’t hesitate to turn them into her next project! She’s fully house-trained and making great progress with crate training. Peaches enjoys car rides but can be a flight risk—she's quick to dart out the moment a door opens. Extra care and caution are essential when traveling with her. For her safety, a fully fenced yard is required. If you think Peaches could be the perfect addition to your family, apply today at www.houstoncollierescue.org.

Story
WE ADOPT IN TEXAS, OKLAHOMA AND LOUISIANA. Stevie is a 1.5 yr old male (born Christmas day 2023) that is looking for his forever family.  He is fully vetted, HW Negative and house trained. Stevie does still have some puppy like energy and would be best in a household with at least one other dog that he can play with.  He is currently being fostered in a home with multiple dogs, males and females and does well with all of them. He is timid when he first meets a new dog but so far, usually within 24 hours, he gets over it.  Almost immediately he then does everything in his powers to get them to play with him. Stevie, being just 1.5 years old is fully house trained and really does not bark very much, inside or outside.  He does have a playful side to him and is very curious.  He likes to stay active and if he gets bored, he does tend to get a little mischievous.  He definitely needs someone who has time to walk him and play with him.  If he is every left alone, he does well outside of a kennel if he has something to keep him busy.   Cognitive toys and exercises, to keep his mind busy (a treat puzzle, kong, etc.), seem to work really well.  While Stevie is playful (he bows down to other dogs and gets the zoomies a lot) he is very gentle when playing with people. He does not jump on anyone.  He will play tug-o-war and fetch with toys, but you do not have to worry about him pushing you or anyone over. Stevie does like feet! If he is ready to get up and he can get to your feet, he will lick or nibble on them. If you are putting on lotion, he will help! Also, if you have socks on and he decides that you shouldn’t he will attempt to remove them for you.  He has not been one to chew on socks, but he will play with them and sleep with them. However, if you substitute a sock with a toy, he seems to be just as happy. Also, if you have a shower that he can walk into, do not be surprised he is tries to join you or randomly enters the shower throughout the day. Stevie has not shown any food aggression and does well, eating next to other dogs and getting treats with the other dogs.  He is also gentle when taking food from your hand. He came from a home that had other dogs, cats and kids and while his foster home only has dogs, he has done well with cats and kids that he has encountered on his walks.  He walks well on a leash and doesn’t cause any issues when out for a walk. He is currently working on basic commands and does well when his training is one on one. Overall, especially for his young age, Stevie is a really good boy!  He seems eager to please and is so very friendly and loving.  Please apply at freedomcollierescue.org  ##2393901##

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. She is Xena The Warrior PrincessXena was born approximately July 15, 2021.  She is a GORGEOUS Border Collie/Rhodesian Ridgeback mix or Tri-Colored Rhodesian Ridgeback.  Her personality is true to her breed! Xena's foster mom and dad have 3 other dogs that she likes to play with and share toys with, but she has also learned to be by herself.  Her foster mom says she needs an active family with another dog or multiple dogs. Xena needs room to run to get her energy out.  She likes going for long walks and exploring the wilderness. Xena sleeps with her foster mom and dad in bed with all the other dogs. It gets a bit crowded but she does love sleeping with the pack. This makes her feel safe. Xena does not like to be in a kennel or crate.  So, a family that is at home would be ideal. She likes eating ice cubes!  Xena says 'When mom gives me fresh water in a bowl she puts in extra ice cubes for me. That makes me feel special and loved.'  Xena loves riding in a vehicle and knows not to jump around and act like a baby. She can walk on a leash pretty well as long as she has her harness on; Xena is not a fan of collars. She also knows a few commands like “stay”, “no” and “potty”.Xena will bark at strangers until she gets to know them.  Her foster dad has taught her to fetch.  She loves chasing the ball and bringing it back, it’s the letting it go part that she has a hard time with BECAUSE she also loves to play tug of war.  Xena is also a fan of the Laser Light.  She thinks they are fascinating!Xena is Special Needs because if and when she gets too excited she has seizures.  The vet attributes this to a blow to the head as a puppy.  Therefore, she needs to be in a home that understands how to deal with occasional seizures.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.October 25, 2024, 3:51 pm
