Story
Meet Piper. 5.5-6 yrs old. She’s been fully vetted and is ready for adoption. Piper came from a local shelter as a stray. Her medical has been lengthy and expensive as she went through heartworm treatment and had entropian surgery for one of her eyes. That’s where they fix the eyelashes from rolling inward and scratching the eye causing it to weep from irritation. She’s all healthy and feeling great. Piper is sweet, playful and mostly obedient. She is completely housebroken. Though Piper likes to play with other dogs she needs to be in a no other dog home since she resource guards her food. She would just love having a person she can snuggle on the couch with. We had Piper DNA’d and she is 50/50 smooth collie & husky. You may apply for Piper at https://houstoncollierescue.org/ado.../adoption-application/ We adopt anywhere in Texas, OKC and Louisiana.

Story
Welcome Poppy! 51 lb, 1.5 years. We’ve had her fully vetted and spayed. At first, she is shy, nervous and bit overwhelmed, as expected. She was a bit grumbly when she first met the resident male dogs but that has all settled down. She attaches to her female human very quickly. She is very sweet and wants lots of petting. She walks fine on a leash, house trained, knows sit, come, wait and turn to name a few commands and just lays wonderfully for lots of brushing. We’ve seen no food aggression. She likes walks but can be afraid of cars and strange men not part of her house. She does not get on furniture but loves rugs and dog beds. She has found her voice barking at birds, squirrels and amazon deliveries. She prefers women and is wary of men but is making progress by laying at the feet of her foster dad. She does not like being crated but has been left out and so far, so good and sleeps at night in the bedroom with the other dogs. No chewing or misbehavior. She will play with a toy but prefers to run with the other dogs but then cuddles when resting. Poppy is available for adoption. Local adopters with indoor living and a fenced yard for exercise and going potty. Apply at houstoncollierescue.org

Story
Grace’s journey to safety is nothing short of remarkable. Found living outside a rural Arkansas gas station, she had been surviving entirely on her own. Severely underweight at just 29 pounds, she arrived in rescue shy, exhausted, and unsure of what kindness felt like. Once welcomed into a warm home, Grace blossomed. She quickly discovered the joys of soft beds, full bowls, and gentle hands. Her initial shyness has melted into a sweet, affectionate personality. Grace loves love. She leans in for soft pets, follows her people with quiet devotion, and radiates gratitude in everything she does. She’s wonderful with other dogs and has been very sweet and respectful toward the resident cat. Her collie nature shines through in her intelligence, sensitivity, and unmistakably gentle spirit. Grace is house trained and crate trained. She settles nicely in her crate, though she may give a few soft barks at first before relaxing. She has gained healthy weight and is feeling stronger every day. She is currently undergoing treatment for heartworm disease, and the rescue will cover all of her care. She has already been spayed and vaccinated. Despite everything she has endured, she remains soft, trusting, and beautifully resilient. With continued love and patience this girl is truly going to shine. We estimate Grace to be 5 years old.   Now she is ready for the chapter she has always deserved, her very own forever home filled with love.If you are looking for a loyal companion with a tender heart and a story that will stay with you, Grace is waiting. ##2602287##

Story
If you would like more information about Riften or are interested in adopting her, please send an email to colemunoz123@gmail.com Riften is a sweet 2-year-old herding-breed mix (Aussie/Collie-type). She is gentle and affectionate, no aggression observed. She appears to have had prior neglect and is still adjusting to being well cared for. Riften is partially house trained and improving. Due to significant stress and health concerns for a resident small dog, we are hoping to have Riften rehomed with a great family who can spoil her. Story
Lily is an 18 month old Collie / Australian Cattle Dog mix who loves learning with her person! At just 41 lbs, she is agile, fine boned, and petite with velvety-soft short fur and the sweetest eyes. Lily would prefer a home without cats and small animals. She would like to be the only object of her person’s affection, or have a dog friend who is bigger than her and doesn’t mind some rough-and-tumble play at times. She likes to rule the roost, but will accept redirection from dogs who are larger than her. Lily loves to sit in your lap, but won’t smother you with kisses. She just wants to be close to you. Since Lily is 50% Cattle Dog, she is very intelligent but also cautious of new situations, choosing to observe and settle in with her person rather than burst into the room with gusto. She is enrolled with AKC Canine Partners which means she can use her excellent brain to compete in a variety of AKC events. She has even already started Scent Work training! Lily is so smart, she knows how to open some gates and wire crates to let her friends out to play with her, or get the remaining tidbits of food they left over. A simple clip keeps that from happening. Lily is crate trained, but instead sleeps in a doggie-safe room at night and while unsupervised. She walks well on a leash and sticks close to her person. She prefers treats over toys (especially those with stuffing…she operates on them quite quickly!) and is very food motivated. Her current family will help make the transition successful and give you tips on keeping Lily’s mind sharp and engaged. Ready for a loving companion who will watch a movie with you, but also get you off your feet to train and play? Apply to adopt Lily at houstoncollierescue.org.
