Story
Ben is a five-year-old dachshund who has special needs. In June 2024, he unfortunately slipped a disc, causing paralysis of his hind legs. Because of this, he requires a hands on owner who can assist him with using the bathroom. I don’t want to give him up, but I am not able to give him the proper care that he needs now and it has been a lot on me with the work in my personal schedule. He is in great spirits but it has just become too much for me to handle. He’s a sweet boy whose love language is physical touch (lol). He loves to cuddle & neck rubs. We have a wheelchair for him as well.

Story
❗ Current Location: in a foster home in South Korea❗ Meet Lylla :) • She rides so well that if you open the car door she gets in by herself, and she doesn't get car sick at all. If you like traveling she would make a really good buddy! • She loves playing with other dogs, running in the park, cuddles, kisses, sleeping with you, walks, hikes, and delicious food (fruit, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, cheese, meat) and treats! • Personality: She is affectionate, full of energy, loves to have fun, and adapts well to new things. She likes both people and dogs and cats (she'll play with them). She also loves to play in the park or the mountains. When she's excited, she'll purr to show her excitement. She loves to be held - she wants to fall asleep with you in your arms. She's the best dog ever!

Story
Please contact Jodi Rosenberg (jodi.rosenberg@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.sweet boy ISO fresh start and love! PEANUT BUTTER NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!! Name:  Peanut Butter      Best Guess for Breed:   Dachshund and retriever mix    Best Guess for Age:  4.5 years as of March 2025        SEX:   Male   Approximate Weight:   21 lbs   Gets Along With:  Other dogs! Peanut Butter has lived with cats in the home. We haven't seen him kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters!   Currently Living at:   South Carolina shelter; needs a foster or forever home in the DC area to get up here after completing heartworm treatment.   Special adoption considerations: Peanut Butter is a truly Lucky Dog. Although he has tested positive for heartworms, treatment has been scheduled! Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites. Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. Heartworm dogs can resume full active and normal lives, but need to be kept calm for 4-6 weeks after treatment.  We are happy to talk more in depth about heartworm disease and treatment during the screening process.    Peanut Butter is Looking For:  His forever home. This sweetie ended up in a shelter through no fault of his own - and he's closed that chapter. He's eager to once again have his own humans for long sniffy walks and all the adventures they can dream up.  A cushy dog bed, quality kibble (yes, some peanut butter too!), lots of snugs - yep, all on his wish list too. But as a wise, experienced dog, he knows what's most important in life: To be safe and loved and under his own roof. He's got so much to offer in exchange - adoring gazes and loyal companionship, definitely, but he also promises to make you smile every day. What do you say? Are you Peanut Butter's soft landing? Is he the one for your home and your heart?  What My Foster Says About Me:  We will update this once he has arrived in the DC area and spent some time in foster care.    Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT:    The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment.  If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at bit.ly/adoptaluckydog   Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption. Name:  Kaleidoscope     Best Guess for Breed:  Dachshund and beagle mix Best Guess for Age: 3 years as of April 2025      Gender:  Male Approximate Weight:   26 lbs Gets Along With:  Other dogs!  We haven't seen him with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters! Currently Living At: Lucky Dog's South Carolina rescue campus; needs a foster or forever home in the DC area to come up after completing heartworm treatment.  Special Adoption Considerations: Kaleidoscope is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs.  All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care.  After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months.  We are happy to discuss this treatment and which phase of the study this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator - the address is at lower left! Kaleidoscope is Looking For:His forever home! This sweetie is eagerly looking forward to having his own humans for sniffy walks (his nose IS awfully close to the ground to start with!) and all the adventures they can dream up. And dog school so he can show how super smart he is. And then pets and cuddles and belly scritches at the end of a fun day together. And he'll want quality kibble and a cushy dog bed. Most of all, though, he wants to know he's safe and loved. In exchange he promises all the adoring gazes and happy tail wags he's storing up, and loyal companionship for all his days. What do you say? Is Kaleidoscope the one you see by your side? What My Foster Says About Me: We will update this once he has arrived in the DC area and spent some time with his foster. Please contact Nancy Anderson (nancya@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.sweet girl seeking fresh start and love! RISE NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!! Name:  Rise      Best Guess for Breed: Dachshund and terrier mix Best Guess for Age: 5 years as of December 2024       Gender:   Female Approximate Weight:   23 lbs Gets Along With: Rise does well with other dogs! We do not recommend her for a home with cats.  Currently Living At: DC area foster home  Special Adoption Considerations: Rise is shy - she came from Puerto Rico and this environment is very new to her! In certain home settings - where the environment might be louder or more intense - she would do better with another dog in the home to give her confidence.  Rise is Looking For: Her forever family! She was very relieved to be rescued off the streets in Puerto Rico and is eagerly awaiting her forever home. Sniffy walks, romps in parks, all the adventures her new family can dream up - yes please!  And in exchange, she promises all the love in her little body, all the adoring gazes and kisses she can muster, and loyal companionship for all her days. What do you say? Can you see her trotting along on her little legs by your side? What My Foster Says About Me: This sweet soul is the perfect blend of calm and affectionate, winning hearts with her endearing habits of gently nuzzling into her humans, greeting you at the door with her wiggle-butt, and rolling over for belly rubs. She walks well on a leash, though she occasionally needs a moment to adjust to loud noises and may be a little shy at first with strangers approaching her on the street. She lives peacefully with a resident dog, although they both prefer to mind her own business rather than engage in play so far. She is even perfect at getting her nails trimmed and getting a bath! When left alone, she's content and quiet. She does love her food and treats which is always a great incentive for training purposes. At the end of the day, Rise loves nothing more than curling up and relaxing in her cozy dog bed with plush blankets, where her adorable quiet snores will melt your heart. If you're looking for a peaceful, well-adjusted companion who brings both joy and tranquility to the home, Rise might be your perfect match! Medical:  Rise was heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky!
