Story
Please contact Destiny Sibert (DestinyS@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.HEMLOCK   Male19 lbsBest guess for age: 6.5 years as of October 2023Best guess for breed: Dachshund mix     Hemlock was loved before he arrived in the shelter. He lived indoors. This is what his foster says about how she knew:   'Hemlock was confused and scared when arrived on transport from the shelter, but he adjusted quickly and started asking for love very fast. The morning after he arrived, he came to me when I was on the floor and started giving me kisses. And he started following me around, asking for pets. And later that afternoon, he tentatively put his front paws on my lap and looked at me, giving me kisses. Then picked up his back legs, climbed into me, and curled up, sighing. He'd decided I was to be trusted.    From the start, whenever I walked to the kitchen he'd rush over to see if there might be anything in it for him. He knows what comes out of kitchens! And whenever I work on my computer, he's chilling at my feet. The moment I sit on the sofa or the floor he comes over, asking for pets.    He knows outside is for potty and has not had any accidents. Lucky Dog fosters crate foster dogs overnight and when they're out of the home, and he has been great in the crate - he just settles down and is quiet until I let him out. He's probably lived with other dogs as well. I have two of my own; he ignores them but knows his place in the pack. He doesn't enjoy playing with dogs; he's all about his humans. They all are respectful of each other.    I don't think he has had a lot of experience walking on leash around a city. He's been so brave in venturing a little farther every time I take him for a walk, his little tail wagging a bit. Metrobuses and construction trucks driving by are scary, but he's still up for learning the new world around him. He's still on exercise restriction for heartworm treatment right now so I haven't tried to take him far. But he is definitely eager to sniff and explore - he will enjoy walks after he has fully recovered!   Hemlock is still nervous in some settings. He doesn't like busy environments, loud noises, or rambunctious dogs, and that's understandable. I think he came from a calm home where he knew he was safe and loved. Now he has to learn everything all over again. He is so eager to once again have his own home, his own humans. He is just so calm and chill, the perfect at-home buddy. He has so much love to give, so much adoration in his gaze. In exchange, he asks for love and a peaceful home. His forever family and he will be so lucky to have each other.'   Gets Along With:  Hemlock coexists peacefully with other dogs. We haven't seen him with kids or cats but he can be tested.   Special adoption considerations: Hemlock is a truly Lucky Dog! He tested positive for Heartworm disease but has already been treated! Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites.  Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. We are happy to talk more in depth about heartworm disease and treatment during the screening process.   Currently Living At: DC area foster home   Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT:    The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment.  If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at bit.ly/adoptaluckydog   Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption. Story
My name is Braelynn and I am a beautiful little Dachshund girl that is 11 years old and I have lost my sweet senior momma recently. I am so sad to be looking for a new home since my momma passed away.  I am a little on the chunky side and my foster mom says that I am the sweetest and most well behaved, calm Dachshund ever.   I am totally healthy and happy and housebroken and waiting for golden home to spend my golden years left.  Critter Cavalry updated me on all my shots, microchipped me, gave me a dental and did bloodwork.  I got the health and beauty WORKS! So now could someone put me under their holiday tree and give me a present of a new home!?  Could that be you by Christmas?   Contact Critter  Cavalry at Ccrnewengland.com ASAP because I know there are lots of people who will want me!   PLEASE NOTE:  Our dogs are transported from Tennessee to meeting places in the states where we have posted.  Further information about us is given on our Adopt-A-Pet site.  The adoption fees vary and will be provided as well as noted on the application you receive.  Contact us at 615-661-5333 or ccrnewengland@gmail.comDecember 7, 2023, 1:37 pm

He is a super friendly, active little fellow hoping to find that special place he can call home. He just wants someone to love and depend on. He is good with dogs and has lived with a cat before, so he won’t mind being one of the pack.  Despite being listed as a "dachsund chihuahia mix," he has long, slender legs and is taller than his 15-20 lb would suggest.  MP likes to "talk," so probably not a great choice for an apartment.  Take a chance on this sweet boy, and he’ll give you years of unconditional love and devotion!Your new pet will require a refresher in house-training. K-9 Lifesavers strongly recommends all new adopters enroll their new pet into obedience training. This provides for an easier transition into a new home, ensures the dog remains well socialized, and helps form a bond between the dog and the new family.    Adoption fees cover basic vetting, rabies (if puppy is old enough), distemper/parvo vaccinations, deworming, monthly heartworm prevention while in our care (if old enough), monthly flea/tick prevention while in our care, and transport costs. K-9 Lifesavers will also cover the cost of spay/neuter at our partner vet at 6 months of age or reimburse adopter for up to the amount of our partner vet cost should you choose to spay/neuter at your own vet.       Foster Program:    Foster homes provide for the temporary care of a rescue until the dog is placed into a loving, forever home.  For more information on becoming a foster parent, and our Foster Program, visit http://www.k-9lifesavers.org/foster/ or email our Foster Coordinator at foster@k-9lifesavers.orgSPONSOR ME! Help Save Lives!    Make a tax-deductible donation today and help save a life.
