Story
If your ideal dog sounds like “tiny little emotional support shadow that quietly follows you from room to room looking adorable,” then Crouton Cutie might honestly be your girl. This sweet little lady has one of those soft comforting presences that instantly makes a house feel calmer. Between the forever puppy dog face, the tiny little donut curls she does in her bed, and the way she just wants to quietly exist beside her favorite people, Crouton has this gentle lovable energy that sneaks up on your heart really fast. She’s not loud, demanding, or over-the-top. She’s just a very sweet little dog that wants love, consistency, cozy spots to nap, and people she can trust.
Watch her video and prepare to immediately want to tuck her into a blanket burrito forever: https://youtu.be/FoadSYsOy7M?si=U3zC7-_YNEggf6Fg
Crouton Cutie is believed to be a Dachshund/Chihuahua mix approximately 2 years old and currently weighs 22 lbs. She is a rescue dog and with any rescue, it’s always a mystery and we cannot guarantee breed or age. What we CAN guarantee though is that this girl has mastered the art of looking at you with those giant soulful eyes like she’s known you forever. Honestly, she has one of those faces that makes people immediately start talking softer around her.
Crouton is very sweet and affectionate once she feels comfortable, but she can initially be a little shy in brand new environments or with new people. Nothing extreme at all, she just likes a second to observe, take it all in, and realize everything is safe before fully opening up socially. In her foster home, it took her about a day before her personality really started shining through and once it did? She became the sweetest little velcro companion ever. She absolutely adores her people and loves being near them. Whether she’s curled up beside you on the couch, following you around the house, or snoozing peacefully in her favorite dog bed while you work nearby, Crouton just genuinely enjoys companionship and closeness.
With other dogs, Crouton has done well and has been very respectful and easygoing overall. She’s friendly, calm, and perfectly happy coexisting around other dogs, but she doesn’t really seem overly interested in constant interaction or roughhousing. She’s much more of a people’s dog than anything else. In a home, she would likely do best with lower-energy respectful dogs that naturally give space and don’t pressure her into interaction while she continues building confidence and settling in. Honestly though, Crouton seems completely content just quietly hanging out nearby while everyone does their own thing.
She also met our house cat Biggie and met him appropriately and was very respectful around him. She did not chase Biggie, nor was she bothered by Biggie jumping or doing what cats do. Biggie also felt comfortable around her as well. We do not know if she has ever lived in a home before with a cat and this was our first time seeing her with a cat. If you have a cat in the home, we can arrange for her to have a sleepover with a cat upon request. Just let us know!
Crouton has really nice house manners too. She is potty trained, has not had any accidents in her foster home, rides wonderfully in the car, and is trusted to free roam while left alone. She’s not the biggest fan of being kenneled and honestly seems happiest when she can comfortably lounge around the house instead. Her foster is home often and is able to provide frequent potty breaks, which has helped her be very successful in her routine.
Energy-wise, Crouton is beautifully balanced and more on the medium-to-low energy side overall. She absolutely has a playful side and enjoys playing with toys, and every now and then she’ll get the cutest little mini zoomies LOL. But overall, she’s much more of a calm cozy companion type.
Crouton could likely do well either in an apartment setting or in a home with a backyard as long as she’s with someone patient, kind, and home often enough to continue helping her feel secure and settled. We especially think she’d thrive with someone who works from home or someone looking for that loyal little sidekick to quietly keep them company throughout the day. She truly feels like one of those dogs that doesn’t need a huge flashy life to be happy. She just wants love, comfort, safety, and her favorite people nearby. And honestly? There’s something really special about a dog like that.
We are willing to test Crouton Cutie with anything you need in order to ensure it's a perfect match. We can make anything happen! Just let us know.
