Story
***Apollo is currently at our facility in Georgia but also available for adoption in the New Jersey and surrounding areas. To apply for adoption, please submit an application at socorescue.com. Questions about Apollo and/or our adoption policy should be sent to socorescue8@gmail.com; please no phone calls. If approved to adopt, a SoCo team member will contact you ASAP.** Back in 2021, a (now former) SoCo staff member found a young  male Lab mix wandering the streets. The former staff member agreed to foster this dog and help nurse him back to health as he was undernourished at the time. From his first day with the staff  this very friendly, very attentive fellow became a bright spot in the lives of everyone he met. Because of his very pleasant and uplifting personality, he was given the name of the mythical god of song, poetry and a number of other positive aspects of life: "Apollo"! Apollo has continued with his wonderful personality during his time at SoCo Rescue. We have no idea what his former life was truly like, but with his knowledge of basic commands it's obvious that someone once took time to train him, that he was once someone's companion and best friend. He has been excellent with other dogs and people of all ages and will make a great family companion.  Upon his arrival, Apollo immediately received and has been kept up-to-date on all of his annual vaccinations and de-wormings,  monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives and other needed vet care. He's also been neutered. Apollo initially tested "light" positive for heartworms. We elected to use the "Slow Kill" method of treating his heartworms, which resulted in a Negative test results on Nov. 20, 2023. Apollo has displayed some house-training ability, but his adopter should be prepared to offer additional training. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.October 28, 2024, 1:46 pm

Story
***Paulie is currently located at our rescue in Georgia and also available for adoption in the New Jersey area. An application for his adoption can be submitted at socorescue.com (no need tom register or login). Questions about Paulie and/or our adoption policy should be sent to socorescue8@gmail.com; please do not call the rescue's phone number.*** After Paulie's former owner was arrested, he was left alone hooked to a chain and living on top of a heap of trash. With the aid of the Wheeler Co. Sheriff's Dept, Scott Bennett was able to rescue Paulie from his horrible living conditions. After being released from jail, his former owner made numerous threats against Scott and SoCo Rescue, demanding the return of his dog, but Scott stood his ground and, again with the backing of the sheriff's department, Paulie remained with our rescue. Paulie was found to be heartworm positive and has since been treated for them. Paulie has been such a joy to have at our rescue. He's a very happy, well-socialized dog who loves to run and play. He's gotten along great with other dogs and loves interacting with people. He has a lot of energy and will do very well with an active family and at a home that allows his room to run and play. He's also very affectionate. Despite his harsh and cruel former life, Paulie has grown into such a wonderful dog who simply loves life! Paulie has been fully vetted, kept up to date on his monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives. While he is accustomed to staying in a crate he will need additional house training. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.March 23, 2025, 9:46 am

Story
***Bumper is currently located at our rescue in Georgia. With an approved application, he can be transported to New Jersey and available for adoption at the Tractor Supply in Ringoes during one of our monthly adoption events. An application for his adoption should be submitted at socorescue.com (no need to register or login). Questions about Bumper and/or our adoption policy should be sent to socorescue8@gmail.com; please do not call the rescue's phone number.*** In November 2023, Scott Bennett received a call about a dog that had been struck by a car and was lying on the side of the road. Once Scott was able to reach this dog and see his condition, he really didn't hold much hope that the dog would survive. In addition to being very emaciated, and covered in blood, there was a large gash on his head which was the point of impact by the car's bumper (which is how he gt his name). Scott held little hope that this dog would survive but took him to SoCo with the intent of having him humanely euthanized. But to everyone's surprise, this dog did survive the night but obviously suffered a concussion. But to everyone's surprise, he did survive the night and with each passing day, showed a little more improvement than the day before.  It took a while for Bumper to heal from his injuries and regain his health. Even after he did, he had to undergo heartworm treatment and be neutered, which is why he has remained at our shelter for nearly two years. During all that time, Bumper has shown his appreciation by being very friendly and playful with our staff. He always has a big smile on his face and is simply a wonderful dog, one of Scott's favorites at the rescue.  Bumper has been kept up-to-date on his annual vaccinations, de-wormings and monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives. He is very strong and while we've been working on his leash training, he does still pull a bit when being walked. He will also require additional house training. He loves spending time both indoors and outside so a home that allows him space to run and play would be best. Bumper has also already been neutered as well. He is slightly overweight, but once in a home and allowed more "play time", he should drop those few extra pounds. We would not recommend a home with very young children as he may inadvertently hurt them since he is very strong, but should do well if the children are responsible in their handling of a large dog.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.August 13, 2025, 3:00 pm

Story
Tootsies is scheduled to be at our Adoption Event with an approved application.  If interested, please fillout our application at www.SoCoRescue.com   When a former SoCo staff member heard about a litter of stray pups that needed help, she offered to take the pups in and provide care for them. During their time with this woman, they were started on their required basic care of being de-wormed, receiving their vaccinations and other preventative care. Once space opened up at our rescue, all nine pups from this litter were then transferred to our facility. Financial restraints and other issues beyond our control prohibited us from getting the entire litter ready for adoption sooner, as we had hoped. But now, the first three, Tootsie, Tiffany and Travis, are now available for adoption.   Tootsie is a sweet, wonderful girl who plays very well with other dogs. Tootsie is very affectionate, playful and loves her time with people. Her only drawback: she is a bit timid when facing new task such as we're seeing with her leash training.    While she is going to make someone a great companion, she is very apprehensive and reluctant of a leash. We have been working with her and she is making positive progress, but her adopter must be understanding and patience so that she can master the training.    Tootsie has now been fully vetted, including being spayed. We've also kept her on her monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives. All this wonderful girl needs is your love!  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.October 28, 2024, 1:46 pm

Story
***Peanut is currently at a foster home in Georgia and available for adoption through SoCo Rescue. She is scheduled to be at the Tractor Supply in Ringoes, NJ for our adoption event over the July 12-13 weekend. An application for her adoption can be submitted at socorescue.com (no need to "Register" or "Login"). Questions about Peanut and/or our adoption policy should be submitted to socorescue8@gmail.com; please do not call the rescue's number.*** Peanut was among a number of dogs that a neighboring city's animal control had impounded from a home after Peanut's owner was deemed as having too many dogs. Peanut had recently had a litter of 6 pups at that time, sadly, only two of those pups survived and were adopted through SoCo Rescue. We were able to rescue Peanut and her pups just one day before they all would have been euthanized by the city's shelter. Peanut is a sweet and affectionate dog who loves being around people. She has a very calm and laid-back personality, making her a wonderful companion. At her former home and while in the foster home, Peanut was around other dogs, but seems to have decided that she prefers being the only dog at a home. She did interact very well with the cats at her foster home, showing little to no interest in them.  Peanut has been fully vetted and is currently up-to-date on all vaccinations, de-worming and monthly preventative care. While she was heartworm positive when she first arrived, Peanut did receive treatment for her heartworms and is now free and clear of them. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.July 4, 2025, 11:54 am

Story
***Davey is currently located at our rescue in Georgia. With an approved application, he can be transported to New Jersey for adoption. An application for Davey's adoption should be submitted at socorescue.com (no need to register or login). Questions about Davey and/or our adoption process should be sent to socorescue8@gmail.com; please do not call the rescue's number.*** In August 2024, Davey was found as a stray by man who was in Georgia doing some remodeling work on a house. Davey was very thin, only weighing 40 lbs at the time when he should have weighed 80 lbs. He was also infested with fleas and ticks, which had him very anemic and full of worms. Davey also barely missed being killed after someone shot at his head, but the bullet pieced his ear instead. Davey was also very high-positive with heartworms. It took  almost a full year for Davey to regain his health so he could be treated for his heartworms, which he is now free of them, but he still has the hole in his ear flap, a stark reminder of just how close he came to being killed.  Through his journey to recovery, Davey has remained a very friendly dog. He simply loves every person he's met during his time with us, and also responds very well to basic commands such as "sit" and will even offer his paw when asked to "shake". He's also crate trained and appears to also have some house training. Davey has interacted with other dogs but has also shown some aggression towards some larger dogs. We're not sure how he'll do in a home with other dogs, so it may be best to consider him as an only dog until he can be fully assessed. We do not think he'll do well around cats. But this big fellow is nothing more than mush when it comes to interacting with people and he simply wants to be your friend. While he walks well on a leash, he is very strong. We've noticed that Davey becomes excited around raised voices and would do best in a balanced home without a lot of commotion. Regardless, anyone looking for a large Bulldog, Davey is an ideal candidate as their next best friend. Davey has been kept up-to-date on his vaccinations, de-wormings and monthly preventative care since his arrival. As stated, he was treated for his heartowrms and has also been neutered. He may need a refresher course once in a new home. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.June 12, 2025, 5:40 pm
