Story
***Dolly is currently located at our Georgia facility but also available for adoption in the New Jersey and surrounding areas. Questions about Dolly and/or our adoption process should be sent to socorescue8@gmail.com. To submit an application for the adoption of Dolly, please visit our web page at socorescue.com (no need to register or login) or click on the following link:https://www.socorescue.com/forms/form?formid=1628 Dolly, her mom and two brothers were all found as strays. The family that found them had other dogs and decided to keep one of Dolly's brothers, but gladly surrendered the others to our rescue. Dolly was about 3 months old at the time, flea infested and a bit underweight. We took the trio of dogs into our care and initially placed them into a foster home, but have since brought him to our rescue. We provided them all with the love and care that each needed and saw a rapid improvement to their health.  Dolly was the larger of the three pups and no doubt the alpha. She is very friendly and playful but does tend to boss her brother, Danny, around. She should be fine around other dogs and she is already very playful and affectionate around people. She seems to be highly intelligent and should pick up rather quickly on any training that her adopter gives to her. She'll make a great family companion, even with children who know how to properly treat a dog.  Dolly has been spayed, received an update on her annual vaccinations; de-wormed and treated against parasites and started on her monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives. She will need all of her basic training. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.October 28, 2024, 1:46 pm

Story
***Apollo is currently at our facility in Georgia but also available for adoption in the New Jersey and surrounding areas. To apply for adoption, please submit an application at socorescue.com. Questions about Apollo and/or our adoption policy should be sent to socorescue8@gmail.com; please no phone calls. If approved to adopt, a SoCo team member will contact you ASAP.** Back in 2021, a (now former) SoCo staff member found a young  male Lab mix wandering the streets. The former staff member agreed to foster this dog and help nurse him back to health as he was undernourished at the time. From his first day with the staff  this very friendly, very attentive fellow became a bright spot in the lives of everyone he met. Because of his very pleasant and uplifting personality, he was given the name of the mythical god of song, poetry and a number of other positive aspects of life: "Apollo"! Apollo has continued with his wonderful personality during his time at SoCo Rescue. We have no idea what his former life was truly like, but with his knowledge of basic commands it's obvious that someone once took time to train him, that he was once someone's companion and best friend. He has been excellent with other dogs and people of all ages and will make a great family companion.  Upon his arrival, Apollo immediately received and has been kept up-to-date on all of his annual vaccinations and de-wormings,  monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives and other needed vet care. He's also been neutered. Apollo initially tested "light" positive for heartworms. We elected to use the "Slow Kill" method of treating his heartworms, which resulted in a Negative test results on Nov. 20, 2023. Apollo has displayed some house-training ability, but his adopter should be prepared to offer additional training. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.October 28, 2024, 1:46 pm

Story
***Paulie is currently located at our rescue in Georgia and also available for adoption in the New Jersey area. An application for his adoption can be submitted at socorescue.com (no need tom register or login). Questions about Paulie and/or our adoption policy should be sent to socorescue8@gmail.com; please do not call the rescue's phone number.*** After Paulie's former owner was arrested, he was left alone hooked to a chain and living on top of a heap of trash. With the aid of the Wheeler Co. Sheriff's Dept, Scott Bennett was able to rescue Paulie from his horrible living conditions. After being released from jail, his former owner made numerous threats against Scott and SoCo Rescue, demanding the return of his dog, but Scott stood his ground and, again with the backing of the sheriff's department, Paulie remained with our rescue. Paulie was found to be heartworm positive and has since been treated for them. Paulie has been such a joy to have at our rescue. He's a very happy, well-socialized dog who loves to run and play. He's gotten along great with other dogs and loves interacting with people. He has a lot of energy and will do very well with an active family and at a home that allows his room to run and play. He's also very affectionate. Despite his harsh and cruel former life, Paulie has grown into such a wonderful dog who simply loves life! Paulie has been fully vetted, kept up to date on his monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives. While he is accustomed to staying in a crate he will need additional house training. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.March 23, 2025, 9:46 am

Story
***Bumper is currently located at our rescue in Georgia. With an approved application, he can be transported to New Jersey and available for adoption at the Tractor Supply in Ringoes during one of our monthly adoption events. An application for his adoption should be submitted at socorescue.com (no need to register or login). Questions about Bumper and/or our adoption policy should be sent to socorescue8@gmail.com; please do not call the rescue's phone number.*** In November 2023, Scott Bennett received a call about a dog that had been struck by a car and was lying on the side of the road. Once Scott was able to reach this dog and see his condition, he really didn't hold much hope that the dog would survive. In addition to being very emaciated, and covered in blood, there was a large gash on his head which was the point of impact by the car's bumper (which is how he gt his name). Scott held little hope that this dog would survive but took him to SoCo with the intent of having him humanely euthanized. But to everyone's surprise, this dog did survive the night but obviously suffered a concussion. But to everyone's surprise, he did survive the night and with each passing day, showed a little more improvement than the day before.  It took a while for Bumper to heal from his injuries and regain his health. Even after he did, he had to undergo heartworm treatment and be neutered, which is why he has remained at our shelter for nearly two years. During all that time, Bumper has shown his appreciation by being very friendly and playful with our staff. He always has a big smile on his face and is simply a wonderful dog, one of Scott's favorites at the rescue.  Bumper has been kept up-to-date on his annual vaccinations, de-wormings and monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives. He is very strong and while we've been working on his leash training, he does still pull a bit when being walked. He will also require additional house training. He loves spending time both indoors and outside so a home that allows him space to run and play would be best. Bumper has also already been neutered as well. He is slightly overweight, but once in a home and allowed more "play time", he should drop those few extra pounds. We would not recommend a home with very young children as he may inadvertently hurt them since he is very strong, but should do well if the children are responsible in their handling of a large dog.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.August 13, 2025, 3:00 pm

Story
***Julius is with a loving foster family in Flemington, NJ. An application for his adoption can be submitted at socorescue.com (no need to register or login). Questions about Julius and/or our adoption policy should be sent to socorescue8@gmail.com; please do not call the rescue.*** His foster mom writes… Julius is great with kids and other dogs. He is definitely a follower and would prefer to be in a house with another dog to play with and follow their lead. He is very playful with other dogs, but will mimic what the other dog does and if that means it’s time to rest, he will rest . He is crate trained. He gets nervous going on walks and is gradually getting more comfortable going further from the house and the yard he knows. He needs a home that has a lot of patience for him. He is house trained, but still has three accidents or so a week in the house. He understands sit and come. He would do best in a home with another dog & definitely prefers women, he’s a little fearful of men. But with time & patience he might come around.  —————- Julius, his six siblings and their mom were all found as strays in a neighboring city. While we couldn't immediately take them in due to space limitations, we were able to get them started on their required vaccinations, de-wormings and other care thanks to a very compassionate woman who agreed to foster them until space did become available. Their mom (picture included with this profile) is a very friendly, small bulldog, weighing only 30lbs. We have no idea who the dad was, but by looking at the pups, we'd have to say he was some type of Shepherd breed.  Julius has a very sweet, calm personality. He's not timid at all, but is more so on the submissive side. He has no fear of people, loves to be held and snuggle up onto the lap of whoever he encounters and is very playful with other pups. Still, we think he'll do best in a home without very young children as he does tend to shy away from excessive noise or commotion. He will still make a wonderful addition into just about any home, especially one with other dogs. Julius has received his first year "puppy" vaccines, been de-wormed at proper intervals and started on his monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives. He will require house and leash training. His adopter must agree to having Julius neutered once he reaches the appropriate age (typically 6 months) and supplying SoCo with verification of such.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.October 30, 2025, 9:36 pm

***   Milo is with a loving Foster in NJ. Questions about  Milo  and/or our adoption policy should be sent to socorescue8@gmail.com; please do not call the rescue's phone number. An application for his adoption should be submitted at socorescue.com (no need to register or login).***  When he was about 5 months old,  Milo  and his five brothers were found living in horrible conditions. They initially were under the care of another rescuer and we took them into our rescue once space became available.  Milo has been a very friendly and playful fellow since arriving at our rescue. He has a great personality and simply loves interacting with people. He quickly won the hearts of our staff and has been one of our favorites here at SoCo Rescue. He will make a great addition for anyone looking to add a larger-sized dog to their active lifestyle. Milo   has been kept up to date on his annual vaccinations, de-wormings and monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives as well as being neutered. He did recently test negative for heartworms. He will need additional house and leash training. While  Milo   has interacted with other dogs in the past, we'd require a "meet-and-greet" with any other dogs that he'd share the home with.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 19, 2025, 1:43 pm
