Story
This is Louie . He’s about 108 pounds, and is the definition of a couch potato. He has been okay with puppies I’ve brought into the house, but not sure he would do well with adult dogs. He also lived with a kitten once. He has never been people aggressive, but will bark and bark at anyone new that comes in our house and has to be put up due to the fact that he is very intimidating. He is on Trazadone twice a day for anxiety and tends to whine occasionally until that kicks in. I recently moved and have an open, smaller yard, and I think his anxiety would benefit from a place to run some energy off. I can’t get him walked outside on a leash as often as I’d like due to neighborhood animals unleashed . He is house trained and has never chewed anything, but is crated when I am not home (he prefers it too). I think his ideal home would have a man that can give him direction because he is a man’s best friend and listens to them better than women typically. All around, truly a good boy.

Story
I came to the shelter as a stray and I was not reclaimed. I am a friendly guy who is now looking for his forever home! I am around 1.5 years old and I weigh 55 pounds. Unfortunately, I am heartworm positive and lyme positive. I will need to be treated for both of those so I can be as good as new again. Stay tuned for updates! UPDATE 5/24/2023: I am neutered and up-to-date on my shots!UPDATE: I have completed my heartworm treatment and lyme treatment! I am doing great and ready for adoption! Don’t tell anybody but Cola is a shelter favorite. Maybe we aren’t supposed to have favorites, but we can’t help it when a super sweet one, like this one, comes along. Cola came in as a stray but his stray hold came and went with no one showing up to claim him, so he is now available for adoption. Let’s get the facts out of the way so we can talk about the real Cola. He is a black terrier/lab mix that has been aged at one and a half years. With his curly tail and scrunchy nose, he may have some puggle in there somewhere. He weighs 55 pounds. He has been fully vaccinated and is now neutered. The sad news is that he tested positive for both Lyme disease and heartworms. The good news is that both are treatable and the beginning of both treatments is the same medicine, so he is on his way to being treated for both. As always, if you would choose to adopt a heartworm positive dog, the shelter would be there for you through treatment and cover the costs associated with it. Cola is a favorite for a reason. He is just an easy dog. He loves all people and is good with other dogs. He ignores cats. He does have a very high vertical, kangaroo like jump when you approach his kennel because he gets so excited to see you coming for him. He is such a sweetheart. He is calm and is not a barker or a gate crasher. He waits patiently for his food and best of all, he is a fabulous leash walker. One day when we were walking, he noticed a bird sitting on a wire above our lane. He watched the bird and as we walked past, he kept turning around to see if it was still there and even looked up at that same place on the way back. So philosophical! He was so gentle for his vetting and is a wonderful bath taker. He has a lip that reminds us of Elvis. It turns up and just looks so cute! If Cola sounds like a good fit for you, the first step is an approved adoption screening form. To obtain one, email us at wabashcountybuddies@outlook.com and fill one out on line. You can call us at (618) 262-7109 and leave a message that you would like to meet Cola and a volunteer will get right back with you to arrange a meet and greet and you can fill one out in person. Cola is going to need to be helped through his heartworm treatment by his adopter but the shelter will provide all the support you need through the treatment to help him live a long healthy life. If you are up for helping a sweet guy that is down on his luck, Cola is your man. You won’t be sorry about being his hero! He will pay you back a million times over.September 19, 2023, 8:44 am
