Story
I came to the shelter as a stray and I was not reclaimed. I am a friendly guy who is now looking for his forever home! I am around 1.5 years old and I weigh 55 pounds. Unfortunately, I am heartworm positive and lyme positive. I will need to be treated for both of those so I can be as good as new again. Stay tuned for updates! UPDATE 5/24/2023: I am neutered and up-to-date on my shots!UPDATE: I have completed my heartworm treatment and lyme treatment! I am doing great and ready for adoption! Don’t tell anybody but Cola is a shelter favorite. Maybe we aren’t supposed to have favorites, but we can’t help it when a super sweet one, like this one, comes along. Cola came in as a stray but his stray hold came and went with no one showing up to claim him, so he is now available for adoption. Let’s get the facts out of the way so we can talk about the real Cola. He is a black terrier/lab mix that has been aged at one and a half years. With his curly tail and scrunchy nose, he may have some puggle in there somewhere. He weighs 55 pounds. He has been fully vaccinated and is now neutered. The sad news is that he tested positive for both Lyme disease and heartworms. The good news is that both are treatable and the beginning of both treatments is the same medicine, so he is on his way to being treated for both. As always, if you would choose to adopt a heartworm positive dog, the shelter would be there for you through treatment and cover the costs associated with it. Cola is a favorite for a reason. He is just an easy dog. He loves all people and is good with other dogs. He ignores cats. He does have a very high vertical, kangaroo like jump when you approach his kennel because he gets so excited to see you coming for him. He is such a sweetheart. He is calm and is not a barker or a gate crasher. He waits patiently for his food and best of all, he is a fabulous leash walker. One day when we were walking, he noticed a bird sitting on a wire above our lane. He watched the bird and as we walked past, he kept turning around to see if it was still there and even looked up at that same place on the way back. So philosophical! He was so gentle for his vetting and is a wonderful bath taker. He has a lip that reminds us of Elvis. It turns up and just looks so cute! If Cola sounds like a good fit for you, the first step is an approved adoption screening form. To obtain one, email us at wabashcountybuddies@outlook.com and fill one out on line. You can call us at (618) 262-7109 and leave a message that you would like to meet Cola and a volunteer will get right back with you to arrange a meet and greet and you can fill one out in person. Cola is going to need to be helped through his heartworm treatment by his adopter but the shelter will provide all the support you need through the treatment to help him live a long healthy life. If you are up for helping a sweet guy that is down on his luck, Cola is your man. You won’t be sorry about being his hero! He will pay you back a million times over.September 19, 2023, 8:44 am

Story
Hi there, I'm Iris, a 2-year-old husky mix, and I'm ready for some new adventures! I ended up at this shelter because I had a knack for escaping in my previous home. I guess it's pretty typical for huskies like me when we're left outside alone. But now, I'm looking for a new family who can give me the love and guidance I need. I should mention right away that I'm not a fan of cats, so I'm looking for a cat-free home. When it comes to other dogs, I tend to assert myself when corrected, which sometimes leads to conflicts. But I've heard that I might get along better with a more submissive doggy friend. So, a patient and experienced dog owner who knows about Husky behavior would be perfect for me. I need a securely fenced yard or an owner who's willing to take me on leash walks and adventures to keep my escape artist tendencies in check. Daily exercise is a must for me to stay happy and healthy. I'm all up-to-date on vaccinations, spayed, and microchipped. The vet says I'm in great shape! f you're an active and experienced dog owner who can provide me with love, structure, and exciting adventures, we might just be a perfect match. Come meet me at the shelter, and let's see if we're meant to be family!

Story
Hi there! My name is Daisy, and I'm a German Shepherd Mix looking for my forever home. I'm proud to say that I'm an excellent walker on a leash. I enjoy our walks together and promise to make them enjoyable for both of us. I absolutely love being petted by everyone I meet. My heart swells with joy when you show me affection, and I'll return the love tenfold. If you have cats at home, that's no problem for me. I've lived with them before and got along just fine. I do best in a home with adults only. I appreciate the calm and quiet environment they provide. I'm a bit cautious around high-energy dogs. I've had a few issues when they approached me. So, I might be more comfortable in a space where I can have calm interactions. I've been described as "perfect" and "super sweet" with humans, and I wear those titles proudly. I'm here to be your loyal and loving companion. I did have a moment when I growled and felt uncomfortable around a couple of high-energy dogs. I even tried to chase a squirrel once - it just seemed too tempting! As for jogging, I felt a bit fearful when they tried that with me, so I prefer to stick with walking. But don't worry, my low energy makes me super easy to walk, and I promise to be your best friend on those leisurely strolls. So, if you're an adult looking for a sweet and loving companion who's great on a leash, that's me! I'm Daisy, and I'm eagerly waiting for a loving home where I can share all my affection and companionship.
