Meri

Rat Terrier

Female, Adult
Horn Lake, MS
Size
(when grown) Med. 26-60 lbs (12-27 kg)
Details
Not good with kids, Not good with dogs, Not good with cats, Needs special attention, House-trained, Spayed or Neutered, Shots are up-to-date,
Story
When Jeri and Meri were found, they were essentially feral. They were hiding under a shipping container they had adopted as their home. It is unknown how long they were living there, as the property was only visited by the owners sporadically. When the landowners found them, it took quite a while to coax them out into the open where they were eventually trapped. Both were very skinny, dehydrated and terrified of people. And both are still very wary and untrusting of new people and new situations.  On occasion, both dogs still nip their rescuers when they are stressed or excited.  This is not to say that they would not warm up to other people.  But it will take a "dog-savvy" person with great patience, love and a very calm, low activity home. Once the level of trust is earned, either Jeri or Meri would be a sweet companion and friend.  Meri and Jeri will NOT be good with seniors, children or cats because of their unpredictability and their terrier tendencies. They should probably be adopted separately in order to fully bond with the new owner(s). Jeri is neutered, vaccinated and on Heartworm preventative. Meri is spayed, vaccinated, and on Heartworm preventative. You can speak to his foster parents to learn more by calling 662-342-9448 or emailing: info@desotoanimalrescue.orgApril 7, 2024, 12:06 am

Brutus

German Shepherd Dog Mastiff

Male, 5 yrs 10 mos
Horn Lake, MS
Size
(when grown) Large 61-100 lbs (28-45 kg)
Details
Good with dogs, Not good with cats, Needs special attention, Needs experienced adopter,
Story
Brutus is a absolute beauty. He is dog selective and goes in a play group with other dogs every day. He would be best suited for a female adopter. There might be something in his past that makes him not immediately trust men BUT with time and very slow male introductions, he can learn to trust...as he has with the male staff at the shelter. To the staff, he is a big goofball and soaks up all attention given to him. He just needs his right person. Special Needs-Experienced Female adopter that is sensitive to his non-trust issues with males and will take introductions to new people very slowly. This can help Brutus to be more confident and help his adoption to be successful. Approx. 3 years old

Story
Black is a handsome fella. Don't know why he gets overlooked. He could not be a better dog. He COULD use a big dose of confidence. He is people friendly but takes a little time to warm up and then he is mush in your hands. He is dog friendly and goes in a play group with other dogs during the day. Black would benefit greatly from an adopter who would make him feel safe, loved, and who would work on building him up to feel like the good boy that WE KNOW HE IS. UPDATE-Black has recently gone on a weekend field trip to see how he behaves in a home. The weekend fosters said he was absolutely wonderful, a little shy at first but so loving and a great house guest. He even let them give him a bath. Black is waiting for his much deserved forever home.

Good with dogs,
Story
Sissy likes dogs and people who spend time getting to know her. She is a wonderful girl but will make you work just a little to earn her trust. She is a big fan of treats and has learned to walk on a leash. Please set up a long appointment to get to know this sweet girl. The perfect adopter would have a quiet home, no kids, and perhaps another dog for her to pal around with. Sissy certainly deserves the good life and would make the truest companion.
