Story
10/22/25 Tuxley has been in rescue for a month now and he has come a long way! Right after he arrived, Tuxley spent the weekend at the beach with a temporary foster. He then visited our rescue vet and was neutered and brought up to date. Tuxley needed a dental and it turned out to be a very complicated procedure because a cyst had been left untreated and multiple teeth had to be removed. It is sad to think of how long this boy must have been in considerable pain. Now that he has healed, you can really tell how much better Tuxley feels. His foster mom reports that Tuxley loves being outside and going for walks. He has gone to the dog park and Tuxley enjoys playing with a variety of dogs. People always comment on how well behaved he is out in public. Tuxley is truly a sweetheart and a moderately active gentleman. He will be visiting our vet again soon to finish up his dental procedure, and then Tuxley will be ready for his forever home. 9/22/25 Meet Tuxley! He arrived at the shelter in Baltimore as a stray. The shelter reported that he was a distinguished gentleman there. He did great with his dog friends in the play yard. Tuxley knows “sit” and walks wonderful on leash. He is a very sweet boy and if you sit down next to him, he immediately moves in close for some hugs and pets. The shelter indicated that Tuxley was getting very stressed in the kennel. Thanks to the quick actions of several volunteers, Tuxley was able to leave the shelter and get transported to his new foster home in Virginia. His foster mom reports that he has been a great boy! Tuxley walks well on leash and is still very active. He loves toys and has been very well mannered in the home. Tuxley will be scheduled soon for his neuter and a dental, and then he will be ready for his forever home.

Story
10/21/25 Amelia is making great progress in her foster home. She is now walking well on leash. Amelia enjoys being with her foster brother, a male boxer, and she has also made quick friends with a neighborhood puppy that she often played with. Amelia loves toys – stuffed toys, squeaky toys, and hard chew toys are all favorites! She takes treats gently and always finishes her meals. Amelia sleeps in her crate and goes in on her own at bedtime when treats are involved. She loves to snuggle with her foster dad during movie time. Amelia has the cutest little bark and one of her favorite activities is laying in the sun in her fenced backyard. She is also a fan of hanging out on the window seat in the front of the house so she can watch dogs and people go by. This adorable girl is going to be a wonderful addition to a lucky family. 9/3/25 Amelia arrived as a stray to an overcrowded shelter in West Virginia. This beautiful boxer mix girl is estimated to be around 2 years of age. She was very timid at the shelter, but also very sweet with everyone she met. The shelter reported that she did well with other dogs. Because an AABR volunteer offered to foster this girl, we were able to pull her from the shelter and open up a kennel there for another dog. Amelia arrived at her foster home in Virgina at the end of August. She is being fostered with a male boxer and she really enjoys being around him. We feel a male dog in her new home will help to build her confidence. Amelia is housebroken and is getting more comfortable in the house with each day, although she is still frightened by sudden, loud noises and sudden movements. Amelia has made so much progress just in two weeks and is turning into quite the cuddler!

Story
10/7/25 Magic continues to amaze his foster mom with his progress and sweet personality. Whether it’s his growing self-control or his unmatched cuddling skills, this lovable boxer proves every day that he’s ready for his forever home. Over the last few months, his foster home has been bustling with house projects, bringing a steady stream of new people through the door. Surprisingly, this has helped Magic build even more self-control. When he sees workers pulling into the driveway, his wiggle-butt begins but so does the barking; letting everyone know that someone is approaching. However, with just a simple point to the crate, he goes in willingly, settles down, and quietly watches as they enter and begin their work. After patiently observing for a while, he’ll either take a nap or, if the visitor is a fan (and many are!), he gets his turn to come out and say hello. Magic is in his happy place when he makes a new friend and that friend takes him outside to throw balls so he can show off his impressive catching skills, and then stays long enough to come inside and cuddle on the couch with him. Watching him leap and play outside is always entertaining, but his snuggles have a way of melting hearts. The key to Magic’s success is patience. His future family will need to give him time and space to adjust to new people and settings. Once he’s comfortable, he’s ready to be the life of the party. And of course, regular exercise is essential but that’s no surprise for a young, athletic guy like him. If you’re looking for a spirited, snuggly, ball-loving companion who’s learning to balance his energy with patience, Magic might be the perfect match for you.
