Story
Hi, my name is Bean! I'm a transfer from a local impound where I was found as a stray. From the foster: Bean is a sweet, cuddly, gently playful kitten. From the day she entered our home, she was unafraid, affectionate, and curious. She likes to massage her humans with her paws and snuggle in their laps. When exploring, she is particularly intrigued by power cords, violin bows, and ping pong balls. Bean is positive for feline leukemia so he would need to be an only kitty or live with other felv+ felines. Learn more about Feline Leukemia here! https://veterinarypartner.vin.com/default.aspx?pid=19239&id=4951934 Medical: Hello! I arrived at Secondhand Hounds with a corneal ulcer in my left eye. Medical treatment was attempted by the SHH Vet Team but my eye was not responding to treatment so I had a procedure to remove the eye (enucleation).

Story
Hi, my name is Pumpkin! I'm an owner surrender from Minnesota! From the foster: Pumpkin is a joy to have in the house. She has been staying with me since early July - she came to SHH after her owner became too old to care for her, and I can tell that she was loved in her past life! Pumpkin chirps when happy or curious, and she does the sweetest hops when she gets excited. She gives little kisses and loves to rub up against me (demanding cheek scratches while she is at it). Once she receives her fill of pets, she happily curls up nearby for a nap. Pumpkin eats and uses her litter box like an absolute champ. She has a healthy appetite and gets very happy when she hears her can of food being opened. She knows that her scratching pad is for her nails and I haven't seen (or found evidence of) her scratching any furniture. She has ambitions to jump up to higher spots, but would love some steps or assistance to help her achieve more impressive elevations. She's agile for her age, but I think she would appreciate carpeted flooring or rugs as she slips a bit on the wood floor here. Pumpkin enjoys being brushed, particularly below/behind her ears. She insists on inspecting/mouthing the brush after every stroke - the bristles must feel good on her gums. She grooms herself well, but like all cats she misses some spots. A quick brush through does the trick in areas of her fur that get a bit tangled. Pumpkin is not a fan of dogs or cats (untested with kids), and becomes agitated when other animals crowd her space. My resident cat wanted to be her friend, but Pumpkin prefers the solo-animal life. I have kept the two cats separated since, and Pumpkin has had no additional issues! Because of this, I think Pumpkin would thrive as the only animal in an adult-only home with people to love on her and tell her how beautiful she is :) Pumpkin is a sweet, spunky girl looking for a doting home for her senior years.

Story
Hi, my name is Nestor! I'm a transfer from a rescue partner in Missouri! From the foster: Nestor is the sweetest. She is a little nervous around humans but you can tell she is wanting to come out of her shell and get lots of pets. If you are sitting down she will come up to you and lay buy you for hours on end, but if you stand up, and walk towards her she gets nervous. She is best approached down on her level or letting you come to her. Once she is comfortable though she will be rubbing her head up against you asking for scratches under her chin constantly. She is also teeny tiny, a fun sized kitty cat, with the cutest little honk meow. She hardly ever meows but will every so often in greeting when I get home. She is great with a scratching post and has not scratched my furniture at all. She also hasn't jumped up on the counter at all since I've had her. She uses her litter box without issue as well. Medical information: Hello! Throughout my veterinary care at Secondhand Hounds, it was discovered that I am in early stage 1 chronic kidney disease (CKD). This means that there is some damage to my kidneys causing dysfunction, but it is mild so far. Most cats with stage 1 CKD are asymptomatic, and no specific therapy is needed at this time. The SHH Vet Team recommends avoiding any potentially kidney-toxic drugs, and make sure I have free access to fresh water at all times. They also recommend that my bloodwork and urinalysis should be monitored every 6-12 months with a primary veterinarian. If it did progress, prescription kidney diets or other treatments may be recommended. Any future medical costs will be at my adopter's expense!

He also lives with 3 dogs of all sizes and doesn’t mind them. Bruno has lived inside his whole life and is just waiting for his forever home. Is that you?IMPORTANT: Please read all below, especially if you live outside of Texas, which is where our rescue is located.Apply to adopt on our website: https://www.charmingpetrescue.org/adoptAll of our animals are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up to date on shots.ALL of our animals are located in Boerne, TX, but transport after adoption is available to other states for a $300 fee for dogs or an additional fee varying by location for cats. If you are seeing our pets posted in your state, that's because you live near a transport stop, they are not currently at that location. Petfinder lists our pets as ''Out of Town'' pets at other locations, and Adopt-a-Pet lists our location as a Transport stop. Those are currently the only options they offer to make this clear, so we put this description we've put at the bottom to explain it. You can read more about transport here: www.charmingpetrescue.org/transportWe understand transport is not an option for everyone, but we offer it at the cost we pay the transport company for those who wish to adopt from us.September 24, 2023, 9:25 pm
