Story
PEAS: POSITIVE ATTRIBUTES:She is a super-sweet lady and loves people! She is tolerant and cuddly.POTENTIAL CHALLENGE:Peas may need a slow transition to her new home. She responds well to head pets and a gentle approach, but could try to hide or escape confinement until she feels safe. To help her succeed, she should start off in a single room and only given more space when she is confidently moving around the environment and interacting with adopters. COMPATIBIITY:DOGS: Probably notCATS: Case-by-case: she has a fearful history, but she may be okay with another old, quiet cat.KIDS: Yes, with cat-savvy respectful kids If you think Peas could be a good match for your home and would like to learn more, stop by our Nevins Farm Adoption Center in Methuen. Story
Kali: POSITIVE ATTRIBUTES:Kali is a sweet, shy lady with beautiful eyes! She has good history living with other cats, and has good litter box manners. POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:Kali has had a recent dental cleaning, has hyperthyroidism, a skin mass, and dental disease. She is also overweight, and her adopter should work with a veterinarian to plan a healthy weight- loss regime for her. Kali will need time to adjust to her new environment while she settles in and becomes comfortable. Starting her in a small space at first is ideal along with hidey areas if she chooses to seek a quiet space. COMPATIBILITY:Dogs: Possibly. She has no previous history of living with a dog, and she will need complete separation to start, with a very slow introduction. Cats: Possibly. She should be introduced very slowly to any existing cats.Kids: Possibly. She has no history of living with children, and we recommend mature children, able to use petting consent tests.

Story
Meet Arya! She has been waiting patiently at the shelter for herperfect adopter to come along. Arya has been overlooked due to her age - while kittens and young adultscats are often adopted quickly, many of our senior cats wait longer to findtheir perfect match. We think Arya deserves the best retirement home, andadopting a senior can be extremely rewarding. They are extra grateful andso are we!Arya is a spirit cat, and if you adopt her, you probably wouldnt evennotice she is in your house if it werent for the mysterious overnightdisappearance of cat food.We often cant predict how a spirit cat will be after they settle in some become comfortable around their family and choose to spend time withthem by sharing the same space or allowing some petting, while otherscontinue to prefer to hide when theres any commotion. Spirit catsgenerally prefer to spend their time around other cats and make anexcellent kitty friend to a cat already in the home. Our staff can helpprepare adopters to welcome a spirit cat into a quiet home, but patienceand understanding will go a long way with Arya.

Story
Milo:Milo is a sweet, affectionate friend that will make a lovely companion for right adopter. He will need someone patient, understanding of his history, committed to him being the only pet in the home, and able to follow a strict plan for a slow introduction to the house to help him be as successful as possible. His Ideal adopters will express an understanding that patience is the name of the game here, and that Milo will do best going as slow as possible.Milo has a grade 4/6 heart murmur. A heart murmur is an abnormal sound to the heart which can either indicate underlying heart disease or can be benign. An echocardiogram (ultrasound of the heart) is the only way to determine the significance of a heart murmur. Some heart conditions may require monitoring and medications, while others may not require treatment. Some heart conditions will worsen over time and some will not. It is recommended that the adopter see their primary care veterinarian to discuss further testing for the heart murmur.Milo has evidence of moderate dental disease and may benefit from dental cleaning, which may or may not include tooth extractions of the more severely affected teeth. Sedated oral exam or dental radiographs are needed to determine if extractions are indicated at this time. Follow up with a primary care veterinarian is recommended for ongoing dental health recommendations.Milo had a mildly elevated blood glucose on his lab work in shelter. Elevated blood glucose can occur in cats due to stress: however we also worry about diabetes, especially in overweight cats. Based on testing, our vets do not think Milo is diabetic, rather that he is stressed in the shelter environment. However, overweight cats are at risk of developing diabetes over time. Milo would do best in a low-stress home and with a family committed to helping him on his weight-loss journey! it is recommended that his adopter establishes a relationship with a primary care veterinarian to create a weight loss plan.Milo will need a slow introduction into his new home. He will need to start out ideally in a small, single room. This can be a small bedroom or larger bathroom or walk-in closet, but would ideally be a space where he can comfortably decompress after his transition out of the original home and shelter stay. Adopters should be comfortable with confining Milo in his space for as long as it takes for him to be displaying calm confident, affiliative body language an
