Story
To adopt this cat from Black Cat Rescue, please fill out a profile https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston Neeko is a 3 year old female cat with a lot of personality. Here’s what her foster volunteers say about her: How would you describe the cat's general personality? Neeko has so much personality! She’s bold and a bit feisty and affectionate in her own special way. She loves to be involved and will often sit near you to watch whatever you’re doing, and she’s always rubbing on our legs (she’ll sometimes even stand on her back paws while doing so!).   Does the cat enjoy being pet? It takes her a bit to warm up, but she’ll eventually love head and chin scratches!   If yes, on what parts of her body does the cat like to be pet? Her head, chin, and ears.   Are there any parts of her body that the cat does NOT like being touched? She doesn't particularly like being touched anywhere besides her head area.   Does the cat come on your lap? No, but she may sit near us on the couch.   Does the cat like to be held? No, but she will tolerate it for a brief period, especially if you're wearing something soft!   Does the cat sleep in your bed? Yes, she loves curling up at the food of the bed on a soft blanket.   Does the cat seek your attention? Yes, she's always rubbing on our legs and rolling on the floor asking to play!   Does the cat like to play? Yes!    What are the cat's favority games and toys? She loves kicker toys with catnip and wand toys with a fuzzy target.   How vocal is the cat? What kind of sounds does the cat make? She's very quiet. She sometimes makes a tiny, scratchy meow that's so adorable, but that's very rare.   Does the cat scratch a scratcher? If no, please explain. She sometimes scratches on her cat tower (vertical scratcher).   Does the cat always use the litter box? If no, please explain.  Yes, and she is very neat about it! She doesn't spray litter everywhere as she cleans up.   What food and frequency is the cat currently eating? We give her about a quarter can of 5.5oz wet food twice per day with her meds mixed in, plus dry food always available.   Is the cat picky about food? Not really, but she definitely prefers pate.   What is the cat's favorite treat? She loves Temptations soft & crunchy catnip treats. One of her favorite games is when we throw a treat down the hallway and she runs to get it. Then, she’ll come running back like she’s playing fetch! It’s so cute!   Does the cat ever swat (claws in) at you? If so, under what circumstances? Yes, but she has been doing it less and less as time goes on! She gets in agitated/playful moods but is easily distracted with a toy (keep at least one toy in each room!).   Has the cat ever scratched (claws out) you? Yes, but very rarely.   Does the cat ever nip (teeth without breaking skin) you? Only a few times when we first got her. She always warned first by opening her mouth.   Has the cat ever bitten you (breaking skin)? No, although she has bitten in previous homes.   To the best of your knowledge, how does the cat react to new people? Social? Fearful? She’s very social! She immediately goes up to anyone new and rubs on their legs. She loves to get all the new smells too.   If you have observed the cat with other animals, please describe how they get on? We have never seen her around other animals.   Does that cat have any cute/quirky traits that aren’t covered by the previous questions? She has the most adorable little fangs that stick out even when her mouth is closed! And she has the cutest face you could never say no to. She also loves to sleep on cardboard, even if it doesn’t seem too comfortable... (she’s taken to laying on top of a partially open box). She loves it almost as much as she loves sleeping on soft things!   In your opinion, what is the best thing about the cat? Why should an adopter choose THIS cat to adopt? If you’re looking for a little companion who wants to be near you (but is a bit hesitant about physical affection), she’s the perfect choice! She’s always curious about what you’re up to and loves to play. She’s unique and has a big personality, which we love about her!   What are the cat's challenges and how have you found to best manage them? She has a lot of energy, which sometimes manifests in swatting (trying to “play” with you), so redirecting with a toy is very effective. We think all Neeko really needs is time and patience. She has made so much progress after just a few months of living with us. She’s a big sweetheart who just has a different way of showing it than most cats!     To learn more about adopting this cat in Massachusetts, please visit www.blackcatrescue.com or fill out an Adoption Profile at https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston.  January 23, 2026, 9:14 pm

Story
To adopt this cat from Black Cat Rescue, please fill out a profile https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston Fallow is a 2 year old neutered male cat. Here’s what his foster volunteer says about him:   How would you describe the cat's general personality? Fallow is a very well tempered cat who loves enrichment through toys, food puzzles, and exploring my apartment, especially when I am home from work in the evenings! He sleeps and keeps himself content through out the day and would benefit from having an apartment or home to explore on his own terms! Does the cat enjoy being pet? Yes! If yes, on what parts of its body does the cat like to be pet? Pretty much, everywhere! He doesn’t offer up his stomach often, but has also never pawed or nibbled when touching it. Are there any parts of its body that the cat does NOT like being touched? Nope! Does the cat come on your lap? Yes, I am working on teaching him that pats on something mean come here and he’s starting to get it! Does the cat like to be held? Yes, from people he is comfy with, and only really when being held tight to the chest. Doesn’t like to wiggle in the air much. Does the cat sleep in your bed? No, he was a bit weirded out by beds at first but is starting to go on them when I am not looking. Does the cat seek your attention? Yes :) Usually for food if hungry or play if he is bored. Does the cat like to play? What are the cat's favorite games and toys? He does! He likes scratchers a lot, he loves to play with a wand toy and hunt and jump around, he likes to chase, but not really fetch. How vocal is the cat? He is vocal if he is hungry, wants to get in or out of a room, not often but occasionally will meow if he is bored and wants to play (or maybe not - but if I had just fed him and he wasn’t at the door - playing with the wand toy distracted him) What kinds of sounds does the cat make? Meows but kinda unique Does the cat scratch a scratcher? Yes Does the cat always use the litter box? Yes What food and frequency is the cat currently eating? Wet food ~3oz at Morning and Night (TikiCat/Sensitive Digestion) and Purina Pro Plan dry food throughout the day. Is the cat picky about food? No What is the cat's favorite treat? He likes Churu/any tube treats Does the cat ever swat (claws in) at you? If so, under what circumstances? No Has the cat ever scratched (claws out) you? No Does the cat ever nip (teeth without breaking skin) you? No Has the cat ever bitten you (breaking skin)? No To the best of your knowledge, how does the cat react to new people? Social? Fearful? He is curious and seeks some attention but is skittish at quick movements, so does best when it’s a calm environment for introducing folks. If you have observed the cat with other animals, please describe how they get on? I have not. His rescuer tried introducing him to her cats and that went well, so we think he might be OK with other cats given a slow introduction. Does that cat have any cute/quirky traits that aren’t covered by the previous questions? He’s got a funky meow. He really is into physical contact when it’s being held close to your chest while standing, sitting, or laying down. He moves around his toys and other items (bed, bowl, etc) most nights so every time I wake up they are *slightly* shifted in the room and it’s very funny to see the rearranging he did while I was asleep. In your opinion, what is the best thing about the cat? Why should an adopter choose THIS cat to adopt? He’s a just a great well-rounded cat! He loves to cuddle for a bit, play for a bit, and have independent time! He has never been aggressive in any way, is fine being picked up, eats well, drinks his water, and hasn’t made any big messes! I think he would do great in many kinds of homes. What are the cat's challenges and how have you found to best manage them He is a hungry boy and has relaxed a lot with a mostly regular feeding schedule and puzzle free feeding dry food all day. He likes to explore a lot so he would do best in an environments where he can explore. My roommates open their doors to let him in and sometimes he just sits in the doorway to be included in the fun. Story
To adopt this cat from Black Cat Rescue, please fill out a profile https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston Cindy Lou is a gentle, affectionate senior cat looking for her final home. After thirteen years in a loving home, her owner had to go into assisted living and couldn’t keep Cindy Lou any longer. Lou Lou, as she’s affectionately known, quickly settled into her foster home and carved a place in her foster volunteer’s heart. Then, she started feeling unwell. A trip to the vet later and we learned that Cindy Lou has cancer in her abdomen. After some work with the vet, we’ve found a combination of food and low-cost medication that keeps her comfortable. Possibly related to her illness, she has on rare occasions defecated just outside the litter box, though she consistently urinates inside it. Her current foster volunteer says taking care of her is incredibly easy and “I feel so lucky to take care of her.” Now Lou Lou is ready for her final home, for however long that may be while she battles cancer. If you want a best friend in cat form, Cindy Lou is waiting! She loves helping out with chores, making sure you brush your teeth, and hanging out. And she doesn’t slack on her grooming either; if you bring out the brush she runs over! When friends come over she’ll say hi and may even pick favorites. But don’t worry, her main caretaker is always Lou Lou’s favorite. In fact, she’d probably be happy if it was just you and her most of the time. When she’s not by your side, you can find her enjoying the fresh air and people watching next to an open window. At night, she loves to sleep with you and may even get underneath the covers (you can only tell by her white nose poking out)! Do you love cuddly cats, want to be greeted at the door, and have lots of fluffy pillows? If the answer is yes then Cindy Lou would love to share the rest of her life with you. He needs to find a home with another playful cat friend. Here’s what his foster volunteer says about him:   How would you describe the cat's general personality? Ethan is very cute, but on the shyer side. He’s a sweet little baby who loves to play, but he needs to learn that he can trust humans.    Does the cat enjoy being pet? Not yet,  but we're working on it!   If yes, on what parts of its body does the cat like to be pet? He’s let us pet him when he's sleepy, he sends to like his back being pet gently.    Are there any parts of its body that the cat does NOT like being touched? We kinda don't know yet!    Does the cat come on your lap? Not yet but his brother is a snuggle bug who was once just as shy, so I have a lot of hope that he will be.    Does the cat like to be held? Not yet!    Does the cat sleep in your bed? Yes, but he keeps a few feet of distance from the humans. He loooooves to snuggle my cats on the bed though.    Does the cat seek your attention? Not exactly but if I bring out catnip or a wand toy, he gets excited!   Does the cat like to play? Yes! Ethan is incredibly playful. He is spunky, sassy, and full of energy!   What are the cat's favorite games and toys? Ethan loves wand toys! He'll play with one on his own, or with us, for hours if allowed haha   How vocal is the cat? Ethan likes to yell sometimes! He'll wander around just meowing occasionally lol   What kinds of sounds does the cat make? He has a cute, sweet little baby meow!   Does the cat scratch a scratcher? Yes, he has sisal scratcher towers that he loves   Does the cat always use the litter box? Yes! Ethan is great with the litter box.   What food and frequency is the cat currently eating? Is the cat picky about food? Any kind of kitten dry food is fine for him, and he loves fancy feast kitten pate.   What is the cat's favorite treat? We're trying to figure that out! We've been offering him churu, but he's too skittish to eat right from our hands. The right person will definitely figure it out though!   Does the cat ever swat (claws in) at you? If so, under what circumstances? No never!   Has the cat ever scratched (claws out) you? Nope!    Does the cat ever nip (teeth without breaking skin) you? Honestly, surprisingly with how shy he is, no. He’s very chill and pretty calm even when he gets scared.    Has the cat ever bitten you (breaking skin)? Nope!   To the best of your knowledge, how does the cat react to new people? Social? Fearful? He’s a little fearful and will hide until he realizes the new person isn't leaving, or dangerous. Then he'll come out and do his normal kitten stuff.    If you have observed the cat with other animals, please describe how they get on? Ethan loves cats so much. He even seems very interested in making friends with my dog! He's definitely social and friendly and playful with other animals.    Does that cat have any cute/quirky traits that aren’t covered by the previous questions? He’s goofy! He's honestly really goofy. He's silly and loves to have fun.    In your opinion, what is the best thing about the cat? Why should an adopter choose THIS cat to adopt? Ethan has so much potential. He’s a beautiful, sweet little guy. He just needs the right person and I KNOW he'll come out of his little shell. If you're wanting a gorgeous funny wonderful kitty, but you're also willing to put in some work with socializing them, Ethan is perfect for you. He will be the best cat, I just know it. He just needs a little help getting there!    What are the cat's challenges and how have you found to best manage them? Ethan is somewhat shy and skittish, as mentioned. But every day he seems to become a little bit braver, a little bit more confident. He just needs the right person to show him it’s okay to be friends with humans.   To learn more about adopting this cat in Massachusetts, please visit www.blackcatrescue.com or fill out an Adoption Profile at https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston.  December 29, 2025, 5:22 pm

Story
To adopt this cat from Black Cat Rescue, please fill out a profile https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston Soda is a sweet senior lady of 15 years, who has recently been diagnosed with stage 1 kidney disease. She was rescued as a kitten and spent her whole life in a multi-cat situation with one loving owner, who recently moved into assisted living. This is what her foster volunteer says about her:   How would you describe the cat's general personality? Soda is a sweet and very opinionated little old lady! She spends most of her days curled up on cushions or in little hidey-holes around the apartment. In the evening, she alternates between sitting on my lap, snoozing on a heating pad next to me, and hunting catnip mice. She's very energetic for her age, and VERY chatty!   Does the cat enjoy being pet? Yes! If yes, on what parts of its body does the cat like to be pet? More or less all over - head, back, sides, belly Are there any parts of its body that the cat does NOT like being touched? She doesn't love having her feet touched, but tolerates it when she's sleepy Does the cat come on your lap? Yes! She really likes to sit perched with her front paws draped over my knees so she can look around the room easily. Does the cat like to be held? Not really, she tolerates it sometimes but squirms out of the way fast. Does the cat sleep in your bed? Yes! More frequently, she'll hop up onto the bed, do a lap around, take some pets, and then leave again. Sometimes she will curl up on my stomach or next to me while I'm sleeping. She spends most of the daytime asleep in the middle of my bed near or on my pillow. Does the cat seek your attention? Yes - if I enter a room she's in, she'll meow for attention and sometimes trot over to say hi. Especially in the evenings, she'll find me in the apartment and help me with whatever task I'm working on by inserting herself between my hands and my projects.   Does the cat like to play? Yes, but on her own terms. What are the cat's favorite games and toys? She doesn't much like playing with things humans toss or dangle for her, but she does hunt her toys when they're strewn around the house. She carries catnip toys around in her mouth, mrowing victoriously like the mighty hunter she is (especially late at night). When she's on the prowl, she will sprint around the house at top speed for a few minutes and then settle back down in one of her cozy spots. How vocal is the cat? Very! What kinds of sounds does the cat make? She has a lot of different sounds! There's a warbly mrrrrrrow sort of noise to say hi when you enter a room, an imperious MRAH when she wants you to make space on your lap for her, and a repeated sort of chirpy noise that she seems to like it when you mimic back at her when she's wandering around the house.   Does the cat scratch a scratcher? Yes If no, please explain. Does the cat always use the litter box? Yes, though sometimes I think small bits of poop get stuck on her floof and drop off in a nearby room. If no, please explain.   What food and frequency is the cat currently eating? She eats Royal Canin renal support type D (slices in gravy) - 1/2 a can three times a day. She also has Hill's prescription diet renal support kibble that I leave out for her to graze on, though she doesn't eat much of it. Is the cat picky about food? Yes - she will not eat other textures of Royal Canin renal support, and had strong opinions about non-prescription food brands before she was switched to the special diet. What is the cat's favorite treat? She's not very treat-motivated Does the cat ever swat (claws in) at you? If so, under what circumstances? No Has the cat ever scratched (claws out) you? No Does the cat ever nip (teeth without breaking skin) you? No Has the cat ever bitten you (breaking skin)? No   To the best of your knowledge, how does the cat react to new people? Social? Fearful? She is almost completely unbothered by strangers - she's a little jumpier when new people are around, but she's also very interested in getting pets from them if they're around when she's feeling active. If she's lying down, she enjoys getting pets from new people when approached gently, and will roll around on her back to get her belly rubbed!   If you have observed the cat with other animals, please describe how they get on? She seems nervous when she can hear the dog that lives upstairs, but I don't know how she is with dogs in general. She used to live with another cat and it sounds like that was okay.   Does that cat have any cute/quirky traits that aren’t covered by the previous questions? She likes to hide in dark enclosed spaces, but this seems to be because they're cozy rather than because she's afraid, because when you enter a room where she's hiding she'll start chirping to say hello! Also, when I was out of town for the weekend, my friend said she piled up all of her toys in the doorway to my bedroom in an attempt to summon me back. She really, REALLY likes the heating pad I set up for her on the couch next to me, and will get up and paw at me to turn it back on when it automatically shuts off.   In your opinion, what is the best thing about the cat? Why should an adopter choose THIS cat to adopt? She's the perfect mix of cuddly but not too clingy. She's chatty but not yowly. She doesn't need to be around people 100% of the time, but she's very social and likes to be able to check in on what you're doing. She will be your friend and she'll make friends with your friends!   What are the cat's challenges and how have you found to best manage them? Soda isn't very food-motivated, and I've struggled a bit to get her to eat as much as she should. She also has some (mild) kidney issues so making sure that she drinks plenty of water is also important (I use a water fountain). Also, once every couple of weeks or so she'll have a particularly chatty/rambunctious night, and this can make sleeping a little difficult. Story
To adopt this cat from Black Cat Rescue, please fill out a profile https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston Patchouli is social a 10 year old senior male cat who has diabetes. Here’s what his foster volunteer says about him: How would you describe the cat's general personality? Patchouli is a gentle, affectionate cat who loves attention, food, and pets. He loves to show you that he is happy with his vibrating tail! He has a huge sense of curiosity enjoys spending time wherever the humans are. Although he is diabetic, it doesn’t stop him from living life to the fullest. He happily chases green worm toys and catnip mouse, begs for freeze-dried fish, and greets you at the door every day when you come home.  Does the cat enjoy being pet? Yes, Patchouli LOVES being petted. He’s often the first to come over asking chirping asking for pets and attention, and if you hold out your hand, he’ll walk right up, rub his head against it for pets, and vibrate his tail. If yes, on what parts of its body does the cat like to be pet? He likes being pet around his head the most, including the top of his head, chin and cheeks. Are there any parts of its body that the cat does NOT like being touched? He doesn’t particularly like to be touched on his stomach, his paws, and his tail, which is pretty typical for a cat. Does the cat come on your lap? I’ve only seen him climb onto my lap as a way to get to other places, but I’ve tried holding him on my lap before. He’ll tolerate it for a short moment and then jump off. Does the cat like to be held? Patchouli doesn’t enjoy being held for too long. He will let me hold him for long enough for me to move him around, but he will start struggling after about 10 seconds. Does the cat sleep in your bed? Yes. Patchouli comes to sleep in my bed every single night. He likes to stay wherever his humans are. He’ll nap in the living room when I’m there, and will follow me to bed to sleep through the night. He will also sometimes allow me to touch his belly and toes during this time! Does the cat seek your attention? Yes, Patchouli often seeks out my attention. He’s such a sweet boy who loves people and affection. When I come home, he’ll wake up from his nap and greet me at the door, chirping hello and asking for attention. Throughout the day, he’ll come over and meow for treats, playtime, or pets. He is also very curious of the activities you are engaged in, and will often meow to ask to sniff various objects you are holding. You can tell what his mood is quite easily, as his tail gives away everything. Does the cat like to play?  What are the cat's favorite games and toys? Patchouli is a happy and active cat, and loves playtime. He enjoys chasing catnip mouse toys, kicking his catnip-scented stuffed banana, and hunting the little green worms on a wand toy. When he wants to play, he’ll come over and meow for attention, then walk to his toys and start dragging the wand around to let you know it’s playtime. How vocal is the cat? Patchouli is a pretty vocal cat, and he uses vocalization to express a lot of his mood and needs. What kinds of sounds does the cat make? He mostly makes cute chirps when he is greeting me, and meows when he is anticipating food. I have never heard of any aggressive sounds from him. Does the cat scratch a scratcher? Yes, Patchouli loves to scratch the scratcher that is built into the cat tower that I have. He also sometimes scratches fabric furniture. Does the cat always use the litter box? Yes. Patchouli always uses the litter box. The only time he made a mistake on the floor was on his first day adjusting at my home. After learning where his litter box is, he has never made a mistake since. What food and frequency is the cat currently eating? Patchouli currently eats 1.5 cans of 3-oz diabetic wet food (Royal Canin Glycobalance) per meal, with breakfast and dinner at 9 AM and 9 PM alongside his insulin shots. As a snack, he gets about 25 g of Royal Canin Glycobalance dry food, and he also gets a few pieces of freeze-dried chicken or salmon as treats. Is the cat picky about food? I’ve found that Patchouli isn’t particularly too picky about food. He enjoys his current wet food (Royal Canin Glycobalance), as well as other diabetic-friendly brands like Tiki Cat and Wellness. What is the cat's favorite treat? Patchouli absolutely adores his freeze-dried salmon/chicken treats, as well as an occasional Churu as a “high-value” treat. Does the cat ever swat (claws in) at you? If so, under what circumstances? Never. Has the cat ever scratched (claws out) you? Never Does the cat ever nip (teeth without breaking skin) you? Patchouli is very food motivated and will sometimes nip your hand/arm when he is frustrated that he is not getting all the food/treat he is asking for. Sometimes, he gets very excited about the food that you are eating and might nip your hand to ask for the human food, which he is not allowed to have. He also may nip if he has been petted for a while and gets overstimulated. Has the cat ever bitten you (breaking skin)? Patchouli’s nips may range from very gently to harder nips, but he has never drawn blood. To the best of your knowledge, how does the cat react to new people? Social? Fearful? Patchouli is a very friendly and social cat and will happily interact with new people, beg for their attention, and rub against them to ask for pets. He will also give extra points to people who give him treats! All of my friends and family that has seen Patchouli adores him; he is very sociable cat! If you have observed the cat with other animals, please describe how they get on? I have not observed Patchouli with other animals, but in a previous home he did well with most other cats. Does that cat have any cute/quirky traits that aren’t covered by the previous questions? Patchouli is always eager to give affection. Whenever he sees a hand reaching toward him, calling him, he never fails to come over and rub against it. He’s also a very curious cat. He loves to follow you around the house and investigate whatever you’re doing. It’s the cutest thing when he tilts his head to the side and watches you closely, trying to figure out what you’re up to. Thanks to his curious nature, he picks up on associations pretty quickly, and learns that doing one thing will lead to another. He also adores brush time! When I hold up the brush, he meows and comes over, and rubs his head all over the brush. His tail vibrates when he is being brushed, which is super cute. Patchouli is also very intelligent, and he has learnt his name during the time he is staying with me. When he is not lazying around, he respond to being called "Patchouli!" and will come running over to rub his head on my hand. In your opinion, what is the best thing about the cat? Why should an adopter choose THIS cat to adopt? If you’re looking to adopt a mature, energetic, and affectionate gentle cat who loves to observe whatever you’re doing and is always eager to spend quality time with you, Patchouli is the perfect match! What are the cat's challenges and how have you found to best manage them? The only challenge Patchouli has is managing his diabetes. He currently receives 3 units of insulin twice a day, about 15 minutes after his meals at around 9 AM and 9 PM. Fortunately, giving him insulin is extremely easy, and he is also very understanding of blood glucose testing times. Patchouli is very cooperative with his shots and clearly understands they come after his mealtime. He stays completely still while I administer them and never protests or flinches.   To learn more about adopting this cat in Massachusetts, please visit www.blackcatrescue.com or fill out an Adoption Profile at https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston.  January 27, 2026, 11:27 am
